( the look on lydia's face is both determined and harried. she's discovered something about the lawkamercyme, as well as herself. her voice is a harsh whisper, and she seems to be creeping around just outside of caer glaem. )

I can kill them. By myself, I can -- ( she sees one of the creatures approaching. quickly, she sets her locket down. in the frame is a massive lawkamercyme. in the background, there are two or three smaller ones approaching. lydia rights herself and approaches slowly, her back to the locket. but it's clear she's going to face them head on. and they notice her. she just so happened to catch one of the nymphs shouting the name of the creatures before falling unconscious, and just hours prior, she found herself hunted by one of the fearsome things. she opened her mouth and channeled her banshee abilities and screamed its name, and it disappeared. so now, as all four of them turn toward her, she draws a deep breath.

through the network of lockets everyone will be able to hear a piercing scream, recognizable as the name 'lawkamercyme'. supernatural beings will pick up on her scream even without their lockets, as her voice is capable of traveling over at least two to three miles of distance to those with heightened hearing. the shadows seem to be jolted by her voice, and in just a matter of moments, they disappear. vanished. gone. after she's sure the coast is clear she turns, breathless, back to the network. )

I can destroy them.

[ If Oscar hadn't been aware of a problem before, he was now and indeed, he nearly dropped his locket when that ear splitting scream came across the tiny piece of jewelry.

After a long moment, he opened up one eye and then the next as the silence faded in the calm of a woman's quiet declaration and he responds, tentatively, to her broadcast. ]

Are you all right, miss? You seem to have had quite the harrowing experience.

[ as did everyone else, but if she was safe and that... thing was now gone, he would count the ringing in his ears a small price to pay! ]

( she walks back over and picks the locket up to make more direct eye contact. )

I'm fine. I'm more than fine. I can make those things leave, all on my own.

[dappergent]

[ he breathed a huge sigh of relief ]

Ah, that's good news! I was afraid we'd run out of dogs to protect the innocent, but hearing that makes me feel better. Who knew a word could have so much power.

[ he smiled and then his gaze turned more inward as he pondered. ]

Even so, I wonder why they're attacking us so suddenly... Do you think we did something wrong?

[amplified]

( she laughs a little. ) Well, I have a papillon, but he probably wouldn't be that effective, given he's about the size of a rottweiler puppy.

( then her tone is more serious, because... well. he has a point. ) I'm not sure what gives the word the leverage that it has, but spoken normally, it's not nearly as strong. As for why they're attacking us... I've noticed that it's mostly females, and something about that is deeply disturbing to me. But, best I can garner is that we're not natives of this world. I think it's the shards.

[choreographics]

...pretty impressive range. [Ryan knows screams, but that definitely was a different caliber than a temper tantrum scream. He's just staring at the video feed while he's watching Lydia and it's clear that he's genuinely impressed.] How?

[amplified]

( she laughs wryly, then makes a sort of... not-sure-how-to-shot-web face. ) It's almost a superpower. ( almost. )

[choreographics]

Almost. [Almost like he hears the tack-on of "almost", and that definitely doesn't help his curiosity any.] Is it something you can teach somebody else? [There's a reason for the question.]

[amplified]

No. ( she's not going to be able to avoid explaining it, is she? she sighs. ) I'm not human, exactly. That's why I can scream that way.

[They're frightened of him, the same way they are the dogs. But Lydia's clever - perhaps the prediction of death frightens them just as much. ]

[ Felix's wince is still fading, his hands -- until recently -- very clearly clamped over his ears. ]

Lovely. Fascinating. The opera will certainly be calling -- you couldn't give us a bit of warning?

Oh, I'm sorry. The next time I'm faced with a life-threatening monster that I'm teaching you how to kill, I'll be sure to put out a public service announcement that it's going to be a noise issue first. ( so very unimpressed right now. )
