1st Circuit - Text for Both Courts, Video-locked for Unseelie

[There's probably a better way to do this, but at least he can put out feelers and see what he's working with. Since the decimation of Caer Scima Hiro's been a little more than bitter toward the Seelie and while he doesn't want to have anything to do with any of them, he realizes that as a scientist he needs to gather as much information as possible.]

It's been a long month, hasn't it? I'm not used to any of this. Monsters? Destroying people's castles? It's weird. I was getting ready for class one day and the next I came here and then the fighting started. I think I'm going to fall really, really behind in my homework.

Makes me wonder…what do you miss most about home? I can't be the only one who really misses advanced tech (computers, video games, even the old stuff like VCRs would be okay at this point.) And I know, I know, the Station exists but it's not the same.

So, what about you guys?

[If he can figure out what people value? Maybe they can use that to their advantage, too.]

[Unseelie Locked]

[Now comes the hard part. With that out of the way the video function of the locket clicks on and it's obvious that the locket's hanging from something in front of Hiro. He's in a room at the Station, ever-recognizable blue hoodie hanging loosely on his frame but the sleeves pushed up to his elbows. More importantly than that? He looks a little nervous.]

…hi. My name is Hiro Hamada. I don't know most of you, but I hope you're listening anyway.

[He pauses and looks to the side, evidently looking at someone else who's in the room with him. Deep breath, Hiro.]

It's not a secret that we lost this battle pretty bad. That's a fact, but I think there's something we can do about it to help recover. I know there are other people that don't know how to really fight, or there are people who can only fight with weapons. What if we could do something more than that?

[Give him a second and he's holding up his hand. It looks as though he might completely freeze up but after a short moment a small fireball appears in the palm of his hand. He wants to put it out immediately, but he pauses long enough to at least look at the locket again.]

I couldn't do this when I first got here. [And the fireball vanishes.] Think about how much stronger we'd be as a court if everybody could wield a couple of spells. Even if it's not something you want to use for offense even picking up a few for defense is better than nothing. I know there're a lot of magic users here but…well, Lemina and I have been working on something pretty cool.

[He's going to lean forward and pick up what looks like a piece of paper with a class list and a list of elemental spells written on it to show the camera.]

The Guild's designed to not only teach people how to unlock their own magic ability but hone it and build up to becoming a better magician. We have a few ideas how to use it to help our side of this war. We're going to start classes soon for anybody who's even kinda curious. [A pause.] Look, I didn't even really believe in magic before I got here and knowing the little bit I learned saved me back there. It'd be really cool if you guys considered it and you can always ask Lemina or me if you have questions.

[Actually…he looks off screen toward where Lemina's sitting.] Maybe we should do that now?

[ooc: This is actually going to be open to both Seelie and Unseelie because of the mage university being started by Tzilan just outside of Redgate. Lemina's been putting up flyers around the Station and Hiro just doesn't realize it and has a very strong bias against the Seelie. If there was I'd be learning that first. I miss flying. [Still. He looks over the list though even as he answers.] Maybe we could figure out something with a little wind magic. I bet if you could create enough power you'd keep yourself airborne long enough, especially if you had something to control the direction of air currents.

You're right, Hiro! That's how my magic carpet back home worked! Of course you can use anything. Brooms are popular, too.

[She's so proud of how fast he catches onto the theories.]

Wait, so you can teach me how to use a broom like an actual wizard?

[fliesbynight]

Magician but sure! They're good for traveling in a pinch since you can grab a broom from pretty much anywhere. I prefer magic carpets but it takes more concentration than a broom.

[zerotohiro]

Magician, sorry. [Someday they'll have a talk about how magicians, in his world, usually don't use real magic.] What about like a hoverboard? If I built something here could we charm it to make it fly?

[fliesbynight]

A hoverboard.... just a board that would float? We should be able to.

[Her research has yet to give her 'hoverboards'.]

[zerotohiro]

Yeah it's like. [Well since she's in the room with him, he's going to dig out his journal and flip it open to a page that shows a drawing of a hovercar he and Tadashi created or were in the process of creating.] It's like this, but it's flat. Does that make sense?

[fliesbynight]

Yeah sure. It reminds me of the magic arrow kind of. That flew really high in the sky though, not just hovered. But if it was just hovering, all you'd need to concentrate on is the small cushion of air between you and the ground. Easy!

[zerotohiro]

You didn't tell me about some magic arrow thing. What's it do? [He'll get back to the whole hoverboard thing in a second, he wants to know about this arrow.]

[fliesbynight]

Well... here I'll draw it without the shell. It's mega-cooler without it.

[She takes the paper from him and draws a strange vehicle before holding it up.]

Presto! What do you think?!

[zerotohiro]

That...[He's just looking at the paper, squinting to see if he can make heads or tails of it.] Is really weird. It kinda looks like Tadashi's bike torn apart. How do you make something like that?

[fliesbynight]

[She slumps. She thought it looked really cool.]

Magic and metal. The control panel adjusts the direction of the arrow and the thrust of the engine.

[zerotohiro]

[It's okay Lemina, no matter what Tadashi > everyone in some instances.] It sounds easy enough. We could definitely make something like this if we have the right parts and the right enchantments. I just wish I knew where to find a lot of metal.

[vaccinations]

Fuck yeah.

I mean, I don't think that's how it works in comic books, but whatever, I'll take what I can get.

And then after that firepower so I can make like flaming tornados and shit.

[zerotohiro]

Like any of this--[He gestures around him]--is how it works in comics either. We'll think of something, it shouldn't be that hard.

[...Ellie. Ellie no. Flaming tornados are not okay. But he remains fairly outwardly calm, just raising an eyebrow in response.] Why flaming tornados specifically?

[vaccinations]

Well. No.

But I've never really read too many stories about places like this. I saw a few of them but most of the pages were ripped out.

[Then a shrug.]

I dunno. It sounds pretty cool.

[zerotohiro]

I've never really been big on fantasy. [That was more Fred's department.] Coming here and seeing all of this in action is still really, really weird. At least with comics though pretty much anything can happen. [A beat.] Wait what do you mean most of the pages were ripped out? What comic book store were you looking in?

[It does sound cool, but he will just be very, very far away when she tries it.] It'd definitely help wipe out advancing armies next time. Lemina can create these huge flares. If you really wanted she could probably work you up to flaming tornados.

[vaccinations]

I dunno. I mean, it's kind of cool I guess. Like dragons and knights and gnomes. But I liked the science fiction stuff more. But I'd read whatever the hell I could find even if I didn't like it. [A beat of her own.] I dunno. Maybe someone used them for firestarters or something. I picked it up off another kid in school. He said he found it on the edge of the zone in an old book store.

[A huff.]

Well. Considering I've got a tower to defend. Wiping out armies is the idea.

[zerotohiro]

[There are several key words in that sentence that he's taking into consideration and he has a bunch of questions he wants to ask her suddenly, but he's trying not to phrase it in a way that's demanding. It's sort of not working.] That's because science fiction's more superior than fantasy. Think about it. In a fight between a dragon and an alien who do you think would win? Dragons can only fly and breathe fire. Aliens can get into your head and do all sorts of damage.

[...hold it.]

Whoa, wait. You're one of the baronesses?

[vaccinations]

Yeah. But what if the dragons are aliens? Like they came here way before any of us ever did. So they can fly and breathe fire and control your brain. How fucking cool would that be? It's like... science fiction fantasy!

[She's clearly proud of herself for that one because... who wouldn't want to read that? It's amazing.

Oh and also.]

You're looking at Baroness of Spire Number Seven.

[zerotohiro]

[...wow.] Touché. I'd read it if something like that existed. Let's just hope they don't have something like that on their side though.

[Well. He's doing really, really well for himself saying a bunch of stupid stuff to people who hold positions of power.]

Dude. That's...[Impressive. Ellie can't be much older than he is and she's a baroness? How do these things even happen.] Sick. [He just sort of stares for a second before he decides to share a little more.] I've been out working on Spire 10. I haven't met a lot of the other baronies here.

[vaccinations]

Maybe I should write it myself. Become a world famous author and baroness.

[She gives a shrug and shakes her head. It's a cool idea but... she won't hold her breath on it. Besides, she ought to be the one to bring that idea to life.]

Sick? I guess so. I dunno, I just got a letter from the queen being all "Go here and be a spire baron". I haven't met too many either. We're all pretty far apart and I've got repairs to do on mine.

[zerotohiro]

It's not like we don't have all the free time in the world here. You know, if you don't count the whole "preparing for the next battle" thing.

[He shrugs as well.] It's still pretty cool. I mean I just got here so I haven't even heard anything from the king and queen, and I've only met two of the other barons. [...oh, wait.] What kind of repairs? How much damage did it take in the last fight?

[vaccinations]

...Well that's kind of what I'm supposed to be doing. We were right at the forefront of the fighting. So I guess the next battle could be anytime for us. And I'm sure everyone else has their own shit at their own spires.

[She gives a little shrug again. She knows how that must be pretty shitty. Dragged here and not knowing anything.]

They blew up some of our supply lines and some of the front of the spire. Not too bad but we gotta repair it.

[zerotohiro]

Right...[Good point.] I've been to a couple of them since everything happened. It's a mess out there.

[Let's just brush past that, shall we?]

Great. Just what we needed. [A beat, and it's clear he's considering something. Oh well. What's one more project?] If you need an extra hand, I can probably help with damage control on seven, too. Might be able to split my team in half for a little bit.
