It's been a few days since we arrived, hasn't it? That's right, I was wondering how many of us have gotten nice and cozy in our new homes! But it's a reeeal shame for the less adventurous. After all, setting foot outside with all this magic flying around seems a little scary, don't you all think?

[Kano gives a small laugh.] Ah, but staying safe inside is real dull, too! So, so, until my friends pick me up, let's play a small game, okay? The rules are veeeeeery simple. I'll give you my name and two facts about my world. You'll give me yours and we'll both try to figure out who's lying.

[He chose to leave it open to both sides--after all, looking at a broader sample wouldn't hurt much.]

I'll even start off, just to make it easy. My name's Maru! I come from a place that's always summer--and crawling with monsters!

Hmmm...Both of those seem pretty normal. [This is coming from the guy who's lived in worlds of perpetual darkness and twilight. And monsters are pretty much in every world. He should know considering how Heartless are almost everywhere.]

Is your name something else? Unless you're lying about everything? [Maybe he misheard the directions because both seem pretty weird to start with.]

No way, no waaaaay. If all I did was lie it'd make this game no fun, wouldn't it? See, the best sort of lies are the ones where you mix truths in. That's what makes it fun!

Ah, but I guess my name isn't ex-act-ly true! Maybe I'll fess up, to make it just a little easier! Maru's a white lie, that's what it is. I'll give you a point for that.

A-always summer?

[ what a novel concept. ]

Always! [He answers cheerfully. Lie? Not a lie? It's a mystery.] It's aaaalways hot, and no matter where you go you can't escape the heat! Really, it's a huge bother if you ask me.

O-oh yeah, that makes sense. [Now he feels awkward suggesting the last bit.]

Okay, so...My turn, right? [Although he's still wondering what to call 'Maru' if it's a lie.]

I'm Roxas. I know of a whale that lives in space, and I've lived in a world that's always snowing.

[He'll fess up sooner or later.]

... a space whale? [That sounds the most suspicious.] I hope he was decent at swimming in nothing.

Heh, you'd be surprised. [Oh memories~ Having the gummiship swallowed up was definitely one of the more interesting of Sora's memories.]

So which one do you think is a lie?

That's real tricky! [And it was, considering how he has to blindly guess at it. He thoughtfully hums from his end.] It's hard to imagine a great big creature like that rocketing off...

That'd be the most suspicious one, wouldn't it? But a world full of snow sounds just as tricky.

[Ah, why not.] I'll take the whale!

[ a bother? hm. though her heart might agree, the sensibility of her culture can only see the benefit in an unending summer. ]

It must be a land of bounty. [ because supplies grew scarce in the long winters... ]

Bzzzt, wrong! [Yay for Kingdom Hearts absurdities!] The whale is totally real. His name is Monstro, and watched him eat a gummi ship. I don't know where he is now, but he's as big as a world, and it seems like he eats just about anything he finds in space.

I actually lived in a world that's always stuck in twilight.

You think so? Well, it'd certainly beat never-ending snow, that's for sure. But, you know, summers come with droughts sometimes.

...Have you witnessed many of those? Droughts?

Me? Maybe. But I lived in the city, where it isn't an immediate concern for most of us. [That, at least, was a truth.]

Eeh, no way, no way! [It's definitely absurd, isn't it...? He scratches his head over it, trying to picture a giant whale rolling around in space--no, that's too ridiculous. He has to stifle a giggle.] But say, if he's that big, isn't he a real hazard?! He must've been quite a fearsome creature!

My last summer was a long summer -- [ thoughtful. ] But not unending; it certainly has ended, now.

...A hazard? I never really thought of it that way! [Seriously...giant whale in space.] It was probably more annoying for my friend than anything, but I know Sora met some big monsters inside Monstro. So...maybe he's less of a hazard compared to the monsters he's eaten.

Long, huh? How long was it?

[Inside... a space whale...

Kano makes a mental note never to visit this kid's home.]

Ah, hold up though, hold up! A whale that sucks up monsters? In that case... it sounds more like he's a heroic sort of animal.

Hmm. Ten years? Yes. Ten.

[ she barely remembers the last winter before this one, after all. ]

Ten? That's... [He remembers that he shouldn't act surprised by it, so he backtracks quickly.] ... an awfully short time. Ah, but I think it's nicer that way, to have the seasons change up every now and then.

[ the nicer the summer -- the harsher the winter. or so the stories went. she bites her lip and thinks of something kinder to say. ]

Have you ever seen winter, though?

... sometimes. In books and television, sure. I always thought to myself, 'Ah, it's such a pretty sight. I'd like play in the snow once in a while.'

[He'll give her a bit of truth to go with his lie.] Winter seems more like my season than summer.

The snow is beautiful -- [ she allows, and some soft affection suffuses her voice. ] And it always feels fresh.

[A second of quiet. Then:]

Is winter a favorite season of yours, too?

It's...[ her silence betrays a non-verbal panic. like she's caught between two answers. maybe even three. it's hard, really. remembering that she doesn't have to be alayne stone any longer.

she's free to be sansa. if she wishes. ] Winter is inevitable -- for some of us, at least. We should do our best to embrace it.

[ winter is coming. ]
