[Not a video, just audio. It’s clear, however, that the person on the other end is inspecting the locket]

--hmph, thought as much. "Say a phrase and the magic will work", hm? Ridiculous. Who ever heard of speaking over distances with a locket.. Not even Legolas with all his fanciful Elven stories would have come up with something so foolish.

[More tapping and poking can be heard]

There’s nothing special about this at all. No gems, not even made of precious metals...and those creatures expect me to believe their stories? [A snort] I’d sooner believe there’s a man in Rohan afraid of horses! [He pauses, and then scoffs] Bah, listen to me, talking to myself. Legolas must be rubbing off on me more than I thought!

[Click goes the locket.]

A pleasure! Have you spoken to Legolas yet? Do you need some help coming to find him -- that's what you'd like, right?

I've spoken with him, aye. He's to meet me in this castle when he can and then we will leave together.

Oh, good. Maybe I'll have a word with him, I could apparate you both easily enough, it would only take a few minutes...

[ She's mumbling to herself, mostly, for a moment or two, but then she refocuses. ]

Right, um. Sorry. Do you have any questions? Anything I can help with?

How do you know Legolas?

I think I met him when his father was here -- it was a while ago now, really. He's been really good to me when he didn't have to be.

[ A pause and, now, she sounds a little shy and sheepish. ]

He's a little like the big brother I never had.

Aye, he'll do that, be ridiculously kind to anyone who hasn't angered him.

That sounds about right. I don't think I've ever seen him really mad.

[ She pauses, dazzled, before she hums. ]

Yes, Thranduil. He was here for a little while a few months ago.

Hmm, well, that's one stroke of luck. The Elvenking has little love for Dwarves, and me in particular.

Really? I can't imagine that - he was so lovely to me. Maybe if he comes back you'll have a chance to fix things?

Ah, I doubt it. Most Elves do not like Dwarves. Legolas is an odd one, befriending me as he has.

[ She pauses. That's -- well. She's no stranger to racism, both to others and, in a way, against her own blood. ]

I'm glad Legolas is different, then.

As am I. Tell me, Miss Hermione, do you travel with Legolas?

Yes, I do! Someone has to be there to make sure he doesn't go crazy, after all.

[Gimli laughs at that]

Aye, and I'm sorry I was not here to do it! You have my thanks for that.

[ She bites back her laugh, biting her lip. ]

Do you braid his hair as well, Mr. Gimli?

Oh, no, no. It wouldn't hold a braid even if I tried! Far too fine.

I had wondered. [ She can't help herself; her voice goes a little teasing, now. ] Maybe I ought to magic him some ribbons.

[Gimli laughs again]

I would pay gold to see that! Legolas of the Woodland Realm with ribbons in his hair like a young maid!

I don't think I could get away with it, not really. But it's nice to imagine, for a little while, prince or not.

You might! I would say to try when he is sleeping but alas, Elves do not sleep.

Maybe I'll do it when we're resting at the end of the day. I'll use my wand to 'accidentally' transfigure some into his hair.
