[Kili's expression is stormy, his beard that once stretched down to his toes now loose and cut jaggedly, now just a few inches long. Beside him is the knife that must have done the job; there are still a few strands of coarse dark hair scattered about and his voice is deeper than usual and hoarse.]

Thorin has left this place. For those that had business with him...my brother and I will pick up where he left off.

[Standing beside Kili, hand placed on his brother's shoulder, Fili nods when the announcement is done, his own expression grim.]

Ask for us by means of the locket - Fili and Kili are our names.

[They will see Thorin again, he wants to believe. These disappearances are not what they once feared after all.]

[He manages a small smile.]

I fear not, and wish now I had. But family is family eh? And a loss is a loss.

Thank you, Maglor. [Kili gives him a humorless smile, already half-drunk and looking exhausted.]

I wonder if you could give us a song?

[ He knows that look, and makes a note to himself to see if he can persuade Galadriel to pass some miruvor - Kili is going to need it tomorrow ]

I can. [ a pause as he riffles through his collection then softly ]

[Not even a full stanza into the song and Kili's knees draw up to his chest, head falling down to rest on them. Shoulders shake but he makes no sound. Thorin may not be dead, but by Mahal, it feels like it. He presses closer to his brother for comfort, seeking out the warmth of another being to make him feel a little less alone.]

[ his voice does not shake, his hands never miss a note, but his eyes are suspiciously bright as he ends and bows. ]

[Fíli sits stiffly through the song, but his hand finds Kíli's back to stay there. When the last note fades, he can't trust his voice for a time, not even to thank Maglor.

It was beautiful, heartrendingly so. It feels too final.]

I... [A quiet breath through his nose.] Thank you.

[ quietly ]

I am only sorry I cannot do more. May you find each other again.

[Kili finally lifts his head, eyes wet as he wipes at his face to nod. He can't speak, but the gratitude is there in his eyes.]

Be well, both of you - as well as any can be, at any rate. And if you need me, I will come.

[As Kíli nods, Fíli does the same. The hand resting upon his brother's back slides to Kíli's shoulder again, squeezing.]

You as well. We hope to return your kindness.

[ A quiet, wan smile and Maglor bows and disconnects ]
