Axe 01 - Audio - Open to Both Courts - Forward-dated to October 2nd

[Not a video, just audio. It’s clear, however, that the person on the other end is inspecting the locket]

--hmph, thought as much. "Say a phrase and the magic will work", hm? Ridiculous. Who ever heard of speaking over distances with a locket.. Not even Legolas with all his fanciful Elven stories would have come up with something so foolish.

[More tapping and poking can be heard]

There’s nothing special about this at all. No gems, not even made of precious metals...and those creatures expect me to believe their stories? [A snort] I’d sooner believe there’s a man in Rohan afraid of horses! [He pauses, and then scoffs] Bah, listen to me, talking to myself. Legolas must be rubbing off on me more than I thought!

[Click goes the locket.]

Seems if I'm to believe the stories, I ought to believe the storytellers.

You'd be a fool to believe anything you can't confirm yourself. You can at least check the lockets on your own.

They also work better open. At least then you may see who you are dealing with.

Hm, that's the first logical thing I've heard all day.

[And then he opens the locket, squinting and frowning at it]

[And he may or may not be looking at a four-armed warrior princess in full armor, polishing the two-headed warhammer she prizes so dearly. Even if it can't blow a hole right through the castle anymore.

Unlike him, she's not holding her locket, but has it resting on a table across the study that she's slowly converting into an armory. She's resting too, even if the bench she's traded for the previous furniture in the room hardly seems luxurious.]

Much better. I prefer to see who I am addressing. Anyone who hides their face over these devices is usually hiding something else.

[Not that it's been confirmed in more than once scenario, but there's definitely an inherent distrust for anyone choosing to hide their face over these things.]

[...what the hell. His instinct is "monster"...and really that warhammer isn't doing much to quell that instinct. Still, he'll play nice for now.]

Or they simply do not understand how it works. The creatures were very vague, after all.

[Probably best he did, she's been spoiling for a fight for about two months now.]

You didn't, and you weren't. You are one of the first I have seen not know how to operate the locket, and even you made it clear that was the case.

[Yep, still only half paying attention over here. Though she had at least briefly studied the image on the other end of the locket. Seemed human...ish, at least. Not like he had pointy ears or green skin or whatever was going on with that irritable alien when she'd first arrived. Nothing impressive...yet. But she'd learned to be on the lookout for small surprises.]

Bah, the thing gave me no sign that the command had worked! It just sat there, being a locket.

[There's a bit of curtness there, but she really can't help herself. On the plus side, if there were any real anger toward her conversation companion, he would certainly know. Everyone would know.]

You were, and still are, not pretending you didn't know how to use it.

I make a point to lie no more than I must. Nothing good would come from it.

Then we are in agreement. My word is one that may be trusted, regardless of any other details. Even my enemies know I speak honestly.

[Which was true enough. Whether or not anything she believed could be fact was a different matter, but she was not one to avoid speaking her mind or lying to get her way. She much preferred it if people knew exactly where she stood, even enemies.]

Not that any of them are here at the moment. Though I have plenty from someone else's war to contend with. Should we ever get around to fighting it.

From what I have heard, there have been. And as it was not from our royal benefactors, I see no reason to doubt the information.

[The royals, she would be skeptical about. The other "guests," not so much. They had all been recruited as she had, and lying about a battle would have been a grave mistake. If it was true, that winning would send the victors home, someone would have talked.]

But in my time here, I have yet to see a single battle. I have to be the single unluckiest Tetramand in this or any galaxy!

[SHE WAS BORN TO PUNCH THINGS, WHY CAN'T SHE PUNCH THINGS]

...Tetramand? Galaxy?

[Wut. He feels like the young Hobbits, asking what she means but...well.

[Oh what has she gotten herself into...]

Tetramands. My people. We are difficult to miss, especially in battle. We are hardy and capable warriors, and I am the most powerful in my father's army. We hail from the planet Khoros, which I assume you also haven't heard of.

[She'll leave the galaxy part alone, for now. And hope he was simply asking for clarification as to where they were from.

Otherwise this conversation was very likely to turn tiresome, because she was hardly the most qualified person to give explanations on what the universe was. Let alone anything in it.]

I am afraid I have never heard of either Tetramands or...."Khoros". We do not have either in Middle-earth.

[What's a planet?]

Middle-Earth? I only know of one Earth, and- nevermind, it is not important! For the time being, we are all stuck here. It does not matter where any of us are from if we cannot return there!

[She's finished with her hammer now, and leaves it on the bench as she gets up to make her way over to her locket. And, judging from how she towers over much of the room, she is certainly a big one.]

Tell me then, stranger. Which court has sought your aid? And more importantly, can you fight? Will you fight? If it is true that winning this war is the only way to return home, I need to know who may be relied upon, and who will cower at the first sign of battle.

The Seelie Court have sent for me, and of course I can fight! What Dwarf can't?

How should I know, you're the first "dwarf" I've encountered!

[Though she actually kind of does keep a running list in her head of which races can and can't put up a good fight. Humans are actually somewhere near the bottom, but she's met a few here that seem to be exceptions to the rule.]

It is fortunate then that I am also among the Seelie forces. At least now I may have one more I can actually rely on.

Of course, should you wish to prove how well you can fight, I am open to making arrangements.

[...non-lethal ones, of course. Not that it'd be immediately clear from that vaguely predatory smile she's flashing over the locket.]

Unfortunately for you I am not one who enjoys sparring! Too many good fighters are lost in sparring accidents. I would rather train on my own and be fighting fit for any battles.

Such a pity. Then I suppose I'll just have to find you once a battle breaks out.

[Granted, how long she'd be able to watch just to satisfy her curiosity would be hard to say. She'd be far, far too tempted to just leap into the fray and work out some pent-up aggression.]

Or you me. It would be easier that way...

[He'd just have to follow the loud booms her fists made every time they hit something. To say nothing of the noise the warhammer made.]

[She did tend to stick out. And also make the ground rumble a bit when she walked.]

Do you have a name, stranger? Or shall I simply refer to you as "Dwarf" for the foreseeable future?

You are the only one I have come across here, after all. I see no reason it would cause confusion.

Hmph. My name is Gimli.

[It probably speaks volumes about the sort of people she's used to dealing with that "Gimli" sounds like a perfectly normal name. She'd heard stranger. Like "Julie."]

And I am Looma. Princess and heir to the throne of the House of the Red Wind.

[If she ever returns home, that is. Hopefully her father was managing without her. She'd heard rumors that time ran strangely while they were all trapped here, but she wasn't sure how much faith she put in them.]

With luck, we will meet on the battlefield for more proper introductions soon enough.
