It's been a few days since we arrived, hasn't it? That's right, I was wondering how many of us have gotten nice and cozy in our new homes! But it's a reeeal shame for the less adventurous. After all, setting foot outside with all this magic flying around seems a little scary, don't you all think?

[Kano gives a small laugh.] Ah, but staying safe inside is real dull, too! So, so, until my friends pick me up, let's play a small game, okay? The rules are veeeeeery simple. I'll give you my name and two facts about my world. You'll give me yours and we'll both try to figure out who's lying.

[He chose to leave it open to both sides--after all, looking at a broader sample wouldn't hurt much.]

I'll even start off, just to make it easy. My name's Maru! I come from a place that's always summer--and crawling with monsters!

You know how monsters are~! I'm sure you have ideas of your own.

[Oh yeah, she's picturing some giant red-eyed beast trying to swallow her whole. She shudders, and it takes her a few seconds to speak up again.]

Um, w-well, we don't actually have monsters running around here.

[Well, kind of. Not ones that she knows about.]

But still, that sounds really awful! Aren't you afraid of living in a place like that?

No way. [It's not a complete lie. Some "monsters," after all, turned out to be more human than those who called themselves human.] It's all a matter of perception.

Like I said, monsters look just like you or me. To be honest, they act just like us, too! If you're not looking very hard, you might befriend a monster by accident.

Having a monster for a friend is better than having a person for a friend sometimes.

...That doesn't sound like a monster, if they look and act like us, I mean.

That's what makes them the best ones. Don't you agree?

So the monsters don't actually try to hurt you, they're just...friendly?

Is that what you think I'm trying to say? [His tone doesn't give any hints as to what answer he's looking for.]

Um, well, you said you could befriend them, so that means they're friendly! Right?

[If they're even monsters to begin with. She feels a little lost right now.]

[Gosh she doesn't know, she's never even met the monsters he's talking about.

But he's expecting an answer. What should she say? She feels like she's being quizzed for a test she never studied for.

She gives a firm nod, trying to make herself sound confident.]

...Um, yes! Yes, that's my answer.

[She can't see it, but he grins on the other end. Kano laughs.]

Got it, got it. If you really think that way, please be kind to any strange monsters you meet.

[She will try not to scream if she runs into any monsters then.]

O-oh, I'll be sure to do that, mister...?

Maru! [Not his real name at all, but, hey.] Ah, I admit, I forgot yours.

Oh right, Maru! It's nice to meet you. [She finally smiles, and she even sounds a little more relaxed.] And that's because I haven't introduced myself yet! I'm Carol.

Carol, huh? What a nice name. You sound reeeally young.

[She laughs a little.]

That's because I'm twelve!

[... ah. So even kids like her were tricked into coming here, huh?

How despicable. But Kano doesn't let it show in his voice.]

I see, I see. You must've been excited to have a bunch of fairies show up at your doorstep, huh?

Uh-huh! Actually, I was in a really dangerous situation back home, so when they offered to let me come here, I was happy to come with them.

...Although, I'm not sure if I should have or not. What with all this talk of war.

You? Really? What sort of trouble was it? It must've been pretty bad if you took their offer. Did you steal something?

Oh no, nothing like that! I was um...taken hostage by a mafia family.

... you aren't some sort of important heiress, are you? I see, am I talking to an important daughter? I've been speaking so carelessly, too.

No, no! I'm just a journalist - well, more like an intern. I was accompanying Mr. Vice-President for a story and we ran into some trouble.

A journalist, huh?! Say, have you written a lot of articles with this Mr. Vice-President guy? Do you travel all over the world or something?
