[ Grief, as deep as the sea, as endless as the sky. Pain, like sheeting ice, in the voice that speaks... and for those with ears to hear, a tiny, quiet envy and relief. ]

For those who knew them, the list of those freed from this world now includes the Lady Galadriel and her husband, the Lord Celeborn, their daughter, the Lady Celebrian, the Lady Idril, and Maedhros my brother. Also, the Lady Sif, who counted us as family in lieu of those left in her own world.

Their things are with me, but they left no letters behind.

Well enough to be considered.

[ Asgardians could be loose with their views on family, if only because there were only so many Asgardians at any given time. people who had lived together for centuries. it was so uncommon to call good company "family." ]

... That's a shame ...

[ and it is, actually, as much discomfort as her presence would bring him. ]

Yes. I will miss her sorely, but ... I suppose I will have to content myself in hoping that she is home now, with those she held most dear, and safe beyond the reach of the rulers here.

Perhaps—though as a great warrior of Asgard, there may be setbacks in a battle that she's yet to finish. Ah, well, we'll have to work twice as hard to brandish that blade, won't we? For Lady Sif!

[ A quiet shy smile, almost surprised ]

You must know her very well, it seems. Yes. I... do not know how much good I will be in a fight any longer - there is no... joy there for me. But... yes. I suppose, I can try and honor her memory.

[ well might've been an understatement. he couldn't say he knew this Lady Sif in particular, but multiversal counterparts were never that different, despite what everyone believed. ]

Well, stabbing is a little last season, but there are a little more unconventional ways to go about it. None which she'd approve of, I'm sure.

I suppose that much is true. She certainly seemed to prefer things fairly straightforward. She was never happy with the seemingly arbitrary lines drawn here.

Most aren't. Things are much simpler when they're black and white, aren't they?

They are, although I suppose I do not truly remember what such things look like. [ Things are often black and white, but the sons of Feanor have never had that luxury ]

But here they seem more grey than normal.

Usually that's the case when someone's in their midst. [ and true to that. ] Everything looks grey when you're within it, a little darker when you're outside.

I suppose so. But all I see here are fools and blind men, who never stop to question why, and a war that rages with too many never knowing why they fight.

[ a weary sigh ]

You would think that folk would hesitate. But I suppose it takes time for Men to see, and most die too soon to learn.

[ Loki tips his head to the side, leaning forward on his folded hands.

he knew the ways of wars well, those in Asgard revealed in it. they'd all fight each other, impale one another and then move on to the next realm. if it wasn't the frost giants, it was the Vanir, and if not the Vanir, then the Angels. Asgard always needed somewhere to fight, and it was always violent when it came to divine war games. ]

Someone's wrong, and someone's right. Sadly, all the metaphorical boiling seems to have hit a breaking point. I almost feel bad for the pot.

Rather I would pity those stuck in the pot, through no fault of their own.

[ He shakes his head ]

And who is wrong, and who is right? The Queens lie, after all.

Isn't that the question? Moreso who's right upon their own justification, and who's wrong upon the other. There's never a wrong and a right in these things, just a lot of butting heads and unnecessary violence.

Well said. And the ones who suffer are those trapped in between eh? There are too few here who ask 'why'.

Blindly marching into battle without asking questions first, hm?

[ that got the Asgardians no where for tens of thousands of years. ]

Aye. Far too few ever bother to ask. Most are only too eager to leap to do the bidding of the Rulers. "The are the enemy" and most are only too swift to accept that ruling. But when my kinsfolk stood across the divide? That was never an option for me.

I know that the Seelie Queen, at least, is a dissembler who wears one face and practices another. I know that the Unseelie Queen is a magnificent manipulator, and that tends to imply one less than truly honest.

[ He shrugs a little ]

I know that they will say they care, and in the same breath send children out to kill and die.

That's war for you. [ not an excuse, really. in fact, it makes it all the worse. the Asgardians fought and killed in wars, for honor, victory and glory, among other vague and pointless ideals. ] I take it that the two of them are the ones that run this fiasco?

Aye. Although I would prefer them to be more honest about it! The two Queens seem to be the ruling powers, aye. They have Kings also, one apiece, and but the Unseelie King has sat silent on his throne all the time I knew him saving only on Samhain, and what I hear and see suggests that the Queens are the true power.

I had expected fishy—but fishier and fishier this gets. You'd think it's high tide at the pier.

[ but of course something fishy was going on in the course of politics. he supposed he didn't expect anything less. ]

[ That startles a smile from him ]

You have a fine way with words, sir! I would that there were more of your ilk, perhaps then we would not dance so easily to the Rulers' tune.

No, perhaps if they knew their true intentions no one would. Secrets and more secrets.

Even so. Wheels within wheels, I think I heard said once. So the lie becomes truth becomes lie again, until perhaps even they no longer know which is true and which is false.

Many stories start as lies, but it doesn't make them any less true to the one telling them. [ lies for comfort, lies for gain, lies that eventually become truth due to circumstance. as the god of lies, he knew that nothing was ever so simple as being aware of falsehoods. ]

Perhaps they swallowed it long ago, that doesn't make it any simpler for us. [ there's a huff-like sigh. ] Ah, where's the shining light of truth when you need it?
