[the text function switches over to video, which takes a bit longer than expected, because effy has never touched something so high-tech. she learns quickly, though, and doesn't have any trouble fixing up the feed so it shows her face. her face, thin and dusted with freckles and a button of a nose, is unimpressed. in fact, there's hardly much emotion showing besides a small twitch of her brow when she speaks up. around her, it is quiet. her voice is soft with a hint of a rasp. she is smoking.]

Right then. Don't really know where I am, but I don't think I'm awake. You know, how in dreams, it feels like you've been doing something for hours and hours, but when you wake up, it's just been fifteen minutes?

[she glances down, straight hair sweeping in front of her face as she takes a drag from her cigarette. when she looks up, she exhales, smoke dissipating into the air around her.]

Feels like that.

[she gives a sly smile,]

But it isn't a dream, is it?

[with one last flicker of mischievousness in her eyes, she shuts the locket.]

[she has to resist the urge to make a face at the mention of giant worms, because ew, but as bucky goes on, she becomes more intrigued and more confused. a woman she's speaking to mentioned dragons, as well, but the more she hears different tales by a variety of people, the more she believes it.]

Inexplicable. Wonder what'll happen next.

[falls]

[ yeah dude. the worms were freaking nasty. ]

So we're supposed to sit here and just [she shrugs, a small jerk of her shoulders that imply annoyance.] deal with it?

[falls]

[ he can definitely understand the annoyance, he'd felt it at first, too. now it's morphed into something else he's yet to give a name. ]

[well, that answer pisses her off. her tone becomes tinged with bitterness.]

I'm not going to turn into a doormat.

[she arches a brow at bucky,]

You sure you're happy with your answer?

[falls]

[ he can't help but bark a laugh at that. sorry, sweetheart. ]

Ain't a matter of bein' a doormat, doll. It's a matter of knowin' when you're licked.

[ that and the fact that he thinks he's dead back home and his best friend is actually here.

well. he's not in any rush to really leave. ]

[she gives an empty laugh right back at him. sure, buddy.]

We're being used, whether we like it or not.

[and she's not going to have any of that.]

[she blinks slowly, tipping her chin up slightly as she looks at him. it's a near-challenge, because, really, does she look like she knows self defense?]

[falls]

[ he would. he knows how.

the slow blink is returned; bucky's familiar with that challenging look. he invented it. ]

Don't mind teachin' if you want to know.

[her lips form a small pout as she considers his offer, then she shrugs, offering a tight smile.]

Sure, why not?

[may as well, right? at least it's something to do, something to keep her mind off whatever else is going on.]

[falls]

[ he nods decisively; never taught a woman anything before. can't be much harder than teaching steve. (except for the part where it'll probably be easier.) ]

I'm at the Station for a bit longer.

[mdma]

[she reaches for the locket to close it, but then she pauses-]

Oh. I'm Effy.

[falls]
