[the new face that appears over the lockets is strikingly pretty, with a sweet smile and all pale gold coloring that's probably reminiscent of some fairy tales. it's certainly pretty enough to be female, but the timbre of his voice is just such that it might call that into question for anyone actually paying attention.]
The rulers here are rather generous, aren't they? I can't claim to be alright with what basically comes down to kidnapping, but they certainly know how to soften the blow.
[there's a likable good-humor in his voice at that, and he spins the locket idly to show off his current living situation -- a king's suite.]
Are all quarters here really so nice? It's hard to believe enough wealth could exist anywhere, even in a place like this.
[he knows, of course, through a bit of magic-locket-network stalking and some eavesdropping, how the rooming situations here work. but it's an easy way to establish his station without having to give up that affable air he likes to affect, and a decent way to lure out anyone eager to explain things to a poor, confused newcomer. those are the sort of people he likes, after all, and some of the most useful.]
But then, who knows what the magic here is capable of? New worlds are sure to come with all new rules of their own, and I have to admit, I don't know exactly how this one works. [yet.] There are people who have been here for some time now, correct? I'd be extremely grateful if anyone who's had the time to learn such things could help me to better understand just what sort of place we're in.

[Vanyel hasn't been in the kingdom for long, but he does have experience with magic and magical beings.]

[it isn't a question. he doesn't necessarily agree with the sentiment, though -- if he's to be stuck here, then he's going to need to secure himself some level of power. otherwise, he's weak. vulnerable. and unfortunately, the people here most capable of imparting that are the locals. at the very least, he's going to need to get acquainted with the monarchs.]
[The more voices - the better chance of being heard.]
[ha.]
At the very least, they're very accommodating for kidnappers. Private, luxurious rooms on top of a feast? This room is nicer than my own back home, and that's certainly saying something.
[He isn't going to judge! Persuasive speech is always welcome.]
I suppose you haven't been informed of the battles. [Luxurious rooms don't really make up for risking lives.] Which Court have you been introduced to?
Is it wise to announce such things so freely? I mean...I did hear that this was a world at war. I'm not sure what the general etiquette is here for relationships between the courts, and I wouldn't want to step on any toes or endanger anyone by mistake.

he affects an expression of mild surprise, and then frowns pensively.]
That seems a little classist, doesn't it?

You're all the same.
[He speaks with a harsh edge.]
[Video] damn you i'm supposed to be away at a con but now i'm curious
Excuse me?
[Video] :D
[Yes he is judging you by appearance and a Lighteyes is never good news.]

[As much as he already hated you for how you look, he would grudgingly protect you if you needed protecting.]
Don't cause me any headaches.

I hadn't planned on it. But I do have to wonder why you think I would -- besides, apparently, the color of my eyes.

What do you wanna know?
[Heck yeah he'll cut straight to the point.]
[and there's a hungry look in his eyes that really doesn't make that sound like a joke. but then he smiles, and that look is so far buried it's easy to have missed it in the first place.]
I wouldn't ask that much of you, though. For now, I'd be happy learning more about what's possible in this world. Do you have any idea what the limits to their magic are? Or that of anyone else? I can't imagine that with all the people here, none of them came with magic of their own.
I'm not an expert on this world's magic by a long shot, but it seems geared toward the natural and elemental aspects. Probably some illusion. I don't know what the limits are, since I'm not a magic-user. I've heard of people using magic with differing rules, but those rules seem as different as the individual.
[Magic is really not Nico's strong suit. Unless it's the card game.]
So those people with magic from their own worlds aren't forced to follow the rules of whatever governs this world's magic? Basically, anything is possible if the right sort of people are brought in.
[and his own abilities should still work just fine. that's nice to know.]
Exactly right. If you request magic as a boon from the Monarchs, then it'll most likely be following the rules this world has about it. I've heard they can suppress powers, though. Most likely to prevent anyone from leaving this world and going back to theirs. And possibly preventing powers or technology that might completely destroy this world.
