video; both courts

Are the women in this world and your own given as much opportunity to defend themselves as the men?

[ she doesn't wait for any answers, giving a humorless snort of laughter at the locket before continuing. it's not a directly related addition to her question, but it's certainly on the same train of thought: ]

Ridiculous that those already holding power are given the privilege of training to the highest levels of their skills, but those most in need of it are left to rely on the protection of others.

I do. Not just for people without magical power, but - what I mentioned before? People who are seen as less because of their blood or their race.

[ She frowns a little more, nose wrinkling. ]

Werewolves, House Elves, Goblins, all of them. And people that are born to parents that don't have magic. Everyone deserves equal rights and the chance to prove themselves.

Because it's the right thing to do. Different blood, by birth or by accident, doesn't change anything. You're still a person and you deserve every single chance to prove yourself, just as much as anyone else. Being born 'pure' is a pathetic excuse to look down on people and make yourself appear better.

[ ... She huffs, arms crossed. ]

I know what it's like. I've experienced it.

Exactly.

[ She shakes her head, though. ]

I'm muggleborn. It means my parents don't have magic, but I do, and there are a lot of people in the magical world that think my blood is dirty because of that. There are a group of purebloods - people that can trace their magical ancestry back generations - that think I taint magic, or stole it somehow, just because of how I was born.

[ Her lips turn down and she frowns, looking away. She knows it might not seem like a big deal to people outside of her world but it had influenced her so terribly. ]

I'm not a vampire or a werewolf, but there are some things I can empathise with.

I know. And that's why I proved myself.

[ She isn't cocky or arrogant - a lot of the time she knows her friends think she is being ridiculously modest - but she knows she's worked hard, she's proven herself and she has risen above everyone's expectations. ]

That's why I'm doing what I can to help fight for them. I'm just one person but sometimes that's all you need - and it's the same for gender, too. Maybe it'll take time but women have fought for decades to share the same power as men, especially in the muggle world.

Of course it is. I think the struggle starts because people don't realise they can have a voice. People don't try to fight. And that's wrong.

[ She had seen it in the house elves, not having a voice until Dobby spoke to her. It's the same for the treatment of Werewolves and Vampires -- and Muggleborn, too. They all deserved a voice. ]

The first step is always the hardest.

... Exactly. Realising that you're allowed to speak up, to defend yourself, is the first step. It's not the easiest, though, especially when the people around you that are like you are content to stay quiet.

[ She isn't thinking of herself, now, but the House Elves; the creatures that, in her eyes, at least, are demonised, treated as slaves, servants, with nothing in return but beatings and ill-given gratitude. Seeing Dobby make the first step to showing that they could have a better life was incredible, even if thinking about him made a place deep in her heart ache.

She sighs, crossing her arms and trying to look less frustrated; the entire situation is wrong, given the fact that people end up hurt or suffering for it, and there's not much she can do. Even at home she wasn't entirely successful, for all her attempts. ]

That's why I hope there are more people that can take the first step, or say the first word. It's difficult but... It's amazing to see once it happens.

Hermione Granger.

[ She smiles softly, nodding her head; she's open, welcoming, as she always tries to be. ]
