[Joshua appears to be out in the courtyard. As always, he's relaxed and casual. However, he also seems thoughtful.]

A calm before the storm.

[It seems like he doesn't realize he's said this aloud, as he moves on without further comment.]

Well, since it seems to be of greater necessity now than over the past year, I've given some thought as to alternate weapons I could use. I've been able to narrow it down to magic and archery. [His smile is almost sardonic.] I'm afraid I don't have many, or any, of the qualities necessary for pursuit in close combat weapons. On that note, I also wouldn't object to learning how to more effectively utilize my shard, especially since recent events indicate that we may have more of a need to learn.

[Joshua has an avid interest in keeping himself alive, thank you very much. He's also not stupid enough to think that he'll be safe from combat situations.]

Oh, and before I forget! I have one, teensy little thing I'd like to know. I love fiction books as much as the next person, and I have something of a passion for history. I'd like to take some recommendations on what are good books to read. With luck, I can see about reading them in Caer Glaem's impressive library.

If you're interested still, I'd hate to brag but I'm pretty good with a bow an' arrow.

[Well, the Monarchs haven't punished him yet, and he had a good time trolling Hiro for most of a day in April. All in all, not as much trouble as he could've been in!]

I'd be delighted. Another's also offered to teach me, but I wouldn't say no to two teachers or at least a practice partner.

Oh, well I'm not goin' to take away a student from another if they have any objections.

[Though she does pause with that. She did offer to teach others to Lancelot...]

You also mentioned your shard. I activated mine last winter before th' battle an' have been workin' on it since if you wouldn't mind a novice tutor.

I think it best if I left that with you and Snow, as I can't speak for her. She didn't seem to have objections, but I'd rather not make assumptions.

[In Josh's line of experience, assumptions usually result in death.]

Not at all. I've heard it said that teaching can help the teacher gain a deeper understanding of the subject. Perhaps we can both learn something from it.

Of course. I've spoken with Snow a few times before, I'm sure we can arrange something.

[She nods, tapping her chin with her finger. She needed somewhere where they wouldn't harm anything if something happened...oh. Merida let her lips quirk a bit at what he said.]

Perhaps we can. I have a friend who's set up training grounds in Caer Glaem. Maybe we could meet there when I'm done with Leathann?

[Though the thought of walking into Caer Glaem still scared her, like it had the first day she'd woken up there. She felt naked in the home of the monarchs, like anything she said or did was watched.]

That makes things easier, then. Just let me know what you both decide.

[It's a shame Leathann is beyond the range of his teleport ability. Ah, well.]

About as well as could be in th' land of th' fae. I have a home outside of th' castle an' I've been trainin' in all sorts of magic over th' last year. My hair's grown back. Although I can't say there weren't some...mishaps. [She pauses and raises an eyebrow.] Yourself?

I certainly thought so.

[It's so hard to tell if he's joking or serious.]

You do? Then I'll have to make a point to visit every now and then. I'm glad to hear your hair's grown back, though. The longer style suits you.

Very well. I took advantage of the long stretch of peace to explore various parts of the lands in and out of Glaschu. It's rich with new cultures and sights, so why not?
