01 | OPEN TO BOTH COURTS

[ Han is still staring at the ‘screen’ of the locket like this is the most ridiculous piece of tech he has seen in his entire life. Still, his voice is confident, and beyond the general expression of disgusted disbelief, there are hints of worry in the way his lips thin. ]

So, apparently, there are no space-ready or functional craft, and even if there were, there is no telling where in the Galaxy we even are. [ Assuming, of course, they would be in the galaxy that Han knows. Which he is beginning to suspect is not the case. ]

So here’s a better question… What’s the best craft available for transport, and what… business is there, to be doing.

[ Chewie’s not here, the kid’s not here, Leia’s not here, his blaster doesn’t work. Hell, he’d even take old Kenobi or even Greedo over most of this crowd. Better the devil he knows.

And, all right, he kinda breaks at this and has to ask. ]

Also, honestly, how do so many of you folks not know that light has a speed, and space travel is not difficult. Really.

[Yeah, Javik wasn't going to care if he was a smuggler or a legitimate businessman. Mostly because commerce was dead during his time, and seeing it in the new cycle just made him mad. Selling goods for profit when a war of extinction was on wasn't going to last long.]

You... delivered high level dignitaries?

[That was kind of what the Normandy had been doing, except not really.]

Well, just one princess in particular [ Her worshipfulness didn't even seem like a real princess to him much nowadays. He only used her title to irritate her. ]

It was more a favor for a friend, with some extenuating circumstances.

['Extenuating circumstances' sounded familiar. Nothing ever went the way it was planned, or the way it should go.]

I avoid politicians and their associates if it can be helped. It sounds as though your delivery did not go without trouble.

I do generally make a point to. It's bad for business.

[ Yeeeaaah governments were rarely great lovers of smuggling. ]

It was... I'm not entirely sure how those complications will work themselves out. [ Given that he was dragged here right after the biggest "OH SHIT" moment possible, really. ]

I was taken by the imps just before the closing of a... significant battle. [You know, the one that would decide the fate of the galaxy for the next forever.] That was nearly six months ago.

[Basically, Han wasn't get back to whatever he needed to finish any time soon. It was a fact that left a near permanent bitter taste in his mouth.]

So, the message is sit back and accept it, because I'm not heading back any time soon.

[ He shrugs, even if the thought of Leia and Chewie in Vader's clutches rolls his stomach. Lando— Lando better wish he was dead. ]

Fair enough. It'll sort out as it goes.

It is all we can do. I do not like it, but my opinion does not matter in the grand scheme of things. Neither does yours.

[He didn't know how things worked around here in terms of time, either. If things ran parallel, the war against the Reapers was done, and he could only wonder at the outcome. Had the Crucible worked, or were the Reapers finishing their harvest? Javik was used to everything being out of his control, though, so maybe he'd adjusted to this place faster than expected. After a moment's hesitation, he decided to introduce himself.]

[ Not that Han's opinion particularly mattered in light of all the Rebellion nonsense and the Imperial hell either. You just gotta wiggle around the system, is all. He'll sort things out and land on his feet. He always does. That infamous Solo Luck. ]

Han Solo. It was nice meeting someone who knows what's about.

[Han is rewarded with a smile, fleeting though it may be.]

The one with kidnapping imps. [ He always feels the need to clarify that, first. ] Unseelie, if I'm not mistaken.

Not that it'll matter much. [ Han doesn't plan on sticking around for very long. ]

[Javik was painfully familiar with kidnapping imps. What a blow to your ego, getting thrown in a sack by creatures that barely came up to your knees.]

You are not mistaken. I did not remain in court for very long, either.

[ Han thinks it's actually sort of funny, past the general irritation. Kidnapped by imps right after getting captured by "Imps" (Those damned Imperials). ]

You got yourself a business, then? [ Han's actually rather curious, on that score. ]

[He came pretty close to laughing at that - the thought of him being anything other than a soldier was just absurd.]

Of course not. I travel. I have been away from Caer Scima for more than five months.

You got some sort of revenue stream going, though? As much as I hate royal transporting, sometimes you gotta go where the funds are.

[ You need money to be truly independent, and Han has every intention of staying that way. Which is why he will be back in business as soon as he can get that way. ]

All I have ever known is being a soldier - there are no professions I find suitable. I require very little to survive here. Outside the court, I could hunt my own meals.

[Less chance of them being poisoned by the imps. He had one outfit, carried only what he and his horse could handle and lived simply. Javik would trade every imp in Caer Scima for even a scrape of working mass effect technology.]

Heh. Proud of your stripes. I can respect that.

[ He wasn't made for Imperial Fleet service. He knew that after Nyklas. Didn't make that court-martial any less unpleasant. ]

I'd still shop around, though. There might be some people in need of a soldier or two for a few things. And, trust me, there is something to be said for having a little money in your pocket when you need it.

Mercenary work, you mean.

[He didn't look disgusted by the idea, but it was more the fact that doing anything for profit still annoyed him. He'd grown up and lived in a galaxy where such markets had long since been destroyed by the Reapers.]

I have managed all these months without needing to be hired for anything, and I have traveled enough to know you will find work if you look for it.

Do whatever suits you, then.

[ Han could live off rustic necessity, but he prefers money in his pocket and a stable business up and running. Which he will be doing, shortly. He's already been scouting around for arrangements. ]

[With a war going on between two powerful courts and lots of people stuck in the middle, Han would probably have a booming business in no time.]

I would say the same to you. Whatever you choose to do, be mindful of the dangers here.

[ smuggling does tend to be profitable that way. now only if saber's deal for a ship comes through. but, before that, he still needs to hit some gaming tables. ]

I will be sure to keep that in mind. [ Rampant awful native wildlife. Gotcha. ] Anything in particular I should be concerned over?

[The locket shifted somewhat as he shrugged.]

The forest outside the curtain wall will try to kill you. Many other things will as well, and you learn what they are when they come for you. I do not think even the natives could warn you of everything.

[So it was probably not that much different from where either of them were from, just confined to one terrible (flat) planet.]

[ Han's gonna swear in a conglomeration of languages, but not particularly heatedly. ]

So, someone in the universe hates us, then.

[ Situation Normal, indeed. Why couldn't he been dragged to a nice planet. Like Naboo or something. Or one of those resort worlds. ]

Sounds about standard.

If you have traveled the stars as I have, then I believe you will be prepared for most of what this world has to offer.

[Except the whole magic thing. It was just really backwards science, right? Right.]

That's hardly reassuring.

[ But Javik, at least, completely understands what he means by that. The galaxy, any galaxy, is filled with wonderful (awful, just plain awful) quirks (pains in the ass) all around. ]
