video - unseelie locked;
[ Alice has been trying to draw in her sketchpad for a while now and it's clear from how wrinkled the piece of paper is, that she's tried to draw on it to no avail. It's been erased numerous times. Right beside her are her imp and her rabbit, as always. She's been quiet at the villa, she's locked herself up acting stranger than before. ]
How funny it is when the mind brings so many images and memories that it cannot even transfer onto a sheet of paper. I know what I see, but it cannot go through my fingertips and onto my paper, unlike so many times before.
[ By the tone of her voice, she means more than that. Guarded as ever, Alice will not say what it is, other than she reluctantly places her pencil down on the paper. Art blocks are terrible, and they're more terrible than before. ]
I am sorry... for my absence. Please don't think of me as silly, but I lost a good companion of my mine. My mare. My horse. I took her in after my first battle, when her owner had fallen. I loved her dearly, she was my friend, too, as much as anyone else I know here.
[ Alice says this while trying not to cry. ]
I loathe to think of another animal as a replacement, but seeing as it is a necessity, I have no other choice. She had fallen in battle when I separated from the others.
[ When she went on her rampage after the Jabberwock, though she's not going to say that. Alice just rubs her rabbit's ears instead while looking at her blank paper. ]
I can try and buy one, if needed, if anyone wants to humor me. I know this is a silly request after everything that has happened -- selfish, even. I think it might be best if I left, for a small while, so I can clear my head and be useful again. No good comes of being a shut-in.
[ After all, ever since she came back, she's been acting stranger and much more distant than before. There is more here that she wants to say; she struggles with saying it. ]
I, well- never mind that. Please be well, all of you.

As for talent, you're why I'm still kicking. I don't think we're really doing ranking right now. [He doesn't say "I'm grateful for that," but he is talking to her at all.]

When she scolded Lancelot those months ago, she told him the same thing, when he aided her in a battle just like this one. Alice can only scoff at herself. ] No, rank wouldn't have anything to do with it, you're right.
[ It's just too damn hard to think that anything she could do could have been right. ] Or the vorpal blade for that matter.
[ Alice manages a smile, at least. ] I'm glad, even if you're stranger and I would do it again. I am also glad that you didn't receive any other injuries -- you look healthy. I can allow myself to take some pride in that.

[The words come easily after her silent confirmation. Jason won't needle her about it unless she seems like she's determined to wallow. He's had to slap some sense into Batman a few times. No one would ever believe it, he knows, but he's not against trying it here.
Only there would be less literal "slapping."]
But I'd probably be a nearly headless literary figure of your choice. The cautionary tale for everyone if I hadn't gotten back up when I did. [After all, he'd be both a literary figure and a rather pathetic one. He'll buy that.] And I look too good to lose my head. [He adds that with a huff of a laugh, making it clear that he's laughing at his own joke.]
All that aside, if you're going to take some time to pull yourself together, is it gonna be somewhere safe?

[ She feels a little self-conscious for repeating herself, but.
That does make her feel better -- he's a stranger, sure, but to hear that he feels great is enough to make her brighten. With so many terrible things, Alice will latch onto some good news. She manages a smile at that joke, as morbid as it is. ]
Perhaps, perhaps not. It's a little hard to see anyone fit that role outside of the Green Knight, you know. So please, yes, don't lose your head any time soon.
[ Alice isn't very good at joking and naturally being surrounded by knights and royalty, the Green Knight came to her mind. But she brightens even more, nodding- ]
I'm going to make it a point not to go alone, so yes, I'll be going to be somewhere safe.

He'd rather that not happen.]
If you find yourself in trouble, drop me a line.

I'll be fine. But then what about you, sir?
no subject
But it's an offer.
no subject
Normally I would be inclined to decline an offer, but- I'll remember it with you, Mr. Jason. So thank you.
[ He's an impressive fighter and if someone is able to fend for themselves, they're a little more trustworthy. ]
no subject
[In terms of his offer being taken, at least. He considers adding something like "I'll make sure you don't have to save my ass next time," but he suspects that it's a given.]
no subject
[ That could have been followed with a flail. ]
I'm sure they will eventually. I'm just fortunate enough to keep running into those who are skilled fighters.

Truthfully? Yes. In some ways.
[ Though, ultimately, Alice thinks she's unworthy of praise. ]
no subject
It shouldn't. You need that here to survive.
no subject
No, you're right, Mr. Jason. But if anything, I should thank you as well. A little honesty does us good every so often.

[To be caught in a lie among comrades is just asking for trouble. He's done it before, but there was no true loyalty there. He knows how long he can carry these things through, and he sees no point in doing that among the Unseelie.
Jason can't exactly explain why he feels a sense of loyalty to the Unseelie. Perhaps it's because he sees that they've all been handed the same plate full of shit.]
no subject
[ She does notice a little feeling of comradery, though, that's with all of the Unseelie right now and for good reason. Yet Alice is still pessimistic, because she likes to think realistically, she would say. ]
At any given time.
[ Arguably, her, because of her relentless pursuit of the Jabberwock. ]
And speaking of like-minded people, what will you do? There's been plenty of battles and conflicts before, months ago, but none of this level. It's a little unfair to see so many newcomers pulled in at the worst time.
no subject
[The answer comes swift and easily. Jason will not let failure happen. He can't.]
no subject
[ She can respect that, she even smiles a little at that. That's something she feels and respects. ]
no subject
We all are, huh? [A really twisted kind of hero.]
