[After a few moments of shifting around, the locket reveals a round faced young woman with dark hair. She observes the feed with a rather amused expression, clearly still getting used to communicating by locket, before speaking.]

Well. Giant worms. What an introduction. Though perhaps as an introduction to a war, it's rather fitting. Though it got me thinking.

Has anyone been in a battle before? Like an actual proper war with battle plans and troops and all that sort of thing? Not asking for a CV, as I know we're a land divided, but just a poll to start to figure out what sorts were recruited.

I mean you'd think, even with shards and all, they'd try to get people who have a bit of experience at this sort of thing. It's not like we just stumbled in here. Because that's about as far as I've gone with war. Defending a Theme Park from robots on an alien planet and winning by a bit of my clever strategy and mostly pure luck.

[She shrugs and tosses her hair behind her back. Even if the words she used are just strange, she her tone implies that it's little more than commenting what she did last week. And it was. She figures there's little point to secrets in a place like this. She continues briskly, sounding both thoughtful and businesslike.]

Suppose faeries work in mysteries ways. Never met a fairy before. Was half convinced they were aliens too. You'd be surprised about the things that are supposed to be mythical but really just end up being alien. A few ghosts, the Loch Ness monster.

Anyway, faeries and war. Any information on that would be brilliant as I've got to get my bearings if I'm going to stay here and help out as I don't think a literature degree is going to do much for anyone. Unless the giant worms have a fondness for Dickens.

I could deal with a battle if I knew why and what it was for.

[She shrugs.]

Meeting aliens is sort of... my hobby. Or space travel is, really.

I cannot speak for you side, lady, but here on your opponents most of us have bloodied our hands on distant fields in some manner. Not all are warriors, but enough of us are. On your side, I can name at least five that I know personally to be formidable, and I do not doubt that there are others. I would be careful about broadcasting your vulnerability where all can see.

Just because someone's never been in a war doesn't mean they can't do other things.

The Loch Ness Monster is an alien?

Now that sounds useful. Where'd you serve?

[Her lips quirk.]

Yeah, it's called the Skarasen, really. It was brought to earth by some other aliens back in the 12th century. The Doctor says it's not all that dangerous, not really, just don't get on it's bad side.

Sounds like you were fighting the good fight.

Though part of me wants to say that you're too young for that sort of thing, you'd definitely reply and tell me that age doesn't matter in that sort of thing, won't you?

A battle, I mean. I've been in one - a war, really, though it's over now.

I'm glad it's over too. The battles I've been in, they were tough, scary, never knew what decision was the right one. I can't imagine a war.

[She gives the other woman a sympathetic look.]

Hello. I have had some experience with war and battle.

[And yet he sounds faintly confused. Probably trying to puzzle out the CV thing. Or the theme park thing. Or the robot thing.

So much to puzzle out, so little time.]

I will not be here much longer, but if there is anything I can do... any specific advice I can give, I would be happy to aid those whose war this is.

I suppose, I would ask for advice on where to even start. I haven't ever held a sword or shot a bow. I'm completely out of my element here.

I know there's a place in the war room for people like me, but I'm not sure I can always just hide away in a tent behind walls.

Wars aren't always fought on battlefields. Despite the more medieval impression of our surroundings, I believe our hosts are fully aware of that.

No, you're quite right.

So I'd be interested in hearing about any war, on the battlefield or metaphorical, that people have been involved in. To see if there's a deeper pattern between those of us with shards.

We just have spirits back home, not fairies — but I have had to fight them, in something... kind of like what this is?

[ i mean, isn't that what a harmonic convergence is? light and dark fighting. but that's... that was korra's fight, and it didn't involve fighting... well... ok it kind of did involve fighting people sided with the "dark" but that's only because the northern water tribe was in unalaq's pocket? maybe? ugh if he and korra weren't fighting, they could probably sit down and... maybe... hash this out but. lmao they can't.

ugh all that spiritual stuff is confusing when you only know half the story and were in jail for part of the exposition given to the supporting cast ]

Not sure if I could tell much about the difference between spirits and faeries. They're all quite new to me.

[She does notice the scarf now, perhaps it's the one the other man mentioned. But for now, she's more curious about his experiences. But she will definitely be trying to rope him into seeing some fire powers.]

That theme park situation sounds really interesting, though. What kind of strategy were you using?

Suppose not. Though usually you get a lot of impossible technology that seems like magic.

[She cocks her head, a little surprised that someone cared enough to ask her.]

Rounded everyone up into the castle and basically played defense. The odds weren't in our favor.

Depends on what you mean by war, but you could say I've got experience.

[There's no reason why he can't be up front about that, right? No way he's gonna give away the details about what he's fighting and why but he figures confrontation's something they all have in common right now.]

Pretty sure spooks and Nessie aren't real. So, unless you're that guy from Ancient Aliens or a Psych Ward patient lets agree to disagree. There's no such thing as conspiracies unless you're in politics.

Oh, Nessie's definitely real. Just not a monster. She's an alien misplaced from her home. As for spooks, haven't run into a real one of those yet. Only a bit of time traveling phenomena that looked like a ghost.
