video/OPEN TO BOTH COURTS
[When Elincia appears, she looks a little bit...frazzled. Definitely out of sorts. The circlet on her forehead is missing and her armor doesn't seem to be quite complete]
Ah...I don't suppose anyone has seen a couple of healing staffs lying around, have they? I found this--
[She lifts a giant axe (something big enough and heavy looking enough to look like it should cause Elincia some trouble but she handles the weight well, all things considered) up to the locket and looks a little bemused. She knows who the axe belongs to at least. All the more reason to get traveling soon]
---in their place. As nice as this axe is, I don't think I'm going to find much use out of it.
If anyone finds my staffs, I will be waiting in the stables for their return.
[She can't run off to travel without her staffs after all.
People can find healing staffs all over Caer Glaem. In trees, random suits of armor and so on AND MAYBE IN YOUR THINGS thanks Kow.]

Oh, really? I know a little about sword fighting. [That's...not entirely true. But he knows how to make swords!] So, why did you choose to learn to fight with a sword instead of any of those other options?
Re: video;
[Elincia pauses, thinking over her words carefully. In all honesty, trying to explain how she ended up training as a pegasus knight would be saying too much. She'll just omit her complex home situation and get right to the point]
It's a tradition for the women in my family to train as pegasus knights and carry our family's sword into battle to protect our country.
video;
[Ahahahaha...ha... Yeah, he's going to do everything he can to avoid letting that ever happen. He already knows he'll get his ass handed to him.]
Ahh, tradition. [He nods sagely.] I deal with a bit of that back home, too. Did you, uh. Actually want to follow that path?
Re: video;
That's a bit of a difficult question to answer.
[She never wanted to be queen and no one had ever expected her to become Queen, not when the line of succession had been clearly defined before her birth. But war came and well...]
I never enjoyed violence. And I was never expected to actually take up arms, not when I had retainers to protect me. My country prided itself on its scholarship and peace. Training as a pegasus knight was simply a practice - the idea that I would have to ride into battle one day was preposterous.
Then war came to us and many, many people died. [The memory of her parents' death still hurt, even after all this time] I had been taken to safety but I realised that I wanted to protect my people properly, the way my father and uncle would have. I didn't want to hide anymore.
So I guess you could say it wasn't a path I would have chosen in better times but circumstances pushed me towards it.
video;
[He's impressed, and it shows. The story is kind of inspiring, really, and not at all what he expected.]
Really brave, too! I'd say your people are lucky to have you.

Thank you. Your words are very kind--
[She pauses when she realises she doesn't know his name. How rude of her]
I'm sorry. I forgot to ask for your name earlier.
no subject
[WHOOPS, have an apologetic face, but he's still smiling because... Well, he's glad that his comments seemed to make her happy.]
My name's Hiccup. ...I know it's ridiculous, but it's nothing compared to the whole thing. [Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is way too long of a name okay and way too ridiculous. Letting the dry tone leave his voice, he scratches the back of his head and raises his eyebrows slightly.] And, what's your name?
no subject
[She smiles. Hiccup was an odd name but different worlds meant different kinds of names worked, didn't it?]
My name is Elincia.
no subject
[Oh, but uh...]
Er-- It's nice to meet you, too. ...Are you Seelie? Maybe we could meet up sometime. I'd like to see your healing magic in action. [Excited by the idea, his expression is an eager one, but it settles back into something more awkward after mere moments.] If that's something you'd be interested in doing, I mean.
no subject
[She laughs gently to put him at ease and nods]
I don't mind. I'm in the Seelie stables right now. One of my staffs have been returned to me so I can show you how my healing magic works if you like.
no subject
[Considering their names are supposed to strike fear into the hearts of their enemies, Hiccup isn't exactly typical. But then, he's kind of a little hiccup. Not that it stops being named such a thing from being a little embarrassing.]
Oh, wow, really? Right now? [He'd been thinking, like, another day, but hey! Now is even better.] Are you sure?
no subject
I'm sure. I'm not busy right now and since I need to fix up my cleg's leg, I can give you a proper demonstration on the spot.
no subject
[Okay, yeah, he's excited now. The background on screen starts to move as he walks quickly down the halls of the castle, though he slows slightly as he goes back over what she's said.]
Wait... Cleg? What's a cleg?
no subject
[And much stronger]
no subject
[And he can't wait to see it or the healing magic, so he picks up the pace again, running through the castle.
Soon enough, Hiccup makes it outside and turns his locket off as he approaches the stables. This is where his steps get slightly awkward, and he looks around almost warily, in a way.]
Elincia...? You here?
no subject
Oh, Hiccup? Is that you?
[Behind her, a large, black horse looms, flaring out its wings in an attempt to look intimidating and Elincia quickly turns to hush it gently]
no subject
[It's a joke, but he holds his arms out as though to show himself off. Weren't you expecting a tiny little fifteen-year-old with a metal foot, Elincia?
His smile falters when he gets a look at the horse--or the cleg, he supposes it's called. It doesn't even have to attempt to look intimidating to appear so to him. Steps slowing slightly, Hiccup eyes it a little warily. Which is pretty ridiculous since he's at ease around dragons, but winged horses that are possibly magic are definitely a new thing for him, okay?]
So... This is your valiant steed, huh? [He laughs a little, nervously.] You called it a cleg, right?
no subject
Yes. This is my cleg, Lucetta. Don't mind her, she's actually more frightened of you than you are of her. She just likes to pretend otherwise.
[Silly clegs]
no subject
[The comment puts him a bit more at ease though, and even brings amusement to his expression.]
So! [Taking a second to really take in the appearance of the cleg.] Huh. Not quite what I expected. ...You said there's something wrong with her leg?
no subject
[Elincia startles at the mention of a dragon. They weren't exactly the kind of creatures people interacted with. But perhaps the kind Hiccup meant were actually wyverns.
She nods, waving Hiccup into the stall while she pulls out one of her staffs (one of the few she still had)]
Yes. We were practicing some aerial maneuvers when we had an unfortunate incident with a tree. She scraped up her leg, so I was going to fix it when I found most of my staffs missing.
no subject
[Because, you know, people with pet dragons is totally normal everywhere, right?
His focus goes more to the cleg, however, as he's beckoned forward. Cautiously, he edges his way into the stall and, listening as Elincia speaks, he watches her pull out the staff and gives it an interested look.]
Oh, right. That's pretty bad timing to lose those then, huh? [He laughs a little, mostly nervously.] But, uh, at least she doesn't seem too hurt.
no subject
Toothless is a cute name.
[She lets out a laugh and nods, a mildly chagrined expression passing over her face. She makes some more soothing noises at her cleg, who slowly relaxes and no longer seems so nervous in Hiccup's presence]
It's a mild injury but it's best to get those patched up straight away.
[She holds her staff over the wound, closing her eyes as she pushes her magic through the staff. There's a soft blue glow coming from the crystal and when she removes her staff, the cleg's leg is free of injury.
The cleg stamps its leg, letting loose an approving wicker]
no subject
Right, of course.
[He nods in understanding, then finds himself standing up straighter as she moves her staff over the cleg's injury. There's excitement churning in his stomach, and his eyes are wide as he watches the staff glow. They somehow widen further when it's pulled away and the cleg is fully healed.]
Wow! [The outburst escapes him before he can even think to stop it, and he just stares at the creature's leg with a wide, slightly dazed grin.] That's so cool! I mean, I knew what was going to happen, but actually seeing it--! It's amazing!
no subject
[Elincia laughs warmly at his amazement; it was rather sweet how enthralled Hiccup was over things that were ordinary occurrences back home]
Would you like to pet her now?
[The cleg turns in a circle, as if unbelieving its injury had been healed so easily too. It definitely doesn't seem to mind Hiccup's presence at all now]
no subject
Pet her? Yeah, sure. If she doesn't mind, at least.
[A side-glance back to the cleg, and he's... Okay, admittedly, he's a little bit wary, even if she doesn't seem dangerous at all. He's just used to dragons. Flying horse things are pretty different from that.]
