[the text function switches over to video, which takes a bit longer than expected, because effy has never touched something so high-tech. she learns quickly, though, and doesn't have any trouble fixing up the feed so it shows her face. her face, thin and dusted with freckles and a button of a nose, is unimpressed. in fact, there's hardly much emotion showing besides a small twitch of her brow when she speaks up. around her, it is quiet. her voice is soft with a hint of a rasp. she is smoking.]

Right then. Don't really know where I am, but I don't think I'm awake. You know, how in dreams, it feels like you've been doing something for hours and hours, but when you wake up, it's just been fifteen minutes?

[she glances down, straight hair sweeping in front of her face as she takes a drag from her cigarette. when she looks up, she exhales, smoke dissipating into the air around her.]

Feels like that.

[she gives a sly smile,]

But it isn't a dream, is it?

[with one last flicker of mischievousness in her eyes, she shuts the locket.]

Bristol. England. The place was rather shit but the parties were fun.

[and her friends, and even school, but she doesn't want to go into it. she can't reveal anything that might give away how upset she is. even talking about it is hard for her, but she makes it seem effortless.]

[ nnnno, neither of those names mean anything to her, and she's not sure why that doesn't bother her very much. maybe it's easier to feel less freaked out by the fact that the girl looks just like her, the more things she learns they don't have in common. maybe. ]

[effy's brows arch up in genuine surprise.]

Never? You mean in your fucked up apocalypse world, no one ever thought they'd want to have one giant party before everything went poof?

Maybe they did, but I was only three or four years old when they started attacking different towns with the virus, so by the time I was ...old enough to party, I guess, everything had already gone poof. [ but now she feels weirdly self-conscious about the fact. man. she had a childhood, she'd argue, it just wasn't... fun. in the traditional way. ] I wonder if they have parties here, outside of the feast.

[a sly smile pulls her lips up and she leans forward, just a bit, into the locket.]

Maybe we should make one happen.

[have the courts meet halfway and start a giant party in the forest. there must be some neutral ground somewhere.]

[ she just kind of blinks, like she's ready for the punchline, but then her brows lift up ]

Do you think we could? I don't know the first thing about planning a party, let alone planning one in a castle. Unless we didn't have it in a castle.

[ her expression brightens a bit, like that was some genius idea. oooo, a party iN THE WOODS. bet nobody's thought of THAT before. ]

Yes. It'd be a secret-- we'd keep the invites off the network.

[ she's not sure how to explain she only has like, one friend. and she's not even completely sure she can call him her friend again yet, but she nods ]

We should give it some time, yeah. Long enough to figure out what this place is all about, at least. Good idea.
