( Her progress in working out what her locket does is very much a WIP. Still, she has fiddled with it enough to activate whatever magic controls the moving images of people. This is in an invaluable tool in her eyes, because she has precisely the purpose to put such a resource to use. Keenly aware that appearances matter especially so upon making a first impression, she is dressed elegantly, and her hair is mostly left in loose waves, some cloth-of-gold ribbon threaded throughout. She keeps the look on her face pleasant, but cool.

There is no benefit for the time being in playing the fool, as she had at home. The warmth of her smile does not extend to her eyes, not yet. Instead they hold a light of curiosity, and a great amount of seriousness. Her awareness of the situation at hand is dim but for this: she is not dreaming. She has lost all, and stands to gain everything if she but works for it. Just as her father had won the throne of England: with smiles, charm and good business sense.

Her address, then, is an earnest one. )

Good day to you, one and all. I know not how many of you there are, or from whence you come. Yet if I may, I would humbly beg a favour, if you would be so gracious as to indulge me: your acquaintance.

Indeed, I would meet as many of you as might be possible. And, if you would be even more indulgent, information pertaining to the state of affairs in this land and abroad. I find myself possessed of a desire to know the full scope of things here ere I chart my course and navigate myself through whatever trials I may face here.

( Now, finally, the warmth enters her eyes. She has no choice; it would not do for all the land to bear witness to her grief. )

I am Elizabeth Plantagenet of England. It is my hope that I will be able to repay any kindness shown me sooner rather than later. I look forward to meeting and speaking with many of you!

I know not. It is a fair point that we are here, and this is not at all a dream. But it is frightening to think of what manner of magic would be powerful enough to draw people in from across the centuries, would it not?

( What she leaves unsaid is: if such a power exists here, why then is there a need to bring people at all to fight this war? )

[of course it's frightening. effy doesn't like to think about it because it's so alarming. she doesn't have any powers, yet she was brought here.]

They need all the help they can get, I think.

So it would seem, yes. Tell me: did you learn of the Cousins' War, if you were taught the history of our country?

The situation I face at home is much the same.

( Hey, if she could ask people from across time and space to help her expel the Tudors from her lands, she might just do it. )

Ah, your pardon: the half-century long civil war my family began over which branch of the tree would succeed the throne. The House of Lancaster, whose emblem is the red rose, and the House of York, whose badge is the white rose.

( Basically: the wars of the roses. Though she does not know they bear that name. )

[she didn't stay in that prestigious school for long enough, or pay enough attention, to really know more about it than what elizabeth has said.]

Maybe if you added magic to the mix, it'd be the same.

Perhaps there was a little of that to it.

( Her expression shifts to one of wry amusement. )

After all, witchcraft done by my mother and grandmother is to blame for the entire conflict, according to my aunt. And anyone else prone to superstition.

( Except that superstition is not at all unfounded. Though not knowing this girl at all, Elizabeth is not about to admit that. )

[she's surprised that even after visiting the library, elizabeth still seemed dead-set on ignoring the possibility of magic. if anything can disprove a belief, it's the library. effy's still trying to find a book that tells her more than just the basics. she wants secrets; even the floor plans to the castle would be fantastic.]

( Elizabeth raises an eyebrow. )

I do not dispute that there is magic here. But at home?

( Yeah, she does not know Effy well enough at all to admit to that yet. The girl may very well be able to tell something is being held back. That's all right.

One corner of her mouth twitches, and forms a wry half-smile. )

To say it is so would be akin to heresy.

( Stiffening, Elizabeth widens her yes, and then narrows them in careful thought. This is a test, is it not? There is no possible way that she could know about her magic. )

Yeah. We've had a lot happen in the past, but the castle's never been this crazy. Dunno what's coming.

[she's never truly seen a war prepared as such before, and while it intrigued her, it also worried her. she can't let herself be involved in this, at least not by much.]

War, if what I have been told is any indication. I have seen it: a field soaked in blood, bodies of the dead and the dying all about..

I never wish to see it again. We must prepare our defenses here, but also pack our things in case.

( Once she had always felt assured of victory. Now? Hahaha. No. )

Yeah. Home's good, far as war goes. Uneventful.

( Because maybe diplomacy can still be a thing. She can charm the pants off anyone if she likes; and she'd certainly try her best. )

Sort of. [she lost track of all the times they've been attacked, or attacking someone else. there's always something going on, even if it doesn't seem like it.] Dunno how bad it's really going to get, honestly.

[she's never seen so much preparation for something. it's bad, whatever it is.]

( Not good. Though she technically has never endured a siege, she knows better than most what must be done in the event of one. In times of war, it was always a threat. )

Be sure to have your things packed and a method of escape secured, just in case. Those mountains surrounding us could defend us or turn this fortress into a death trap.
