Open and backdated to the 16th!
[The post is open to both Seelie and Unseelie, only because Pod hasn't figured out locking yet (or, honestly, think it necessary). Pod appears on the lockets, surrounded by linen strips that she's rolling into tight rolls.]
I have been hard at work to make things for the army heading out. Wound wash and liniments and bandages, but all my work does not make enough. Not a job for one, this, so I thought, perhaps, that there might be others that would like to lend their time to the task and work with me.
I am also running low on some herbs I need. I would be most grateful if someone knew where else to find them in winter.
[She smiles and bows her head.]
If someone would like to join me, I am in one of the rooms in Caer Glaem that seem set aside for tasks such as these and can send directions. Or if someone would like to stop by and help by delivering them to those in need, that would also be a fine thing.
((ooc: there is indeed a log for those who want to help. and let's pretend this wasn't hideously late.))

Sooo...you're working really hard, but not hard enough, and want people to make you work harder?
[Because that sounds dumb to the chaos child.]
More like, I am working hard, but on a task for more than one person, and I'm wishing for others to assist me with it.
I mean, making bandages sounds really boring.
[Pod shrugs.]
I would say that it was soothing, but I'm not quite sure I'd believe that. A bit tedious, perhaps, but necessary.
What's wrong with a lie? You'd have less to do.
Well, true enough! Perhaps I should have said repetitive.
Because it's a lie? [Pod blinks] And I've never been one to shun work. Only, the horses will suffer if there isn't enough made.

I don't think it is leaving all apiece? I've not had contact with most of it, except for a few of the mounts, and a person or two who takes my liniments and wound wash to the rest of them.

[And from her smile, Pod quite likes Hermione.]
What's in your wound wash? Is it a standard antibiotic, or does it have other properties too?
[You can take the doctor out of the lab, but not the demanding nosiness out of the doctor, evidently.]
And it has the common herbs for cleaning and preventing festering. Lavender, rosemary, mint and meadowsweet. It should have healmoss as well, but I've not found that here.
[She rattles on with a few other herbs, and whatever else one might say about her medicine, none are actively poisonous to most creatures, and many have known helpful properties to modern science, such as pain relief, or being anti-inflammatory, or antiseptic.]
Antibiotics. They're medicine that... wait, we're going to have to back up to germ theory, aren't we? Okay, there are different things that make a person sick, and one of them is tiny organisms that you can't see with the naked eye. Cleaning a wound helps get rid of them, that's why it can prevent infection. Antibiotics are a more powerful and effective way to do that.
[For all she can get impatient in some contexts, Victoria likes offering this kind of explanation. And she's still feeling out the level of medical knowledge available here.]
That's what makes a wound fester? Tiny invisible... creatures?
[Huh. Huh. Well, it makes a kind of sense. If there were creatures as big as Truedragons, why not ones so small that they could hide inside flecks of dirt and poison a wound? Parasites like fleas and worms could certainly cause terrible illness!]
And these anti-- antibiotic herbs poison or scare away the tiny creatures so they can't?
While not strictly accurate, poison comes close enough to the idea, yes. They either kill the organisms that are there or stop new ones from taking hold.
But most antibiotics aren't herbs, at least not at home. The first ones were cultured from molds or fungus, but today you can get more control by making them synthetically. Putting them together in a lab, something like following a recipe. Or at least, that's how it was done at home. I doubt there are enough chemists or enough materials to do much here, based on what I've seen so far.

[Pod lights up to see him. She's not sure he wouldn't do well in war, but still, it's heartening to see he's a man of peace.]
I would love the company, if you don't mind the work or the herbs.
video
I do not - my Lady Eowyn had was learning such things, now that the time of the sword was over, and I would often sit beside her in my free time. I cannot promise I will be any good! But at the least I will be glad to give you company.

Usually with a Master to watch over us and keep us from being distracted, or our brothers-in-fur from stealing the ingredients, true.

[ he chuckles [ Well! I do not know if your Kiga will heed me, but I can certainly try and keep him distracted. I will see you soon, then!

I seem to be out of woundwort, though I don't use that as often.
