( the look on lydia's face is both determined and harried. she's discovered something about the lawkamercyme, as well as herself. her voice is a harsh whisper, and she seems to be creeping around just outside of caer glaem. )

By myself, I can -- ( she sees one of the creatures approaching. quickly, she sets her locket down. in the frame is a massive lawkamercyme. in the background, there are two or three smaller ones approaching. lydia rights herself and approaches slowly, her back to the locket. but it's clear she's going to face them head on. and they notice her. she just so happened to catch one of the nymphs shouting the name of the creatures before falling unconscious, and just hours prior, she found herself hunted by one of the fearsome things. she opened her mouth and channeled her banshee abilities and screamed its name, and it disappeared. so now, as all four of them turn toward her, she draws a deep breath.

through the network of lockets everyone will be able to hear a piercing scream, recognizable as the name 'lawkamercyme'. supernatural beings will pick up on her scream even without their lockets, as her voice is capable of traveling over at least two to three miles of distance to those with heightened hearing. the shadows seem to be jolted by her voice, and in just a matter of moments, they disappear. vanished. gone. after she's sure the coast is clear she turns, breathless, back to the network. )

Ah... that's right. You did seem to have a particularly, um... effective range in your voice. I thought you had been scared out of your wits by those shadow creatures!

[ because it sure the heck scared his wits straight out of him... and her observation is deeply disturbing to Oscar as well. He's not so far removed from the day and age when chivalry once ruled the world, even if the women were sometimes stronger then the men. However... ]

If it's the shards, then perhaps they wish to seek out new life then. We've been told they hold a great deal of power which is why we were brought here to begin with. It could be for that reason too, they prefer women and children. The easier the prey, the better they can fulfill their goal.

[ he's silent for a moment and then he sighed ]

[ Where did he go wrong? Bemusement coloring his face as his glasses slip down a notch, he just stared and then cleared his throat. Turning his face slightly, he pushed his glasses back up. ]

I know many women who have more steel in their spines then us men. I never meant to insult you. However, you did mention these creatures seem to have an affinity for women. I merely thought to advise that you take precautions. If one person can make a dent in these warding off these shadows, should we not likewise ensure that your efforts do not likewise end in sacrifice?

I'm not sure what it is. It cold be something about the way our pheromones emanate to them, rather than any other factor... But I'm not sure. The why isn't present. But the fact is simply that they seem to attack us more frequently. We're no more or less susceptible. They just like us better.
