Beside him is the knife that must have done the job; there are still a few strands of coarse dark hair scattered about and his voice is deeper than usual and hoarse.]

Thorin has left this place. For those that had business with him...my brother and I will pick up where he left off.

[Standing beside Kili, hand placed on his brother's shoulder, Fili nods when the announcement is done, his own expression grim.]

[Gimli is...not quite as distraught as his cousin, but it's a close one. He manages to find him shortly after his announcement and hands him another large bottle of some unfamiliar alcohol. It does the job, and he's pretty sure that's all Kíli wants]

[It cuts him deep, losing Thorin. He's the closest Kili's ever had to a father, and he's never been without him before, not really. Sure, Thorin's had trips away every now and again, but never for more than a season or two. This...he doesn't know how long this will last. It might never end, for all he knows.

Family is everything to Kili, and it's all he has here. Just him and Fili and Gimli now. He takes the bottle wordlessly, taking a long gulp before wiping his mouth and handing it back.]

[Not even a full stanza into the song and Kili's knees draw up to his chest, head falling down to rest on them. Shoulders shake but he makes no sound. Thorin may not be dead, but by Mahal, it feels like it. He presses closer to his brother for comfort, seeking out the warmth of another being to make him feel a little less alone.]

[Isildur... Kili's history is a bit rusty, but that name does sound familiar and his eyes widen slightly. He inclines his head briefly, recognizing that Gimli has made friends in high places.]

[ He may not be a dwarf, but he can tell when someone is clearly in mourning. Then there's the matter that when he went to find Thorin today in order to discuss their lands, the would-be King Under the Mountain had vanished and his rooms were being cleaned out in Caer Glaem.

But he saved a few precious items, at least, with not a handful of harsh words to the servants who wished to take them. ]

I have Thorin's shard and Orcrist. [ Saying nothing of the effort he went to, to get them; they won't care, so he keeps the topic on the stark truth. ] Will you come for them, or would you rather I held them in my possession until I might place both in your hands? I am loathe to send a courier.

[ That comes off disrespectful, even if Thorin wasn't a king. For long. Thranduil can certainly afford him better regard than a common delivery service. But, hey, maybe they will simply want the items as fast as possible, it's best to check. ]

[Kili nods eagerly, nearly pushing his brother out of the way.] Aye, as soon as you can make it.

I shall give word when I plan to set out. [ Which will be delayed because of his attack from the dogs, although he doesn't know that yet. ] Did your uncle speak to you of his plans to build a home in the mountains that face the forest river, on the southern flank of Caer Glaem?
