[Anyone who knows Lancelot will likely as not be immediately surprise that he is sending any kind of message that is written. It is hardly one of his strengths. Still, the message is short, and this way devoid of emotion. Which is best, considering the topic. ]

For those who knew him Faolan is no longer with us.

He sacrificed himself for the sake of a friend.

So far as I understand he will be returned, in some days, by the power of the courts.

He will need space and kindness.

...but he was in our court. [Wait. Wait no something doesn't make sense.] When I met him at the training grounds, those were our training grounds? You're sure he was from the other court?

[Suspicions. Rising.]

He was. He did not wish to serve in Morla's court. He swore an oath to work under me, and I swore to keep him safe so long as he did.

[ A pause. ]

Or try to. I did not succeed.

I didn't realize you two were that close. ['What about Guinevere?' Not that it's his place or business to butt into Lancelot's personal life but this all seems sort of strange to him.]

What actually happened? Can you tell me that?

[ Get your shipping goggles off, Ryan. ]

Lancelot. [And the tone is probably more serious than the man's ever heard from him.]

I've heard a lot of unpleasant things about the world lately. I need to know what kind of things we're up against, what's really happening here. [A pause.] But I can understand if it's too hard for you to talk about.

[ Well. You asked. ]

... There is a creature the Unseelie wish to raise known as a Jabberwock. Its breath is as poison, and it flies as a dragon does. I have read that it left the land around Treun destroyed long enough there was a famine. The creature cannot be destroyed, not even one piece, by normal means. We sought a way from the Pyrii. They are... fickle creatures.

[ He pauses, heavy, long enough that he might not go on -- then he does suddenly. ]

They agreed but still turned on us, Faolan saved me from the flames and was burnt alive himself.

A Jabberwock. [He's heard the name before, but it was in a story back home. But as Ryan's learned pretty much everything that could be a story is, apparently, real. He's almost glad they can't see each other right now because the look on his face is actually pretty horrified...and he doesn't even want to think about how Lancelot must look.] And they're going to...what? Turn this Jabberwock on us?

[He'll come back to that in a second.]

Nothing can be trusted, can it? That...was a very brave sacrifice. And Solais said yes because he saved one of her own. How did you escape?

He gave me a ring of his, one that made him as mist -- untouchable. If he had worn it himself he would still be alive.

There's also the part where if he had worn it himself you would be dead. Don't think he would have wanted that, either.

Is he still going to be the same even without his shard? Court alignment aside. [He hasn't exactly met anyone who's gone shardless yet. These are important questions.]

So much as a man can be, after such an experience.

Why can't Solais give him a new shard and make her one of ours? If she's going through the trouble of reviving him wouldn't that make sense?

It is not so easy as that. The shard pieces were scattered, have been within us since we were born. The monarchs seek to retrieve them. To reunite the pieces of the gem. Faolan is sworn to me, to this court, he is accepted now. That does not mean they would grant him a piece of something they aim to restore.

So really what you're saying now is that Faolan's almost no more than Lady. [In the most basic, crude terms. Sorry Lancelot.] That's the downside to the whole thing.

I'm still sorry it happened.

Faolan is my friend.

[ His voice is quiet, but determined now. So much as he loves his dog he will not discredit Faolan with a comparison. ]

He has gone out of his way to help me, to travel with me, to protect me, to listen to and advise me and he is not worth any less than any other man here -- shard or no.

[Oops. Okay, let's backpedal a bit.]

That's not what I meant. I mean of course he's still worthy and he's no less than any other man, that's not--my sister treats her dog like a person! [Ryan you're seriously not helping your cause.] I just meant that there's nothing really controlling him but there's also nothing besides you protecting him. And I'm not saying you can't, but...it's a lot.

That still doesn't make sense, does it?

[ Lancelot's flash of defensiveness eases, but... no, he cannot claim to understand the muddle of thoughts there. ]

[A sigh.] Sorry, never mind.

...let us know if something goes wrong and when he comes back, okay? [He means "me" but us sounds less personal.]

I would rather not consider such an option. All the same, he will need some space, but I will express your concern to him when he returns. It is his own choice if he wishes to announce himself or not, I will not force him to.

Understandable.

...just don't forget to take care of yourself too, okay? That's just as important.

You are kind to be concerned, but I will be fine. A few days rest will help, I am sure.
