[Hey, look at that. A step in the right direction. He was learning not to open his posts to the side that he was supposed to be fighting. And killing, if her royal glowiness had anything to say about it. Color him not impressed.

But, he was mentally digressing, the locket held in his hand and panned around his brand new shiny wizard's room.

He made sure to get everything in his little scan, showing off what looked like a chemistry set over on the table there and that glowing ball thing that hw as kind of avoiding because scary and everything that was just too cool for school about this room.]

Isn't this great? They gave me a room, totally warded and everything so I don't have to worry about causing earthquakes or setting anyone on fire. Well, outside of it. I could probably still set myself on fire. I'm trying to avoid that. Look, it even has my name on the door.

[Cue him going over and opening the door to show the stylized plaque that was adhered to the door with his name on it.]

Still not entirely impressed with being kidnapped and not being able to go home and the whole trying to kill me stuff, but this... goes a tiny way to making it better. Just a little bit. Ooh, look at this.

[The locket panned back over to a coat rack, where he'd hung up the cloak he'd found when he'd come in at first. It was a dark, dark red that had shimmery silver highlights when he moved it.]

I got a cloak. They're trying to make me a pretty pimp wizard. Hey, hey Radagast. Would that make me Stiles the Red?

[Have a beaming teenager as he turns the pendant around so he can grin into it.]

[ a dozen replies come to mind. she wants to assure him; tell him she is not long out of the castle; tell him that a gallant party of lords have come to her aid. but then...but then she might be forced to explain why great lords of westeros would trouble with two bastards.

... Ha. Yeah. Um... it's a way to swear without swearing. Like censoring yourself. Where I come from, there's these things called televisions and they broadcast shows and interviews with people and stuff. And sometimes people swear on them and on a lot of stations, you can't do that, so they bleep it. Like beep!.

[Yes, Sansa, he made the sound. He beeped.]

...So it's courteous. [ ... ] To bleep. It's courteous to bleep?

It's kid friendly.

[No, he wasn't cluing in that she might run around bleeping at everything.]

I mean, everyone usually knows what you mean when you bleep, but it's mostly so kids don't run around saying it all the time.

I rather thought that's what a clout on the ear was for. [ she said with surprising dryness in her tone. sansa had been a well-behaved child; she'd never earned herself any discipline until she'd come into king joffrey's court. ] I can't see how a bleep discourages better than a clout.

Hah, well, yeah. We're not really allowed to use physical punishment anymore. Kind of seen as abuse now. So, bleeps it is.

[ so bleeps it is. whatever the bleeps truly were, she wishes for them now instead of the abuses she's suffered. somehow, they had been allowed. and stiles must be from a truly beautiful place if there is somehow a way to keep them from occurring. ]

W-well. Thank you. [ she hesitates. ] For using your bleeps with me.

[ thank you for not swearing. few people do her that courtesy. ]

[Don't let his rendition of his world fool you, Sansa. There was a darkness there and not everyone followed the rules, but he kind of wished they did. And since his father was 'the law'... he just had that extra boost of 'why can't everyone but me do what they're told?']

[ a lady. well, indeed she is. but alayne is less so. thus she's prompted to respond rather humbly: ] How kind of you to call me so, Stiles.

[ noble bastards might be called lords and ladies, after all. but there is no requirement. she must behave like a lady upon sufferance. ]

Kind of the theme, right? Whole lotta lords and ladies around here. I feel like I stepped into a fairy tale book. Hah... fairy tale.

I still have a hard time believing in a whole land without any. [ ... ] Lords and ladies, that is. Westeros has no fairies. None that I have had the pleasure to meet, certainly.

Ha, well. There's some in England. There's still a monarchy there, but it's more of a... an appearance thing. The Queen of England and her sons and husband and the Duke of Earl or whatever. No, wait, that's a song. But yeah, most titles like dukedoms and earldoms and marquis...doms, they're mostly just a title for title's sake. People don't actually own serfs and stuff like they did way back in the day.

[ in a way, it sounds dreadful. because what would she be without her title?

Who owns all the land?

Um... the government? Some people own their own little areas; farms and estates and stuff, but most people rent or mortgage property.

What -- everyone with their own little patch?

[ she is no governing lord. nor is she a steward. but even she can see the chaos inherent. where's the cohesion! the loyalty! from where do men raise their banners? this concept will be a bit harder to swallow than some of the others. ]

Well, some of them. I mean, there's apartments and people clearly don't own those. But some own condos. It all really depends on the area and the house or dwelling on it, I guess.

...Which patch is yours?

My dad's. And we mortgage. It's in Beacon Hills in California. We got a house and a bit of a back yard and we're by the preserve, so we got a lot of woods and stuff. Not bad.

...Do you go hunting?

[ because when she hears a lot of woods she might half-imagine huge sprawling cuts of land. ]

Me? Ha ha, no. There's not really a lot of, ah, hunting outside of people doing it for sport where I come from. Some people still do in like, rural areas or out in the boonies, but not in cities. Besides, you can't kill animals in a preserve.

Why not?

[ well you'd think it'd be obvious with a name like that but... ]

Um... because it's a preserve. It's to preserve the wildlife so that there's a safe place for them and we don't kill everything off into extinction.

[ to extinction? how is that even a problem? as far as sansa's aware, the only things that go extinct in westeros are dragons and houses.

but she tries to be polite, afraid she's already tried his patience with one too many questions: ] If I'm imagining it correctly, it seems it must be a beautiful place.

Hah, well... I think your imagination is probably painting it way nicer than it is. I mean, here is nice naturally; there's not a lot of pollution or garbage or manmade stuf to dirty up the area. But my world has its nice spots and cities can be pretty if you're a fan of architecture. North American cities might not have the same sort of artistic allure as say, Rome or Greece.
