[ Han is still staring at the ‘screen’ of the locket like this is the most ridiculous piece of tech he has seen in his entire life. Still, his voice is confident, and beyond the general expression of disgusted disbelief, there are hints of worry in the way his lips thin. ]

So, apparently, there are no space-ready or functional craft, and even if there were, there is no telling where in the Galaxy we even are. [ Assuming, of course, they would be in the galaxy that Han knows. Which he is beginning to suspect is not the case. ]

So here’s a better question… What’s the best craft available for transport, and what… business is there, to be doing.

[ Chewie’s not here, the kid’s not here, Leia’s not here, his blaster doesn’t work. Hell, he’d even take old Kenobi or even Greedo over most of this crowd. Better the devil he knows.

And, all right, he kinda breaks at this and has to ask. ]

Also, honestly, how do so many of you folks not know that light has a speed, and space travel is not difficult. Really.

Light does travel. Which is, of course, how it has a speed. Technically, that speed is dependant on what it's travelling through, but we tend to use 'speed of light' as 'speed of light in a vacuum'. Which is 2.998 times 10 to the eighth power meters per second.

Interstellar travel is a foreign concept to the vast majority of the people you will meet here. Even basic flight is uncommon, and sailors insist that the world is flat.

Not everybody here is from the same place or time. So there are plenty who don't know about space travel. We've only been to the moon where I'm from.

There are horses and fairy rings to travel over land, and ships for sea travel. I would guess ships would work best for a transport business, but there'd be a lot of over land travel involved too. A lot of the cities here are inland.

Space travel is kinda necessary to get to places. Lots of products are a one-star-system-only kinda deal, and everyone else always wants a piece of the pie. So spacers like me either take them there, or make deliveries. Simple.

Some people can stick to one planet all their lives, but it seems dull to me. Nothing new or exciting.

No. I haven't run into a planet yet that wasn't roughly spherical in some way or another, 'least if it was life-sustaining and not half-blasted to smithereens. [ Kid? wow. At least you get the light part, which sort of makes up for it. ]

Light is made up of tiny little particles called photons, which are really really tiny packets of energy that create forces between other particles. So when we say "light" travels, what we are saying is that clumps of these 'photon' particles are moving together. For light to be visible, it has to be within a certain frequency, and thus travel with a certain wavelength. Also, it depends on what light is travelling through, of course, the same way you move faster through air than you do through water if you are using the same movements.

All of those methods don't work so well when you are trying to move fast, carry things, and don't want to switch vehicles because the terrain changes on you.

This place is miserable. How do people stand living like this?

I suppose I can't discount the idea that this is somewhere else in the galaxy, but that's just getting into all sorts of horrible ancient aliens nonsense that I'd rather not discuss.

Really, though, I think what we're looking at is parallel worlds and not some sort of space travel. That makes more sense given how much more... advanced some people here are than others.

Don't know about ancient aliens, buddy, but there are plenty enough modern ones wandering the galaxy today. Some of them ain't half bad, and a lot of them are dirty crooks, government included.

Parallel— You can't even access those dimention-levels of space without hyperdrive capabilities, and wherever we are is still at the draft animal and buggy stage of undevelopment. That's not even remotely possible. They would have the ability to transmute the nature of matter, much less compensate for the matter that remained unchanged.

True. Hyperdrive tech is a pain to make sure it's configuring properly, and it's pretty finicky stuff. You need a real handle on the fancy level of physics for that stuff to be working properly.
