video ( open to seelie + unseelie )

[ The feed opens with Hermione in the library - where else would she be? - in the Seelie court, a pile of books and papers around her. It's obvious she's been reading and taking notes, going deeper and deeper into as many of the shelves as she can (and the only place she hasn't been allowed access is the Restricted Area, which she is going to get permission for soon). After a moment of brushing her hair out of her face and forcing a slightly brighter smile she leans forward, into the 'camera'. ]

Hello, everyone. My name is Hermione Granger, for anyone I haven't met yet, and I was just wondering if you'd mind answering a few questions I have?

[ She pauses for a moment, grabbing a piece of paper with a list on it and smoothing it out. ]

I was wondering if you'd all be able to tell me about magic, or powers, or anything that might not be considered 'normal' to the average human or otherwise that exist in your worlds? Maybe magical creatures, too, or beings that you think do not transcend to other places that you've heard of. In my world, if it's alright to call them that, we have magic, magical creatures and humans, giants, werewolves, vampires... But a lot of worlds - or universes, I suppose - don't.

[ She smiles, almost sheepish, shy. ]

I hope this isn't too intrusive, I'm just curious and I'd love to learn more, if I'm able.

[ He looks a little surprised when she apologises, and eyes old but yet painfully young soften in his own apology - he doesn't mean to look so serious all the time, honest. ]

You... have magic, then?

[ For a moment he looks visibly torn. ]

In Camelot, there are many with such... gifts. Not so many as there were, before there was a Great Purge - but those who have them are wise to keep it quiet. Even today there are men and women executed simply for the crime of being born with magic.

[ Of all the emotions to express on that sentence, disappointment is probably not a typical one; but there it is all the same. ]

[ Immediately his expression closes off - cagey and confused all at once. How does she know about Emrys? Is she a danger to him, to Arthur? ]

Magic has been banned in Camelot since the time of King Uther.

[ Clipped. Matter-of-fact. He will not be the one to expose Emrys by a careless slip of the tongue. ]

Merlin is but Arthur's servant.

You spoke with him?

[ Perking up a little. ]

He is here? Could - could you get a message to him?

Hmm, I think you're right about that part.

[Hm, that was an interesting question wasn't it?]

I don't believe it's so much as trial and error as being drawn to a particular branch instinctively over another. For me, I picked up healing magic out of desire to heal my friend's injuries after they returned home with one too many injuries. It just seemed natural to pick up a staff and train myself in its use.

[ Grateful, so grateful. She rises in his esteem immediately from potential threat to esteemed lady. ]

Please tell him I am here. And that Arthur is not with me.

[ A small pause during which he realises he's forgetting something. ]

Ah - Mordred, my lady.

[ Don't judge the harmless baby he didn't kill anyone yet. Apart from maybe some mooks. But nobody cares about mooks. ]

A fortuitous meeting all the same, Lady Hermione.

[ He barely notices he's persisting with the title. Oops. ]

Is there anything I can give you in return?

It's complicated. They're the same person, more or less, but the personality and all that changes a bit. It's kind of like the gods all have multiple personality disorder.

[a bit more complicated than that, even, but it's hard to explain. he's not really sure how he could describe the difference between, say, mars and ares, but maintain that they're still the same person. that clarisse and frank would technically be siblings even if the greeks and romans do things very differently.]

Yeah, well, even most demigods think that they're only myths until they see with their own eyes that it's true. We're not totally immune to the Mist.

[Nico tilts his head slightly.]

We have our own magic with Hecate's children, and even mortals can do it without being related to her, but I don't know much about it. My sister, Hazel, could tell you more details. What's your magic like?

[Oh boy!]

The magic works on a system of belief and willpower. It can do anything from changing your appearance to healing life-threatening injuries. It's sustained only by the hearts of its inhabitants--things like fear and anger can create terrible monsters, but happiness and love have made the world flourish. It's a beautiful place.

About the same. It was November for me, so this sudden burst of spring has been a bit strange.

[ Unlike, say, the imps, castle, orcs, and all the rest of the madness. ]

No. Perhaps it did a very long time ago for some, but not at this time.

[Small head-shake.] It isn't.

I am not sure what to call it. [It isn't inherently malevolent, either.] But it's... from realms apart from anything that people ought to acknowledge.

When they -- have the choice.
