Axe 01 - Audio - Open to Both Courts - Forward-dated to October 2nd

[Not a video, just audio. It’s clear, however, that the person on the other end is inspecting the locket]

--hmph, thought as much. "Say a phrase and the magic will work", hm? Ridiculous. Who ever heard of speaking over distances with a locket.. Not even Legolas with all his fanciful Elven stories would have come up with something so foolish.

[More tapping and poking can be heard]

There’s nothing special about this at all. No gems, not even made of precious metals...and those creatures expect me to believe their stories? [A snort] I’d sooner believe there’s a man in Rohan afraid of horses! [He pauses, and then scoffs] Bah, listen to me, talking to myself. Legolas must be rubbing off on me more than I thought!

[Click goes the locket.]

Sadly my knowledge of magic doesn't run very deep, but I am curious as well. Perhaps some things are better left as mysteries and this sort of magic seems harmless enough for now.

For now. A friend of mine went through great trouble over a seemingly harmless magical object. Forgive me if I am wary.

There is a lot to be wary of here beyond just magical lockets. I thought I experienced the worst creatures during my journey back home, but here... [He clears his throat.] Being such a small creature in a large world it would be very foolish of me not to share your caution.

Ah, I am a Dwarf. We are mistrustful of everything--though it is somewhat comforting to know that this time, it is warranted.

A dwarf? So I am not mistaken in assuming you are from Middle Earth as well?

No, you are not. Gimli, son of Glóin, at your service.

... [Wait.]

... Gloin? He- Your father? [He remembers Gloin talking about his 'wee son Gimli' and so he always assumed he would sound...

Younger.]

[Gruffly]

I just said that, didn't I? How do you know my father?

[He blinks, still a little stunned.]

Ah... We traveled- together with a number of others, your uncle as well. A few of them are here as well.

My name is Bilbo Baggins. I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier.

[He coughs]

Bilbo Baggins?! Of all the people I have heard were here, you were not one of them.

[...he sounds a lot younger than he should]

Well.

[... Oh now that's weird.]

You know me then. Or know of me. [Just like King Thranduil did and Legolas and Lady Galadriel and now it's starting to become unnerving.]

It would seem there is more than just locket magic at work here.

We met once, four years ago by my count. I suspect it is much farther in the future for you, however.

I can't even begin to imagine the circumstances which we met under, but I hope they were pleasant. [Or will be. It's a bit hard to imagine the future considering what exactly he left behind before coming here.]

[...TIME TO LIE]

Pleasant enough. We were in Rivendell.

[Good idea.]

Rivendell! Oh how I'd like to return there again. Lord Elrond was so kind despite the trouble we put him through. [Small laugh.] Never mind what Thorin may say Lord Elrond was a wonderful host.

I certainly have no complaints about his hospitality, regardless of what my father and cousins may or may not have done on their quest.

[Bilbo smiles broadens even if Gimli can't see it.] You are certainly a breath of fresh air, Master Gimli.

[He pauses, hesitating briefly before reconsidering whatever it was he wanted to ask.]

Well I am happy things are well with you, present circumstances excluded of course. Your father spoke very highly of you, quite frequently too.

[He groans softly]

I apologize for him.

[He laughs out loudly before covering his mouth out of manners.]

There's no need! I found it very sweet and charming and I enjoyed the stories he told although I'm not sure you would appreciate them being told.
