Obviously this place is like Ares's wet dream with all the war biz going on, but that's not my jam. Love would be the name of my game. Problem is, I don't have anywhere for mortals to leave messages for me when I'm busy and I am so not answering calls for help on this locket indefinitely because, uh, I have a life, so here's the deal; build me a temple near the edge of Dorchadas and I'll give you a freebie. That babe you've had your eye on? I'll make them fall in love with you! Are you ugly as a toad? I'll give you a permanent make-over! This is a one-time thing because I'm feeling generous ... and clearly don't have any offerings coming in, ugh. Speaking of, if you want to leave cute shoes as a gift, I'm a size six.

Um. Thank…you? [HOW DO YOU RESPOND TO THAT? He shakes his head quickly to disregard the comment, ignoring it and focusing on the fact at hand. There's a comment of "unless the cow becomes leather shorts" on the tip of his tongue, but he keeps it to himself. Nobody should be allowed in leather shorts. Ever.]

So it's kinda just like improvising a little bit. [It makes sense. Loki's been improvising since they arrived, so it would make sense other gods do, too.] What if somebody wanted something else in exchange? I don't want a make-over and I don't need anybody to fall in love with me. [He's got all of that covered. …and belatedly, he seems to realize it's probably not a good idea to really push a goddess's buttons. He's heard stories.] But I guess there are a few places we could set things up. If I did want something in exchange…what else could you do?

[ Excuse you, Hiro, that one time she tried to be Hercules she rocked the leather shorts!! And they chafed, maybe, but that's neither here nor there. ]

Hmm. You're a real little businessman, aren't you? I guess if you don't want anyone to love you and you're already a cute little bean, I could change something else you have into something you want. Trees into higher fences? Iron from the mountains into weapons? Not my usual work but it's not impossible.

[ Eh, it can be done, her attention is the thing that seems hard to keep when the subject veers away from the heart. Aphrodite could do a lot more good/be more useful than she cares to think about at length. ]

Are you sure you don't want some adorable girls and boys smooching your little rosy cheeks day and night? You could have a cuddlefest whenever you wanted!

[He doesn't verbally respond to that at first, but the smug grin should say enough. Yes, he's getting better at negotiations (or so he likes to think.) There's a slight falter to his expression though, quickly waving it off as she continues. In truth, more than anything Hiro has a tendency to just wants things and he usually stops at nothing to get them. Lately though, those things have been much, much harder to obtain. As it seems, he's put the matters of the heart on the backburner because even he's not reckless enough to let the goddess of love meddle…despite being curious if she could, possibly, change things.

He's not going to toy with that option just yet though. That's a last resort.]

I'm not really a cuddly person. [That smirk is back even though there's a slight tinge of embarrassment in his tone.] How do you feel about distributing "I owe you"s? I build you a temple for offerings in exchange for something later.

You're not gonna trick me with this, are you, kiddo? Having a Goddess in your pocket sounds awfully convenient, to me.

[ SquinTING LOUDLY. Her smile remains, amused despite eyeing him suspiciously. ]

[Eheheh. Well he's certainly familiar with that look…from…multiple people. But come on. He's pretty sure in a battle of wits and skill Aphrodite would win anyway so though she's suspicious he's continuing on like he isn't suddenly a little nervous.]

Is it really having a goddess in my pocket if it's just for one exchange?

[The way he sees it is like this. If Aphrodite's more likely to work with him and he can win her favor by being cute and crafty then that's how he'll do it. He can tolerate the terms of endearment and everything just for that.]

[ Nodding, she sinks back into a plush velvet chair. ]

So, kid! You've done what nobody else around here is smart enough to manage, you have my full attention. What can I help you with today? Need to unload?

[There seems to be some sort of delight in his features at the idea of actually doing something of the sort (though he's not entirely sure he wants it.) However, there are plenty of things that could be said and that he could ask her. So he pauses for a moment, tilting his head in thought before he's reaching forward for his locket and fiddling with it to lock the conversation into a private feed.]

I don't know about that, but maybe you can answer some things for me. [And he leans back, seated at his desk in Caer Scima. She can probably see that he's surrounded by piles of books and various gadgets but instead of focusing on those he's paying attention to the locket. Likewise, it's usually hard to gain his full attention, too.]

You're the Goddess of Love, right? Does that mean you can really override people's feelings? [People are not machines, he knows that. Truthfully he's thinking more in terms of positive and negative, not necessarily affectionate feelings. Not yet, anyway.]

Yeah, defo. I can make people fall in love with goats if I want, it's always hilarious when that happens.

[ Tilting her head, she fluffs the back of her hair as she gives him a shrewd look. ]

Although, if they were really against it? I guess they could override it. That almost never happens, head's up.

[...a very thoughtful pause.] I might take you up on that if I need some sort of revenge. [But that's not the point here. He frowns a bit, tinkering with some sort of screwdriver on his desk as he thinks on that.]

How exactly do your powers work anyway? You have to be near people to actually have an effect on them, right? [He pokes the locket, letting the picture spin a bit.] Like talking to somebody through these wouldn't do anything. And it's not a physical power so...[Please explain.]

[ Laughing at the revenge talk, she goes on. ]

Usually go with the zapping to kick things off, yeah, but if I make something like a Potion of Infatuation then it'll work whether I'm there or not.

[Hey, it's entirely possible he might have a few friends who need to lighten up okay. There's a hum of thought, carefully filing away that information. If she can make a Potion of Infatuation...what else can be made?]

Zapping. Right. [He's not gonna ask.] ...if you can make people fall in love, can you make them fall out of love, too?

Yeah, I guess so, but why would I want to do that?

[ Sighing, she chins a hand and leans forward. ]

What're you digging for really, Hiro, or are you just being a nosy little worm on purpose?

Just...curious? [Well, considering the fact that she's already busted him...] I guess I just want to understand better. Is that a bad thing? [After all, there's a difference between reading about these things and asking questions of them. It's a comparison of the figures from mythology and determining how the legends have changed. It's kind of the same reason he asks questions from Loki. He understands how Leo and Nico's powers work, too. Wouldn't it make sense to get a better read on her? He's just...hoping she won't be mad about that.]

My sister would have said something pretentious like 'all knowledge is good', but I'm just wondering if you're going to go babbling about me to anyone else or documenting this stuff.

I'm not saying you can't, it'd just be nice to be in the loop if you are.

[Well, someone did once tell him that he'd make Athena proud. But that's not the point. Instead he just fixes her with a perplexed look suddenly.]

You seriously wouldn't care? Even if people knew how you could manipulate them? [He's not going to share. Not really, though he's definitely compiling mental notes for his own reference. He's still not entirely sure how he feels about the fact that she can basically manipulate people into whatever see personally sees fit, but with more questions maybe he'll be able to form a real opinion. It's a curious reaction nonetheless and the questions aren't asked out of malice, simply intrigue.]

Then I guess they'd be angry, but that's their problem and not mine. Don't care so much about what people think about you, Hiro, just be a good person and then the only one you ever need to really answer to is yourself. Loving yourself is all that really matters, otherwise ... how are we supposed to go on living?

Besides, I've had hate mail before. They smashed my temples a few times. You get used to it.

[…eh. What's "a good person" anyway? But it's something to consider and surprisingly, though a little vain, that's not entirely unsound advice. On the other hand though, not thinking about what people think of him has led to some tangled webs.

I think I get it. [A pause.] You're not the first god they've brought here. Not all of them have temples or shrines…but I guess a small one wouldn't hurt? That still counts, doesn't it? [If Ariadne's taking care of something at Diasbaile, he can probably do something very, very small somewhere close to the castle.] Small shrine for a small favor though. Okay?

[Well now he has to build something impressive. He rubs the back of his neck, a sheepish grin following.]

A raincheck. [He has ideas of what he wants...but he needs to look into some things first. Research, too.] When I settle on one thing, I'd like to ask for it without questioning.

Nope, can't do it. You gotta tell me, I'm nosy. [ #MOM MODE ] But if you can promise me it doesn't involve hurting anyone else or yourself, I'll keep it a secret.

[A beat.] But I don't plan on killing anybody with my bare hands or anything if that's what you're worried about.

I keep promises when they're close to peoples hearts, little detective. And you could kill plenty of people without using your bare hands, so don't pull that one on me. I raised Cupid, I know that look.

[Mmmmh. He narrows his eyes slightly, fingers of his free hand drumming on the top of his desk for a moment.]

...you give me an answer to one question I want an honest answer on, and I'll build you a small shrine. Better?
