Like a hazy, transparent projection, embossed against the image as if poorly photoshopped in. ]

[ Look she'd only paid partial attention to what the fairies had said, to begin with. ] Anyway, bit of a strange question. Thoughts on, er, vampires? Werewolves? ... Ghosts? Just curious. Study purposes, personal interest. That sort of thing.

As a rule, vampires are almost always arseholes. And you can quote me on that. I dunno too much about werewolves, but really? They tried to kill you? Were they .. changed?

Yeah, his name's Nico. Short kid, dark hair and clothes, always looks exhausted. He'd be hard to miss if he didn't sneak around in the dark all the time.

Oh, Nico! I met him at the dinner thing. He said he erm- that he was used to ghosts.

[ Which suddenly has her quieting. ]

I guess? Their boss was more like a creepy guy with sharp teeth, though, and they were more like regular wolves, so I kind of thought of shifting the other way.

[and it's hard to think of wolves as the monstrous end result rather than an unshifted form or a mere minion to the lycanthrope thing when jason was sort of. well, literally raised by wolves.

her comment has him similarly quieting, however, politely not stating the obvious. her distorted image and line of questioning could be ignored on their own, but jason is particularly well aware that nico isn't really a social person. if something got him talking to a stranger, and about ghosts, and with everything else taken into account...well, he doesn't need to be a child of athena to figure this one out.]

[ Her mouth crawls into an 'O' shape of vague understanding. Wolf-wolves? Well it wasn't like George and Nina weren't wolf-like, but ... that was only one night a year. Somehow this version of his seemed a bit different. More permanent.

She'd bet George would have run for the hills. ]

Mm. ... He seemed sweet. How come he- you said he always looks tired? Is that 'cause he's a .. son of Hades?

[ She still sounds vaguely unconvinced, but hey. Weirder things, man. ]

No, I think he just doesn't take very good care of himself. He just needs to get proper rest more. You'd have to ask him about it to be sure, though.

[he certainly isn't gonna start babbling about nico's nightmares to a total stranger, anyway.]

[ Which is entirely fair, she wouldn't expect him to. But if it were something else, something a little more mundane like just being a typical teenager that stayed up all hours- well. So she nods instead, intending to just leave it at that. ]

Have you known him long?

Not really. We were, acquaintances, sorta, since about a year ago. But I didn't really get to know him until recently.

["get to know" in this case being a massive understatement. whoops.]

Gotcha. He seemed nice, from what I picked up meeting him. He said ... Something about demi-gods. Are you, um. [ Vague gesturing. ] Is that common where you're from?

Yeah, me too. My dad is Jupiter. More commonly known as Zeus, on the Greek side of things.

Oh Zeus! That big head-honcho. Bet that get's you in with all the ladies.

[ Clearly Annie doesn't know her Greek that well. ]

Not that I've seen. But there are plenty of us that aren't here -- the gods are pretty promiscuous, if you hadn't realized.

I hadn't yet, but I guess I'll keep that in mind. Who are they anyway? The gods. Do we ever meet them?

I can't really say. I mean, I don't even know if they exist wherever everyone else came from. And most people even where we're from don't really meet the gods if they're not demigods. I guess when people die they might meet some Underworld gods when it's their time for judgement, but that's obviously a pretty extreme example.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Time for judgement? That happens here? W-When?

When you die where I come from, I mean. I have no idea how much influence our gods have here.
