I'm looking for someone. [ no doubt, a tried and true phrase the lockets have played before. Connor tacks a piece of paper to the locket so that everyone can see his drawing of a demon. it's sketchy and messy, but a pretty good likeness considering he was being beaten up during his confrontation with it. guess he inherited one more thing from his father's side. ]

He's over seven feet tall and made completely out of stone. And he's mine. [ and by the look on his face and the tone of his voice, that clearly means MINE TO KILL >:[ !!!! but the sassmasters of eachdraidh are welcome to poke fun at him anyway. he lowers the paper, revealing the rest of him and the lovely decoration scheme caer scima's rocking. ] He'll try and kill you, but I don't have to really warn you guys about that, huh? From what I've heard of this place, that's what we're supposed to be doing.

[ killing each other!!! guess who hasn't been given the 'make love, not war' lecture of his life. there's no clear sign on his face that explains what he thinks of that exactly. He moves to turn off the locket and hesitates. ]

I want to know. [ how do I get out, who can I beat up right now, where can I find Angel -- ] Who's winning the war?

[ the locket's frame registers a tilt of her head. a wrinkle of her nose. ] Has anyone told your friend that he very probably has eczema?

[ that's stone, he almost says before frowning. this is people being witty, isn't it ]

Dunno. Guess no one had the time to. Between getting killed and being sacrificed.

I'm not really sure there's a difference between the two. [ getting killed and being sacrificed. but maybe that's the point -- only buffy's not so magnanimous to assume everyone else has her fantastic wit.

so, with a touch more seriousness: ] Looks kinda...demony. Unless you just really suck with the art skills.

[ picks up the drawing again, dryly ]

I guess. I forgot the cloven hooves. [ seeing it on paper makes it a lot less..... impressionable. which wasn't his intention, but hey ] It's not that fast, so you could probably run from it.

Run from it? [ oh, buffy summers. don't you dare smirk. ] Is it -- uhm -- kind of a big deal demon where your from, kid?

It’s Connor. [ just enough of a teenager to frown at all kid nicknames ] And it’s trying to start the apocalypse, so yeah. Kind of.

[ which is probably even less impressive tbh ]

Ugh. I hate it when they do that. [ her tone drops in casual ennui. ] What's wrong with a good old fashioned fancy dinner? Or a hoe-down? Or even a tupperware party? But no. It's always the Apocalypse.

[ it sure is bizarre to hear it so casually. It’s probably because of the blonde hair. ]

Wouldn’t know. This is my first. And I thought the whole point of the apocalypse was that it’s supposed to be the be all, end all. [ where’s your ennui from?? ]

It's more like the word jump. Say it over and over again for long enough and it starts to lose all meaning.

[ if only buffy was available for season four ]

So they all have rain of fire, rats, and blood on the walls? With demons crashing in from other dimensions?

[ he’s skeptical ]

The only real commonality is that they're every one of them a major pain in my ass. [ that can be said for so many things though. so so many things. ] Rats, though. That's kinda ew. Earthquakes are a pattern. But then again -- when are they not a pattern in So-Cal. Plagues. Dreams. Cult activity. Two-headad calves. Really, it's a grab-bag of awful.

[ but now her voice turns just a little softer. just a little more concerned: ] Connor. It was Connor, right? Where's home to your particularly foul and skin-condition bearing apocalypse?

[ most of the skepticism fades the longer she talks. he doesn't get the impression that she's lying (too matter-of-fact, informed, almost like wesley, a lot more like angel). there's a brief flicker of uncertainty at the tone of her voice though. by all rights he should cross his arms and settle into something defensive at the sound of it, but it reminds him of fred too. a little. ~~before the tasing~~ concern, huh. it's been a while. ]

Los Angeles. It only just started. Don't know if anyone outside the city knows about it yet.

Shut up. [ the valley girl is strong with this one. so so strong. the locket catches a widened eye and all that insouciance is blown out of the water with some legitimate surprise. actual worry. ] Gee. Sounds a little too close for comfort.

[ ... ] I grew up in LA. If something's a-rumbling there, I kinda thought I'd know about it--

[ what good is an ex-boyfriend ally if he doesn't keep you abreast of things? who the hell knows. thanks a lot, angel. ]

[ less fred and more cordy now, not that that's a bad thing. he sort of feels bad right about now. he wanted this to be a 'demon. mine.' kind of thing, not a 'sure is apocalypse-y in your hometown' sort of thing. ]

It's bad. [ Connor admits. how comforting, like father like son ] But people are still fighting. It won't get past LA.

[ this is the closest he'll ever come to acknowledging team angel ]

...Not that I'll be of much help, but. [ he purses his lips and shrugs. let's not stew in his own anger at being left out of the action and in fairyland ]

I'm sure it won't. [ get past la. ] LA's got good people. And if you're that keen on taking out old Crackle-Skin up there then it sounds like you're good people too.

[ which means it might be time for a friendlyish intro. ] Nice to meet you, Connor. I'm Buffy. Wish the circumstances were better.

[ good people... would he count as one of them? 'you are', Angel would no doubt insist, but that was before Connor sunk him to the bottom of the ocean. he's been playing midnight avenger, but he's never quite thought of himself on the same level as the rest of angel investigations. he looks a little embarrassed. it's not like she said anything wrong, more like he's just surprised. plus, buffy's pretty so... there's like hormones at work here too, embarrassingly enough!! ]

...Yeah, same here. [ MOVING ON. awkwardly ] Where are you from? You said you grew up in LA, but are you close by?

I guess I used to be. Yeah. Close. Just a not-so-sleepy little town with the very deceptive name of Sunnydale. [ the last thing she knows from home is the gaping crater that once was sunnydale. but now what did she have? ] Just a few hours drive outside the city but -- God -- some days it feels like lightyears away.

Sunnydale. [ he knew it was sunny something or the other ]

Where the hellmouth is? [ is instead of was, because connor's far behind too ] No wonder you sound like you know your stuff.

[ holtz has told him about it before. BEACON OF ALL EVIL and all that ]

[ that last dredge of flippant attitude drained from her expression and her voice. ] Where'd you learn about the Hellmouth? [ seriously there are people who'd lived in sunnydale all their lives and never even suspected. ]

[ he blinks, and replies instinctively ]

From my father. [ and then he gets this look on his face, the sort of look one would have if they wanted to kick themselves in the foot. because holtz isn't his father, even if he sometimes thinks that way. ] And other people. The ones in LA.

Sounds like you run with a pretty rough crowd.

[ she takes this as a game-changer. a world-spinner. a mind-blower. it's rare enough to run into pure strangers back home who know what a hellmouth is, let alone where one is. but here?

suddenly she takes his talk of apocalypse a whole lot more seriously. ]

[ by all rights, they should probably count as the rough crowd. every day demon dealings, every other day apocalypses, but Connor's definition of rough crowd is more like actual demons. ]

They're not really a crowd. There's only... six of them. [ he almost didn't count lorne. ] I don't really run with them either.

No? You just -- what? Overhear them chatting up demonology and hellish hotspots at the deli counter every morning?

[ he did eavesdrop that one time...... he frowns. ]

No. [ he doesn't fancy explaining that he was kicked out, especially to buffy, who's already established herself as an Apocalypse expert. he doesn't want to look lame?? ] It's complicated. I come over sometimes, but I don't stay with them.

[ she might be getting 'kicked out of the clubhouse' vibes from him though ]

[ oh. hun. buffy knows that feeling -- victory might have been achieved, but she still carries the melodramatic scars of a mutiny.

yet self-indulgence isn't on today's menu. in the end she figures this guy's roughly on par with dawn, age-wise. if she was these 'other people', she'd try and protect him too.
