It's been a few days since we arrived, hasn't it? That's right, I was wondering how many of us have gotten nice and cozy in our new homes! But it's a reeeal shame for the less adventurous. After all, setting foot outside with all this magic flying around seems a little scary, don't you all think?

[Kano gives a small laugh.] Ah, but staying safe inside is real dull, too! So, so, until my friends pick me up, let's play a small game, okay? The rules are veeeeeery simple. I'll give you my name and two facts about my world. You'll give me yours and we'll both try to figure out who's lying.

[He chose to leave it open to both sides--after all, looking at a broader sample wouldn't hurt much.]

I'll even start off, just to make it easy. My name's Maru! I come from a place that's always summer--and crawling with monsters!

...Then I take it that you do fight?

Are you asking if I fight or if I fight well?

[He laughs that question off.] Don't worry, I'm not a warrior either. I'm just a boy.

But boys so often grow up to be knights or soldiers. Do you not have such aspirations?

No way, no way! Those sort of things are way above me. I couldn't be one even if I tried.

In that case, I am certain we won't meet on any field of battle. Not at all. For neither of us have any reason to be on one.

And with any luck we'll meet somewhere much more pleasant, right? [A little peevishly:] Ah, somewhere romantic like a garden or something of that sort~

[ romantic! the word sends an unhappy shiver down her spine. ]

Or else at some feast. [ but she has to remain somewhat pleasant, she decides. but she has to work hard not to immediately impress upon him that she has at least one knight at her disposal. ] Or any other part of a castle, should we keep the same.

That's right, huh? [It's a response he expects and is used to.] Speaking of, have you been to the libraries recently?

I have.

[ her answer is prim and distant; the romantic comment still resonates with her, generating fear. ]

[There's a pause from his end. He wants to figure out how to word this carefully.]

Have you found any good books lately?

[ no she thinks but not for lack of looking. the elvenking had her searching for a particular tome last she was there-- ]

I saw a thick book about -- Gods, what was it called? The First Battle. I did not read it.

[ a half-lie is better than a full one. and far better still than the truth. ]

[He's tried reading that one, but he hasn't gotten very far into it. Wars and past events were interesting, but they weren't a high priority for him at the moment.]

Ah, that one? It's awfully long-winded. I wouldn't blame you. Wars and all that... they're all really similar.

...Have you witnessed many?

[ a question, to pre-empt any of his. ]

... the problems that people share are surprisingly similar. [Pause.] In all honesty, I think that the matters of this world are really, reeeally boring.

[ hm. not quite an answer, but she notes it all the same. ]

Boring? You're not even a little interested?

[If he had to be honest, he was tired of the world in general for dragging them out, again and again. It was despicable.]

They're petty problems that involve people who don't want to be involved. It's selfish. I'd rather keep to my own.
