I have heard that our shards possess a power of sorts - once that could be wielded with the proper training... [It's an intriguing thought, although it is equally terrifying knowing full well what power could do in the wrong hands.] If there are those who might be willing to share more on this, I would be most grateful.

I do not wish to use it to harm others, rather to help. I come from a family of skilled healers and would like to lend my assistance however I might in these dark times. [Which brings her to her next point...]

I also seek information on the healing properties of the native herbs, any assistance would be much appreciated. [She gives a soft inclination of her head before offering a smile.] Aa' menealle nauva calen ar' malta.

Close, it's a start. Much like many languages, with practice I'm sure you could perfect it. Try again, just repeat after me. [She draws it out the each syllable, slowing her speech.]

Gosh, no. I sort of don't want to embarass myself more than I already have. [ A wince, and Kelsi gives a bit of a smile. ]

How many languages do you speak, though? English--I think this is English--and Elvish?

There are a few incarnations of Elvish, I mainly speak Sindarin, though there is also Quenya among others. I can also read runes as well as quite a few other languages from our world. [A beat.]

Everyone must start somewhere. Never be embarrassed when learning something new. It's how we grow, how we improve.

Oh, wow. [ A pause. ] What's the difference between Sindarin and Quenya?

[Aha.] Sindarin was derived from Quenya - the language of the Grey Elves when they settled in Beleriand during the First Age.

Have you met Maglor? [Because while Quenya wasn't a strength for her...]

Yes! Maglor and I are very well acquainted. Well, we will be once we go to the Station for hot cocoa. Why?

[There's an almost sadness to her smile if Kelsi were to look close enough.] I am glad to hear it. He is family, of a sort. He and his brother raised my father and uncle.

[She's leaving quite a bit out of that like kidnapping and death, but details.]

Oh. I thought Elves were really close to their family--what happened to your father and uncle's parents?

We are, but there was a war. Many fled for safety, some perished. Choices were made that ripped families apart, such as the one my grandparents had to make.

[She hesitates to say more, not wishing to tarnish her view of Maglor.] My father and uncle eventually found safety and grew to be strong and valiant leaders. They were raised in a home of love, despite how they came to be there.

That sounds horrible... Gosh, I'm sorry. Not that I could help! It just seems really sad. Does it ever bother you?

History is what forms us, what helps make us what we are. We can learn from it, grow from it and hope that such mistakes are not repeated. [She gives a soft sigh, trying to decide if she should caution her where Maglor is concerned.

A gentle one, she thinks.] Be careful trusting those you don't know, young Kelsi. There is much you do not know of people's pasts and while they may seem to have the best of intentions not everyone is as true as they may lead you to believe. [She would hate to see that youthful trust come back to hurt her.]
