I could also use some maps of the area. Roads. Obstacles. That sort of thing. I imagine there might be something worth finding out there, too.

There should have been a map with your locket. And you can get a horse and weapons from whichever castle you're at for free, and the kitchen staff is usually fine with you taking food.
