[Stiles hasn't used the lockets until today, a day spent flicking mostly through the posts and seeing how to actually work this thing and, oh, okay. Like that. It was like a weird magical phone set to Skype. Okay. He could do that.

Hey there, uh, fairy people. And non-fairy people. And, uh, the draconically inclined. Or furry. I don't... just... hi. So, in light of the whole worm thing, which by the way, eww, I have a question. Since there seem to be a lot of, um, not exactly human people around and ones who have skills with like, swords and magic and stuff, ah, what... hypothetically speaking, would someone who was just a regular, normal, average human be able to do here? You know, besides hiding under tables and throwing rocks ineffectively?

[This was a very important question, Drabwurld. He wasn't a werewolf or a wizard or witch or... any of the multitude of people here that he'd run into. His coordination was subpar and, well, he didn't really have any skills that included cutting the heads off of giant worms or not getting eaten by dragons if they felt the need.]

Look, um, girl person, I'm just saying that it's not a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket, right? Like, maybe the library has something about them? Maybe it doesn't. Maybe I read a book and have to go running out to tell them about it because no one's taking the time to look at their magical locket. Then I die.

Hey, it's not like I'm made for battles either. They sort of screwed the pooch if they decided to pick people for warfare or killing things when they picked me. I'm more of a... watch other people do things and cheer them on type.

Me, too. Except I fear even that is disarmingly new to me.

The latter. Even when I try, it seems I cannot do it well.

Maybe you just haven't watched something you've enjoyed enough. Kind of hard to cheer if you don't care about it, right?

But I do care, of course. About what's happening outside these walls. Everything with the worms...

Some people just aren't the type to cheer on some gross worm thing getting chopped to pieces and roasted. I'm guessing you're one of those types. Which, you know, isn't a bad thing. You just need to find something you like to, ah, cheer on.

...Like a joust, perhaps?

[ sansa hasn't felt comfortable with jousting in a long while. but maybe alayne would, she wondered. ]

Um, yeah. Yeah, I guess like a joust. Or something that's supposed to be fun and not like, life-threatening.

she frowns. not life-threatening? there weren't many events or pastimes that didn't include some risk. except maybe -- ] Hawking!

Hawking? Um, sure. Sure, I guess... I don't know. I've never actually seen it. I'm thinking more along the lines of like, baseball or basketball or lacrosse or something. A sport that's non-lethal. Mostly.

Beg pardon, but I don't...I don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah, I'm not surprised.

[Gee, that didn't sound rude.]

Um, I mean, that you don't know what they are. I've been running into a bunch of people from way different worlds and I'm guessing things like hockey and golf haven't really been invented in too many of them. But, if you're from a place that has jousting and hawking, I'm betting most of your sports are probably a bit more death-causing.

[ most, certainly. sansa can recall having watched a man bleed out only a handful of feet from her place in the stands. splintered lance to the throat. ]

Tell me about them, then. Hockey. And golf.

Uh, well, hockey's played on an ice rink. People wear skates and there's two teams. Each player has a stick that's, uh, curved at the bottom and they use it to hit a puck around. A puck's this little black flat disc that they have to volley and try to get in a net that belongs to the opposite team. There's one per team on opposite sides of the rink and you have a goalie that stands in front of the net and tries to stop it.

Team the scores the most wins. Golf is... boring. Most sports are pretty much two teams trying to get the best of the other. There's usually balls involved and nets or stuff. Except for baseball, which is totally different and I think might confuse you.

Um, yeah? Hockey is, yeah. With skates.

What? Like the fish?

[ she never liked skates much, when they were on the table. ]

Like the-- No, not like the fish. Really? Like the fish? No. They're shoes with metal blades on them and you skate around the ice on them. Ice skates.

I know ice. [ how could she not? ] But I've never seen anyone...skating on it.

[teenyoda]

No? Well... it can be a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's great. And when you have ten people zooming around bashing into each other, it's even better.
