[Stiles hasn't used the lockets until today, a day spent flicking mostly through the posts and seeing how to actually work this thing and, oh, okay. Like that. It was like a weird magical phone set to Skype. Okay. He could do that.

Hey there, uh, fairy people. And non-fairy people. And, uh, the draconically inclined. Or furry. I don't... just... hi. So, in light of the whole worm thing, which by the way, eww, I have a question. Since there seem to be a lot of, um, not exactly human people around and ones who have skills with like, swords and magic and stuff, ah, what... hypothetically speaking, would someone who was just a regular, normal, average human be able to do here? You know, besides hiding under tables and throwing rocks ineffectively?

[This was a very important question, Drabwurld. He wasn't a werewolf or a wizard or witch or... any of the multitude of people here that he'd run into. His coordination was subpar and, well, he didn't really have any skills that included cutting the heads off of giant worms or not getting eaten by dragons if they felt the need.]

Have you tried looking in the armoury? You could always learn to stab them instead.

That only helps if you're capable of using any of what's in there. Otherwise you might as well just fall on your own... whatever you took from it. Sword? Flail?

I'm thinking of just practicing on some dummies or whatever. They were saying there's some books on magic, too. I don't know if just anyone can use those, though.

There are? Really? Where would these books be? I mean, if someone wanted to go, ah, see...

[The grin in her voice is pretty obvious.]

The library. If you ask, they'll tell you. I haven't tried practicing anything but if you could just light something on fire before it even got to you, that'd be pretty cool, right? Or hit'em with lightning or whatever.

It'd be better than cool. I might actually give me something to work with.

[Not that a part of him wasn't sure he'd screw that up somehow, but hey, he was actually pretty good with book stuff. It was just... running and screaming and being physically useful he sucked at.]

I'm thinking of doing that, too. I don't really know how magic works here but you figure, it's probably more versatile than a sword, right?

Kind of a toss up as to whether it's less or more likely to wind up biting me in the ass.

I get the feeling no matter what we do, it's going to come back to us probably. But I bet magic will get you farther if you decide to travel outside the castle.

There is that. But again, that sort of all depends on if it's something I can pick up and if I'm capable of being good at it. Don't really want to try to start a campfire and wind up either drenching myself or starting a forest fire instead.

You need to practice, right? Like, I guess if you were trying to learn fire, I'd try to find a stream or a river to practice near. Ah and get a bucket ready. Then if something does happen, you're prepared, right?

That's assuming that if I can find something in the books that I'm capable of making it work. It might be fairy people only that can use it or magically inclined people only. I don't know.

We've got those shard so I'm guessing we count as fairy people now. [A beat.] That's one of the weirder things I've said but somehow I think it's true.

... I'm not really sure that's how it works.

Well, the shard thing must do something special, right? It'd be pretty useless if it doesn't at least do one cool thing.

They didn't exactly hand us a user manual on 'how to activate the big thing lodged inside you', so no, I'm going to assume it doesn't do anything. It didn't do anything back home.

Really? There goes my theory. Then you're probably right and maybe these shards really are useless to us. That's lame. It could at least give us super powers.
