[ he's back in the clothes he wore when he was stolen: a button-down shirt worn soft, pants, jacket and fingerless gloves. clean, but discolored by soot and coal dust. after a year in the mines, he doubts the coal will ever wash out entirely. the clothes may not look like much, but they're comfortable. they remind him of home.

gale left the bows and quivers behind this time. the hunting knife remains inside his jacket, however, within easy reach. not because he doesn't trust clary — because he doesn't trust the unseelie. he doesn't go anywhere unarmed now if he can help it.

but despite his worries, his face is more open than it had been that first night. his countenance is still serious, but it's not as severe. and when he spots clary, something like a smile softens his mouth. gale tips his chin up in silent greeting before jumping right into the main thing troubling him: ] What's a pizza?

( Clary's the same. Her stele is always with her, even if it's not working as well as she knows it should. She imagines it has something to do with the fairy magic at work here. She's not okay with it, but she understands that it's a thing she's going to have to deal with, or investigate for changing.

She's also in her arrival clothes. Plaid shirt, jeans, hi-tops... Just a regular artsy girl from New York City. Her hair is unceremoniously whipping about in all of its fierce orange mess of curls, no matter what she does to attempt to tame it. They don't exactly have modern convenience as far as hair is concerned.

She walks up to him, at least a full foot shorter, and she smiles right back. But when he opens his mouth and those words come out, she stops. And her jaw drops and her eyes get wide and she cocks her head to the side like he's speaking a foreign language. )

... Oh my god. It's -- like, I don't know -- second only to coffee in the list of foods specifically made to make you drool.
