As some of you are aware, there was a fire in Caer Glaem's library. An intruder was in the buidling.

As it stands, we as shardholders are the strongest thing our court has to defend itself. If the shardholders of the other court come to us the footsoldiers will be cut down all too easily -- a shardholder is worth 30 or so of the other soldiers.

If we are to defend Caer Glaem therefore we must help in not just leaving her to pursue alliances and fight enemies, but by the stationing of guards. We must keep track of who enters and leaves our city, be vigilant against agents of Morla scouting us out or attacks against us. As you may already be aware myself and Sir Grimm are holding training all through this month for anyone who wishes to learn, but this will require people good at keeping records too.

Luckily not -- a few shelves, perhaps, nothing more. It was intercepted quickly.

That's a relief. I've yet to visit it but I'd like to.

Of course, I am told the library here is one of the finest in all of Drabwurld. I admit, my reading is not the best of my skills, but I would recommend it to any who enjoy such things. The information is diverse and you would find something of interest I am sure.

Of the members of our court, yes, and who leaves and enters. I was hoping it might prevent intruders in the future if we tracked such things a little more thoroughly.

[She's begun to notice that her magic's not at its full power; tracking spells could work, if she didn't feel that her magic's been weakened since arriving.]

I do, yes. Quite a bit. Though...it was through the use of magic, which I'm afraid since arriving it's become weak.

That is still better than myself, I have no magic at all even before we. What kind is it, if you do not mind my asking?

Healing, illusions, elemental. Protection, if it's ever needed. Some tracking.

That's quite the range. Even if they are as not as strong as in your home I have no doubt we would have use of such things. What kind of protection spells, if you do not mind my asking?

It depends on what you require at the time. Some spells take time to learn, days at most. Others can take up to a minute or more.

I only wondered, would it be possible to put such protection charms upon Caer Glaem itself?

It... I don't see why not. I believe that, however, will take time. Weakened magic might barely be enough for a room. I can't imagine it being enough for Caer Glaem.

Even a room would be a start. Perhaps the library, all things considered, if there is a way to stop it being caught alight once more. Forgive me, though -- I do not believe I caught your name...?

Is magic allowed from other realms, to be used here?

Lady Triss, then. My name is Lancelot, I am marshal of the forces here in Caer Glaem. As to magic -- so long as you are not using it against this court you may use it as you please, plenty do. There are several sorcerers within these walls. The use of magic is not a crime, here, if it is so in your home land.

Lancelot. [No comment on Lady Triss.] I have no reason to use it for ill purposes other than to protect myself and those who also come from my homeland. It wasn't a crime back home so much as magic was under scrutiny no thanks to those who used it for selfish reasons.

I understand.

You shall have no scrutiny here, so please -- study as you will.

[She's curious, it doesn't seem like he's well-versed in magic and more of the sword.]

I do. Magic was outlawed in my home, but I knew those who practised it regardless -- to help others. It is only a shame the bad so often overshadows the good.

It's good, that they were using magic to help those in need. It's only a shame that, like you said, the bad outweighs the good. In any situation.

That's all it takes, one sorceress or sorcerer to make a mess of something for their own selfishness.

Caer Glaem's library has plenty of information on local magic and custom, should you be curious, and I would be more than willing to assist with any questions you have or anything you need extra permission for. All I ask is that you help us protect this place, for the sake of everyone here.

Of course I'll help. And I might have to take you up on that offer for assistance when the time comes.

Is there a specific area where I can practice magic?

There is no specific place dedicated to such things, but if you wish a safe area to practice there is the training yard. Myself and Sir Grimm are often to be found there helping teach newer shardholders. If you have need of an open area with targets or somesuch it would suit, and it is quieter in the evenings if you simply need space.
