[ben is nervous, but not because he's about to share another vision, but because of what he knows is about to come. he's not entirely sure if it's all relative, but he'd been hoping it wouldn't happen so soon. the winter had been a harsh one. for a lot of people, this may be the first time they've seen, let alone spoken to, ben in a long time.

he finally speaks, his voice even but urgent. he seems to finally be ready to speak of his vision.]

It might be too late to change anythin', but I saw somethin' over the winter. It's hard to describe if you haven't seen it, but it's all important, even if it ain't gonna happen right away.

[he lets out a sigh, rubbing his temples,]

Black line in the horizon, only gettin' bigger. Far as I know, it's the Void-- that ain't news. It's comin'. There was-- there was a head, no body, and arrows hittin' the beach. There was some kinda noise there, too. Damn loud, if you ask me. Then the birds came, bigger than anythin' I've seen before, grabbin' at snakes as big as them.

[he pauses; he doesn't look thrilled at what he's about to say.]

The Shuck was eatin' the White Hart. [he licks his lips, gaze hardening,] Whatever's out there, we got to prepare ourselves.

[the feed ends.]

[This sounds like nothing short of sheer insanity. Gilgamesh almost, almost feels sorry for the man; he almost shudders, too, upon mention of that dastardly excuse for a deity. Unconsciously his hand drifts to his neck, where mana conceals a nasty bite, and has to focus again before responding with unnatural caution.]

For what purpose? Are they not brothers? Why would they take to quarreling?

[And surely the Hart would've fought back, or else fled. Where was the great beast now? The Void troubles Gilgamesh not at all, but the Shuck... the Shuck he's learned well to fear in his own way.]

[As it turns out, that's exactly the question Gilgamesh will ask. Ordinarily he cares little for gods, but in this case... it's very much personal.]

Did you see what became of the Hart? If it yielded to the Shuck's vice, or to some other beast in flight?

[She looks as exhausted as he does at this idea but she plods on, her voice almost monotone.]

[there's some amount of relief that washes over him. at least more people can share the warning-- or whatever it is. it would be a heavy burden to carry it all by himself. he nods to acknowledge her, but more importantly:]

Not much to tell. It kept growin', like it was swallowin' up the horizon.

Right. It consumed everything like some kind of voracious beast. Don't think I could forget that.

[She exhales slowly.]

I just wish I knew more about it.

[Merida's brow furrows when she hears that. The Shuck was eatin' the White Hart. Her bottom lip slips between her teeth as she reaches to brush some hair over her shoulder, far lengthier than when he saw her in June during the tournament, hand subconsciously brushing the hawk feather that sits in her hair behind her left ear.]

If th' Shuck...if he's eatin' his brother, we must be in for somethin' big.

[Her frown deepens, looking worried. She believed in the Black Shuck wholeheartedly; he was the one connection to her world that she had, the way he spoke so of it the first time she met him. That Samhain when she and Ben were drawn together by him. Keep you well, on these of the world's last nights, an' say a prayer for me. Was this what he had meant?]

[his visions are never good, never enlightening in the way that he'd like. they're sporadic and awful and leave him tired for days.]

He say anythin' to you?

[he knew the two of them were on better terms than he and ben were, especially of the way the shuck spoke of her when they first met.]

[She shakes her head, pursing her lips together. Shuck hadn't said much to her on Samhain, but she still stops biting her lip long enough to tell him, crossing one of her arms and keeping the other that held the locket out.]

Only that those were th' world's last nights.

[She assumed he meant the last nights they'd have of Samhain. When the sun didn't rise for five days. She had let him go without asking anything about it, but now she wonders if she should have. Would she get to see him again during this year's Samhain?]

I saw it, too. Gods, I was kind of hoping it was just my power on the fritz. Of course not. [ she huffs, head tilting to the side as she rolls her eyes. like this isn't really scary. ] Of course it's a real vision.

[he's a little surprised to see her-- they haven't spoken in quite some time, and even then, their conversation had been brief. kind of nostalgic, if he thinks about it.]

Why wouldn't it be?

[ she almost huffs again because this is very huff-worthy, it is, but she ends up smiling a little bit ]

How've you been? Besides this whole- thing.

What do you mean you saw something? Where did you see this?

[he'd kept it vague on purpose, but most times, people caught on fairly quickly due to his last vision nearly two years back. she must not have been around for it.]

Saw it in a vision.

[he leaves it somewhat open-ended, most people have more questions. it doesn't help he still struggles with normal conversation.]

[A year ago, Élise would likely have scoffed at him. Today? Well, she's seen stranger things that were nonetheless real.]

Are your visions normally accurate?

[There are stranger things, after all, in this place. Her voice is quiet, gentle, because he looks...almost wounded.]

Are you ill, monsieur?

Nah. Wouldn't say that. [but her second question, has him pause-- he hasn't been sick a day in his life.] I'm alright, thanks.

[This. None of it could be good. Of course, things do rather seem tense between the Courts more recently but all the same. Snow can't help worrying even more at hearing this.]

Large birds? I'm not sure if I could communicate with those the same way. But more importantly, none of this sounds good. Especially the Hart and the Shuck. Not that I've talked to or met either but still....Anyone have any idea on what this might actually mean? Be warning us about, exactly?

War's already here. Been talkin' about it, though-- could mean the end of the world.

[it's a grave statement, but it's the truth. there's a chance none of them survive after what happens, and even if ben doesn't want to accept that reality, it's possible.]

He was....eating the White Hart? That's the creature some went to hunt earlier, right? But what does it mean? None of that sounds good, but I'm not sure about this sort of thing outside the prophecies back home a little.

[It's worrying, to say the least. Terrifying, really. As she tries to imagine what he describes. She's used to fighting Desians and monsters back home, her trials at each of the Seals. But this is a whole other story.]
