[The locket is resting in the palm of Vanyel's right hand as he sits under a tree. His legs are crossed and his eyes are closed.]

No matter how hard I push, the barrier remains intact. [His eyelids open, revealing silver irises.] I have used every spell in my arsenal to test our colorful prison, but to no effect.

[Sadly, he isn't surprised.]

Do hot springs exist? I know I could put them to good use.

[How can he feel so old when he's so young? Rising and shifting the locket so his face stays in view, he stretches carefully. Old wounds are a pain.]

I would not wholly mind some company should I visit them either. The Tayledras are completely without shame where their hot springs are concerned. I promise to not follow in their footsteps.

[Meaning he will wear something instead of being fully nude.]

I don't think he wants to think about it, but it was his idea to put the pair of us in the same room. It...may have been Medren's idea that he call for both of us.

[But he smiles right back.]

I'm not either.

He does have a vivid imagination where I am concerned. It disturbs him deeply. [Brushing back Stefen's hair, he kisses his forehead lightly.] He is officially my favorite nephew.

He is rather endearing, isn't he?

He always has been. Perhaps it isn't right to have favorites amongst family members, but he is the one who shows the most promise. He would have rotted if he had stayed there.

Then I'm glad he didn't.

I would have taken him to Haven myself, but I had duties elsewhere. Of course that led Withen to think I wanted him for my...sexual proclivities. He was just a child. That was enough to give me the courage to lecture him for the first time.

I'm not really sure what I can say to that. He seemed much better than that when I met him. Or at the least he was trying to be polite.

He is beginning to learn. I wouldn't stand for him treating you poorly.

I'll consider that progress. [He pushes aside some branches and stoops down to pick up a feather.]

What did you find?

A fledging feather. [He holds it up, the downy tufts waving in the breeze.] It's soft.

Oh? Is it an omen?

It could mean we're starting a new phase in our lives. [Being together, perhaps.] Or...since I lack a bond bird...

[He holds out the feather, smiling.]

Consider this an alen'fe.

[He laughs a little and takes the feather.]

I don't have any idea what that means, but thank you.

It's a feather offered to a potential lover. The Tayledras trade them in lieu of stumbling words.

Ah. [He leans in and kisses Vanyel for a moment, then pulls back, smiling.] Then I accept. Though I'm afraid I don't have one for you in return.

[He hums in delight, eyes half-lidded when they part.]

You've given me enough. It's time I courted you.

That would certainly be a delightful change of pace.

A needed change of pace. [He can't let this go to waste.] Stefen, be with me tonight?

All you had to do was ask, love.

[His expression brightens and he tugs on Stefen's hand, walking faster back to the Caer.]

I pity our neighbors. They won't sleep much tonight.

I don't imagine either of us will, either.

Sleep as much as you like. There's no rush. Besides, there are plenty ways to wake you nicely.
