Hey. With everyone preparing for war, thought I would make an offer. Name a monster you want and I'll tame it for you. I need a favour equal in return. You want something simple, it's simple return. Harder and I need more for it. Make an offer if you're interested.

Tell me about the beasts of this land. I need to hear from both courts. What monsters do you know about? The more in-depth, the better.

[He considers saying thanks but he doesn't, just shutting off his locket instead.]

I hope you mean that bastard Hyde or I'll start to feel less unique. [He says it dryly, though. He couldn't care less.] But I can't help hearing everything he does. You're giving him dangerous ideas.

It isn't too much to ask for to be judged on the quality of your character, rather than what you are.

I mean anyone could be dangerous, demon or not.

That's right. But demons are on a whole different level. They're liars, Hikaru. They tempt you and make pacts that take your soul.

Not mine! They've been with me ever since my Dad got rid of me, and they've only ever helped me.

Relax, would you? They're not even here. I wouldn't want them causing trouble anyway.

But that kind of attitude you have towards demons...it's rooted in fear. You perceive them as a threat for what they might do, so you react all tough and mean - it's pretty simple stuff.

All right, I'll accept that I see them as a threat. Higher demons would be a pain. [To put it lightly; even he knows they'd be a hard tie, let alone win. But it doesn't mean he would tone down his arrogance.] But you're telling me your demons don't lie or use humans?

Of course they do, demons aren't perfect.

But neither are humans. That's what my point is; they're not so different.

The humans who make the pacts with demons are just the same, I'll agree with that part. They only crave destruction.

[He shakes his head, groaning.] You know I didn't mean you. You didn't even mean to. A demon took advantage of your wish.

[The distress has turned into a bizarre anger, defensive somehow of the demon that took advantage of him. (Imagine trying to argue with him about Lord Henry.)] Do you think so truly? It was a sincere wish, and I would not take it back! I am glad for my youth, for my beauty, for my healing! And I don't care a bit what happens to my soul! So do you still find me innocent, or would you judge me guilty like all the rest?

[While the babble is nonsensical and only half-true, the defensiveness comes from a deep-rooted sense of guilt, of culpability. The accusation, unintended, from one he trusts and respects so much strikes at the root.]

[This is such a pain, mostly because he isn't very good with emotions. He can state things bluntly but this feels just a little beyond him.]

You're young. When this war is over and you go back home, the demon will collect on his payment. You're not young and beautiful forever. You're just young and beautiful until the demon decides to take it back. You were taken advantage of, even if it was a sincere wish.

[Sighs.]

Don't you get it? I hate them more because of what they did to you.

[That stops his outburst, quells a fraction of the misplaced injury. He looks to Aster, measures him. Tries to decide if it's real.]

You don't think that I'm awful, that I'm guilty. Truly?

Now what about humans who do evil without involving demons at all?

[He sighs. He hates this.]

...They're worse than demons. They had a choice, a way to become something better and they became something worse instead. Having a choice means having to bear the burden of it, too.

[individualist]

So if you do know that, maybe calm down a little on the demon thing.

It's just a feeling I have. I don't know how to explain it. But when I hear 'demons' I know they're evil. But since I can't explain it, I guess... it's stupid.

[Though he hates admitting that and still thinks demons are EVIL!!!!!]

I still don't understand how you know demons won't ever turn on you.
