[It's been a few days now, but when Merida flicks the locket on, she looks like an absolute mess. Her hair is disheveled, it looks like she hasn't slept in days, and in spite of how she's feeling, she's only contacted a couple of people. Who knows how many others he knew? There's a couple of wolfhounds on either side of her, and she rubs at her eyes, wiping a the corner.]
Lancer - that is, Cu Chulainn - he left th' Drabwurld this last week.
[Her throat clogs up and she has to clear it before she continues, one of the hounds nuzzling her and licking her cheek before she gently places a hand on his collar.]
I'm goin' to be livin' in Leathann from now on, since th' fortress is gone, but I'll still be comin' an' goin' between there an' th' trainin' grounds. Anybody that had any unresolved business with him, I'll try an' follow through with it.
[There's a pause before she lets her lips quirk into a tired, wry smile.]
I don't suppose anyone knows a cure for heartbreak, huh?
[And the feed ends.]

( she and Merida aren't close, but Emma feels for her anyway. this is a pain she knows, too vividly. and there's not a lot of answers to be had, especially here. everything she's heard about people disappearing isn't good. she wonders if Merida knows that... and figures if she doesn't, it won't help to tell her. )
I'm sorry. And I'm sorry that I'm sorry means so little, but that's all I can say. If I've got any advice... Let yourself grieve. But don't let it control you.
video;
[Her lips quirk into a small smile of sympathy for Emma when she hears that. She wouldn't wish this kind of feeling, not on anyone, not even her worst enemy. Merida's hand goes to her chest, which has been feeling heavy in the days since she found his shard, before she shakes her head.]
I think...what makes it hurt more is I was stupid enough to make him promise to stay. After I punched him for bein' an idiot. I knew he wouldn't be able to keep it but...

( it's a wistful sort of tone that takes her over, thinking of a time that is very far gone and yet very present in her thoughts all the same. if Emma lets herself, she can go back to that time when she and Neal were together and happy so easily, because she let that loss fester in her heart like an old wound.
it darkened the good parts of what they had, and that's what Emma wants to help Merida avoid, she's just not sure how. )
You're always going to remember what you had together. Don't let losing him take away from how good those memories are.

[There's a quiet noise of agreement. Even though they haven't known each other long, she gets the feeling that Emma knows what she's going through. It helps, even if it's for a sucky reason. It hurt worse than when she thought she was going to lose her mother.]
Not all of them were good, but...I think I'd rather remember th' good memories than th' bad ones.

It's easy to get stuck on the bad ones when they're gone, but... the good ones are the ones that help you get through the day sometimes. At least it was that way for me.
Just don't let yourself think that this is the end of good. Even if everything is different now, things can be good again. ( good for here, granted, but good. )

[It wasn't the same, but it was all she had to compare it to. She remembered that ache during the first few moments of sunrise, when it looked like the curse wouldn't be broken. There was no breaking this, not at all. She manages to give Emma another small smile, even as her mouth twitches itself downward after.]
I know...I know. I just. need to give it time.

( if they did anything at all, it only made things worse. bad memories had corroded a wonderful thing, even if it had fallen apart in the end. she wishes she could have let go sooner, that she could have had perspective that she'd never managed until it was too late.
the best she can try and help others from the same fate.
Emma's smile is sad but hopeful. )
Yeah. It can get better. Lean on the people you still have. It helps.
( hopefully she has those connections. Emma had never been so lucky. )
