Well! It looks like we’re being called to do a little work. Since I don’t like to be on the bad side of uber-powerful beings, I’m going to have to be good and scout the southern border of the Unseelie territory.

So! Here’s what that means to you.

If you cross the border and you are not Unseelie, I may just have to drop something unpleasant on you from above. The Black Pearl will be sailing to-and-fro, and despite not having actual eyes, the skeleton crew is somehow pretty good at spotting things. Let’s try to avoid that nastiness, alright?

[A bright smile.]

This job is, well, it’s not exactly entertaining, so here’s how we’re spicing it up.

[She steps aside and lifts her arms out ala Vanna White to show off three mystery boxes. They’re so mysterious they even have big ? marks painted on them!]

Ladies and gentleman, inside of these boxes are three super fun surprises. Or, fun for me, anyway. I’ve asked my crew to place inside one of these boxes a load of confetti, in another box a load of dish water, and in a third box, a load of cow dung.

When you’re spotted, I’ll randomly choose a box! I’ll have no idea what’s in it until my crew drops it on top of you. Won’t that be exciting?

Now, if you continue to persist in your venture into Unseelie territory, the next thing that falls on you will be a cannonball.

See? We can make patrols less boring if we try really hard.

People can cause other people all kinds of problems.

I choose my friends pretty carefully.

But it is nice to have many friends.

[She smiles. Sweet kid.]

[He ...doesn't really. He's not sure if he can call anyone his friend, really. Family, yes, there are a few, people that he had friendly encounters with, but friends...]

I am not very strong yet, so I cannot have friends now. But I will become stronger and then I can have many friends, yes?

What does being strong have to do with having friends?

If people are not your family and you are not strong enough to keep them, they will leave after a little while and only come back again to hurt you, yes? Unless they are really weak, too. [That part was stated with conviction, like an universal truth. The next part however comes with sadness. He's seen family hurt and was unable to help them before, and he hated it (no matter if he was hurt himself at the same time or not, seeing them hurt was worse, in a way - and in a way not, because him hurting always means his people hurting too and he wants them to be safe and happy. But then, that is how things are).] And you cannot help them when someone else is hurting them, either.

I'm.. not sure that's always how it works.

[It seems a strange way of thinking about it, and she can't entirely agree.]

But it is good to be strong so you can keep people you care about safe.

That is how it works though. But if you are strong, you maybe haven't noticed yet.

Compared to the people around here, I imagine I'm pretty weak. Could always be stronger.

But you have a ship.

I do have a ship, but there are people here with magic. That's hard to contend with.

The magic here is that strong?

For someone who doesn't have magic in their own world? I'd say so.

Maybe it can be learnt.

[Not that he necessarily wants to learn it himself, but he certainly is interested in that topic. If it means power...]

It can with a proper boon, but it's not really my style.

It is only possible with a boon?

I think so? I don't think just anyone can learn magic.

[...oh. Well, it probably is not very healthy to learn it, anyway.]

But a lot of people here can do it.

They could also do it back at their own homes.

I don't think that they can go back. Or they would, ....yes?

I think most people here would, yes.

Even those that are not dead back home?

Well, maybe not them.

Do you think we can take others home with us? Even if they aren't from the same world? [There's one person in particular that he really wants to take along, and he doubts that the elf in question has much left to return to in his own world - so he surely won't mind, right?]

I don't know, but I sort of doubt it. They might not fit in there, and a person with magic suddenly appearing in a world without it would be quite a change.
