[ This isn't the first time she's discovered a powerful necklace capable of miracles beyond being a plot device, but as an experienced magus who is used to artifacts passing along messages over cell phones, it's no trouble to adjust to it. While she doesn't understand why it works the way it does (what's the purpose of keeping a conversation permanently), from what she gathers it is a primary tool used by many of the others here. Having met someone already from her world, there remains the possibility there may be others so she sits all prim and proper for her debut. ]

Good evening. I'm sure the lot of you are tired of hearing introductions, but it'd be poor manners to not announce myself. While it would be discreet to do this one by one, idle time is limited so I'll make this brief and as memorable as I can.

I'm Rin Tohsaka. [ Surname second only because she assumes Japanese mannerisms are frowned upon in this world. ] Though I've been called away from my studies in London to fight in a war, I must admit my experience in combat is limited. From what I've gathered, there are many like me here. What is there for us to do? How can we aid beyond training and letting our inexperienced manner add to the favor of the opposing side? Showing both intelligence and courage can only get you so far. It seems rather meaningless to have us younger adults throw ourselves into the fray.

So what is it that you do to be of use? Every person brought here must have some value to them and hearing of your experiences may be able to help guide me towards my own. Keep it brief and with as little bias as you can--I frankly don't care to hear about the war this or the war that. Thank you.

Oh, I see your intent now. You were so bored with how your story turned out that you're desperate to hear if it was grander in another life.

[ Turning her nose up in thought. ] I'm sorry, but I didn't really occupy myself with what you were doing. Your actions were so insignificant that they weren't worth any concern.

[ It's almost as if everyone knows she's a magus without her announcing it. What a pain. Add in that she's heard that line about Japan from several of her peers for the past few months so it doesn't even stick. ]

The Archibald family... hm, now it's starting to come to mind. Isn't the sole purpose behind their prestige reputation a result of the Barthomeloi family name? I believe it to be something like that.

When I arrived at the Clock Tower, it wasn't to study the elite families.

[ Since his conversation with Ariadne at the feast, he's gotten more accustomed to the idea that he's the only one of his kind here — indeed, perhaps the only one of his kind anyone here has even seen. But by no means does that make him accustomed to any part of his anatomy being something complimented like that, especially by a human...

So, he's still rather flustered. ]

Khajiit mourns the lack of his people in this world, or in any world... [ This much is muttered under his breath, and he clears his throat before continuing: ] Ah... This one is called J'sairr, yes.

[Almost always. The problem is, Diarmuid had an extremely stubborn daughter of his own. Time to break into his bag of fatherly tricks...]

Are you? I do wonder. I mean, for all your proper words, you are just a girl. Somehow, I can't imagine Archer taking orders from a little girl. The other Lancer must just be wrong. Perhaps he's had a drink or two...

[ Why does every adult man in her life underestimate her? It's a surefire way to get under her skin and poor Rin has no idea just how easily baited she is. ]

Archer understood that I was his proper Master and when he doubted me, I proved myself worthy, just as he did the same when I began to have doubts about his ability to fight.

Just who do you think you are talking down to someone like me?

A pleasure, J'sairr.

And your kind, they are the Khajiit? [ A beast-like race where there's only one of their kind here means he must feel he doesn't have a pack--or something like that. ]

Being the only one brought here means they must have something great in store for you. A task where they can't risk you being troubled by the problems of your allies or distracted... yet, they haven't told you what it is? That's peculiar.

I would be the Servant who just got you to give me the true answer to my question because I doubted your ability slightly. I would suggest that you work on that fault a little, Lady Tohsaka. Your life and your wish will depend on it.

[As if it will make up for having to trick her, Diarmuid bows his head.]

My apologies for that little trick and for upsetting you. My name is Lancer. You need not worry. I will not spread around this information. However, I do have to wonder how you managed to prove yourself to one as...arrogant as Archer is.

[red_branch]

Hah! [Rin, please, he's not dense like the brick you fell in love with.]

I'll lay off the teasing when you eek out a bit of truth, alright? Try not to be so transparent!

Is this a honest attempt to get me to speak the truth or are you just looking for a reason to hassle me?

[ That brick went right through Gilgamesh's window so watch it, pal. ]

What makes you think that I, a magus and Master of the Fifth Holy Grail War, had time to pay attention to what every Servant was doing? Really, it's you who is being transparent.

Kirei told you about me, didn't he.

He didn't tell me a word, rest assured. That doesn't mean I didn't know about you folks and your activities, though. Even if I were in a basement for a week, I wasn't entirely limited to that narrow scope of view.

[That was to say, Lancer knew about Shirou's idiotic patrols. They were looking for 'all' the other Masters, so it was fair to say Lancer and Kirei were a target, even if they were an unknown factor.]

You and your partner stomped around quite a bit. A weird alliance if you ask me--as that kid's only talent was picking a fairly strong Servant.

[gandere]

Lancer-?

[ What's this? Having grown familiar enough with the Lancer of her war (he did a lot of memorial saving in a time where she had nothing else to watch), it's strange to think that the timeline would be skewed so much that another Servant would show up in their place. ]

It'd be unwise of me to reveal my hand to a Servant with who I may have to forge a pact with. Hopefully you understand.

[gandere]

You neglected to pick up on his other specialty: annoying everyone with who he is allied with. A word of free advice you'd do well to listen to. Don't team up with Emiya if he happens to show up here.

Because if you approach him as you approached me, I'll kill you.

[red_branch]

[Of course, Lancer had no basis for such a claim, but he wasn't too far out that he wouldn't make a gamble.]

I see. So, your relationship with that kid seemed better than ours, huh? Wow, to lose to a brat--that's a real shame for me.

[milkdrinker]

[ Once again, his ears fall flat, and he shakes his head. ]

The land of Skyrim is cold, desolate, and very unkind to Khajiit... This one has met few like himself, and fewer who would make themselves allies to J'sairr.

Even so, it is there where J'sairr has been told many times he is meant for great things...many times, perhaps too many times. [ He sighs. ] But this one wants no part of it, and he would rather have no part of this.

[Diarmuid gives her a confused look.]

Would you not wish a Servant you are working with to know about you? It would make it easier for you to work together...

[Though, perhaps her way of thinking isn't that strange after all. It's not like Kayneth is all that free with the information he gives Diarmuid sometimes...]

But if that is your choice, I will certainly abide by it.

[Because, even if he had tricked her before to get her to give him a straight answer, he can't help but feel a little bad about it. It is just how he is.]

[ Ehh? ] It's nothing like that.

Just that I'm a woman of my word and I promised to look out for him. In that regard, I can't have him associating with unruly types who will give him the wrong idea about how he should behave here.

Then what it is that you wish to be a part of? Everyone wants something in their lives so tell me--what do you want to make of yours?

[ Neglecting responsibility (destiny even?) is unheard of for her, but it's not as if he would be the first person she's seen done that. At least she has a genuine curiosity in what he wants. ]

No, of course not.

Servants are like familiars though a bit more unruly and capable of their own thoughts and opinions. Telling you who I am and what I can do will only allow you to pass judgment on me before I could show you my strengths. In short, you might make the mistake I'm nothing but a little girl who knows nothing of war.

But Lancer, I'll tell you this. I'm the victor of the Fifth Holy Grail War. Are you so sure you want to toe a line with me?

[red_branch]

Ahhh? You realize, this kind of place is closer to being up my alley than anybody else, right? If anything, I'm a shining example for what a young man ought to strive to be like, missy.

Sorry to be bold like this, but I think this world can only handle one being like yourself at a time. A shining example or not, your dismissive attitude towards matters that are serious shouldn't be replicated in any other.

[ Really Lancer, tone it down sometime. ]

But it's more than just that. That boy admires heroes and seems to have a fascination with becoming one. Following in your footsteps or that of any other hero will be problematic for us all.

[red_branch]

Bold? To me, that's kind of a lukewarm statement. [If he had to count the number of times someone told him 'Wait! Don't do--', well, he'd drown in parchment or have to use a few castle walls to scratch the lot of it in. His grin suddenly returned.]

That's an interesting thing to hear, but I'm sorry--it's a lost cause. If a boy wants badly enough to be a hero, then his mind's made up for him, y'know.

[gandere]

Don't you think I'm aware of that? It's why I've advised you to stay away.

If Emiya is to become a hero, he needs good influences and not one with flippant mannerisms as well as ideals.

[red_branch]

Oh, is that the kid's name? Emiya? I barely caught it the last time. [So, Rin essentially handed Lancer the gasoline--]

But, I doubt he'll meet a guy who's inclined to teach him to be a hero with the qualities you think are the best. Men who teach other men to be heroes are almost always complete psychopaths. My teachers, for example.

[gandere]
