[Video | Both Courts] 01st Storm
[Soren has been gathering information rather than being social with the rest of the newcomers at Caer Glaem. Now, feeling as though he's got enough knowledge of the Drabwurld to satisfy him for the moment, the mage turns to the Locket network. He's hoping that a certain someone from his world is here, but at the same time, he doesn't know if they're on opposite sides or the same one. Therefore, it's easier to not call him out and hope that the guy answers, if he's here.
He is at least going to learn something useful about the magic here, and possibly in other worlds.]
I'd like to know how different magic is across the worlds, as well as here. The limits, the necessary components, incantations, how you channel it, any other such thing you can think of.
[He holds up a red, leather-bound book.]
As an example. Tomes are for offensive magic. Knowing and speaking the ancient language it's written in allows communication with the elemental spirit of that particular tome. Good communication allows one to control the direction of the spell, while poor communication can lead to accidents with unfortunate results. Some end in death, but most end in grievous injury, depending on the spell.

--Soren?!

Why do you wish to know?
video;
[ that's helpful right ]
video
Elincia. You seem in good health. I would assume you came here willingly in a faerie ring?
Re: video
I did. [She nods, though sometimes she questions why she did.] Did you as well?
[Video]
Most of our elemental tomes are destroyed after using them for a certain amount of times. The same is true of our healing staves. It would be prudent of me to see if there are types of magic that I could learn so that I'm not in a situation where I don't have an elemental advantage or I am unable to heal.
video;
I take it your world has no need of it?
video
[He really hopes so or else he's going to have a very stern talking to the Monarchs when they next see visitors.]
video
That would be correct.
[A pause]
He should be close by. We didn't have time to return to the station after the last battle.
Video
obnoxiouscheerful voice]Well hello and a good day to you too, sir! ♥
[Anyway, moving on. He'll actually answer the question in a slightly more normal voice]
Yeah, that sounds different from the magic of my world. I've only seen a tome used once, and that was for an absurdly powerful sealing spell.
video;
Well, unless you count miracles, I guess. But most people would say those don't happen, either.

[ 'Elemental spirits' sounds, to his ears, a lot like keeping fantomes. And that, in turn, sounds like a fundamentally bad idea. ]

[Ike smiles warmly at the locket. It's really not the best of things to see more people dragged into this, but he can't deny that he's happy to see Soren anyway.]
Where are you?
private video
Yes, she informed me that you were here. I'm currently in the library at Caer Glaem.
[Who's surprised? Nobody. Nobody at all.]
no subject
...No. We don't typically summon the spirits, just ask or tell them to perform what we require as written on the tome's pages. Only one who wishes to go down the path of the Spirit Charmer would summon an elemental spirit.
What would a summoner on your world be?

They like mages, most likely because we not only speak to them in their language, but we're the only ones who can see them when they haven't manifested in a more physical form. I take it, then, that the spirits from your world very much prefer their freedom?
[Video]
video;
Video
How does it normally work for you?
video
Would you meet me in the library...please? I have something I wish to discuss with you and I believe it would be prudent to have it face-to-face rather than through a locket.
Video
Well, normally if you have the ability, it's a matter of channeling mana and converting it to magical energy - and then just using that energy for spells. Usually that just requires focus, concentration and maybe an incantation if you're into that sort of thing.

Hm. I think I can find my way there. I'm trying to lie low a little, but they've got mountains of books, right? I'll blend right in.
[Or rather, even someone his size could get lost in them easily enough.]
Re: video
[Elincia nods, well aware of the limitations of communicating through such devices]
I'll be there shortly.

[ He shakes his head. No need to bother Soren with the tediums of Couterrenne theory -- at least, not when Felix understands so little of it himself. ]
I think I’d much prefer your sort. [ Felix smiles, faint. ] They sound more akin to our ghosts. Is it loneliness, then, that drives them?
no subject
Enough to possibly hide you with little effort. I'll be in the back of the library.
[It's the most out of the way place, so that should help.]
no subject
Perhaps. I have noted that they respond better when they're spoken to in the ancient language. It can be hard to observe the spirits, especially those of the wind element. They're rather...elusive, and under normal conditions mages are the only ones who can see them in some way.
[Soren might just have to do some research on that when he gets back to his world.]
> action?
[It's a little hard for someone Ike's size to move inconspicuously anywhere, but he at least tries not to skulk too obviously as he heads for the library. He makes it there with a minimum of fuss--only one and a half wrong turns--and heads for the back, relaxing a little behind the cover of bookshelves.]
Soren?

[ He taps a few fingers on the table, restless, then adds: ]
An old friend — annemer, not a wizard — was once able to see ghosts and spirits, where many with magic could not.
[ Of course, common consensus was that Vincent was mad, but that’s a bundle of briar that Felix doesn’t care to untangle. ]
As lonely of a thing to see as to be unseen, perhaps. I gather they’re not grand to gad about their feelings.
> action
I trust you had no trouble finding this place?
no subject
I just followed the smell of dust. Are you trying to read the whole library right now?
