[ The locket is floating.

It’s the only explanation for the view that the item gives – a young man, out on the walls of one of the castles, the moon curved behind him. His arms are crossed in front of him, not touching the device as it records. Black eyes (all black, like the depths of the sea) regard it for a moment and then one hand moves, gestures at the locket. ]

Well, well.

[ His head tilts, and while his lips don’t turn up, one may get the feeling that he’s smirking. ]

I must say, this is an interesting turn of events. One that even I did not see coming.

[ His voice is almost monotonous, but there is something like music in it – like whale song. ]

To be pulled away to the Drabwurld, asked to take part in this war. I wonder if they truly know what they are doing. [ His hand returns, head moving back so that he can look straight at the camera. ]

I hear there was a battle. One should expect such things, in war. I suppose I should ask about it. [ He doesn’t. Instead- ]

Tell me, Shardholders, something... interesting.

Interesting is highly subjective. [He feels unnerved by those eyes, but he hides it as best as he can. Everyone deserves a fair chance.]

[ Other than the slight inflection, his tone remains largely the same. ]

I find it interesting that fairies are so powerful when I haven't heard of them before - and I am a practiced Mage.

They are not of your world. Nor of mine.

[ But a mage. He doesn't lean closer, doesn't do anything, but it seems as if all his focus is now on the man on the other side of the locket. ]

Is magic common, where you are from?

I am beginning to understand that. [Though he wonders how they brought him to another realm.] No. It was more prevalent in the past, but magic is dwindling.

[ Magic again! ] Ah. That is a shame.

Does it dwindle naturally? Or do men seek to destroy it?

Those who possess magic seem to be in danger. There are Mages in my world that use their powers for selfish means. I believe they are the ones responsible for targeting those who use their powers - or Gifts rather - for the kingdom.

Those with magic are hunted, where I am from. And yet it was a man with magic who found the lost child of the late empress.

Ah, if they knew. [ He would laugh and laugh and laugh, and watch intently. ]

How did you receive your magic? How did the others?

It sounds like your world is facing a time of upheaval and change. [Needed change it sounds like.] I was born with my Gifts, but my channels were closed. It took a traumatic event to open them.

All things change. Just as they do not remember what came before them, those who came after likely will not remember what he did.

[ Oh, trauma. ]

A terrible gift, some might say.

I hope that isn't the case. [Ah pessimism. He knows that view far too well.] A terrible exchange, but a useful one.

[ And he smiles. ]

That it is. Far too many would wish that they never had such a gift.

[ Corvo. ]

Tell me of yours?

Do you wish to hear of my Gifts or how my channels were opened? [The first one is far easier to relate than the second.]

I would hear of both.

[ The being of curiosity always wants to know both. ]

My Gifts are far more abundant than one would consider normal in my world. I have Mind-Speech, Thought-Sensing, Projecting, Fetching, Far-Sight, Fore-Sight to some degree, Fire-Starting, a dash of Healing and the Bardic Gift.

I also possess something called Othersense. [Now onto explanations...] Mind-Speech and Thought-Sensing are a pair. They allow me to speak mind to mind with people and animals and to understand them when they respond.

Projecting is the ability to show another my thoughts or feelings. Fetching allows me to bring objects to me from a distance. Far-Sight lets me see things far away as if they were right in front of me. Fore-Sight....

It involves future events, but I've never focused much on that Gift. [Except in his dreams.] Fire-Starting is self-explanatory - as is Healing and the Bardic Gift.

My Othersense...

Well, to put it succinctly, it alerts me to other presences and energies.

[Now onto the much harder part...]

I was apart of a spell that was too strong for me to handle. It drained my energy and rendered me helpless to aid someone I loved. I watched them die.

The trauma of using magic I was ill-equipped to use and the pain I felt when I lost them mixed and caused my magical channels to open all at once. I didn't even know where I was half of the time.

[ The Outsider listens patiently, tilting his head every once in a while as something leaps out at him. When the explanations are finished, he gestures with one hand at the locket. ]

And do your gifts all function here as they would back home?

[ His don't. He's not pleased about it. ]

It seems as though you have recovered.

I haven't experienced any oddities. [His Fore-Sight will malfunction, but he doesn't rely on it anyway.] That was many years ago. I've since completed my training as a Herald-Mage.

No? That is intriguing. But then, I suppose they are tied to you.

[ Much of his are tied to the Void, which makes things... difficult. ]

And what is a Herald-Mage?

Whereas yours...are not?

[He finds that interesting.]

A Herald-Mage is someone who is trained at the Collegium to serve the King, Queen and people of Valdemar with their Gifts. We fulfill many roles depending on the need.

I am a being of the Void, and so is my magic. But the Void does not exist, here.

And which role do you find the most interesting, Herald-Mage?

I haven't heard of the Void. What is it composed of?

[The question takes some thought and he tilts his head.]

I enjoy bringing peace to small villages. Seeing people benefit with my own eyes makes the job worthwhile.

All things. No things. It is where things started and it is where they will end.

What do you fight? [ Peace. So many of his Marked, his Chosen, go to such bloody paths. ]

[He's not sure what to make out of that except... It sounds like the Havens in a way.]

Enemies of the kingdom for the most part. King Randale and Queen Shavri care deeply about the well-being of their citizens.

And the enemies of your rulers are your enemies?

As long as I am a Herald, yes.
