[ an Oracle of this world is dead, just after delivering an important prophecy, and they're trying to pin the blame on a Shardbearer. just a few days prior, she fought with Luke when he was tasked by the High King of the Seelie court to find a Seer, and now the Seven Star Oracle of Laethann is dead. an Oracle is dead and shortly after, Rachel receives a letter that she might be needed in the search to find someone to take her place.
it's the timing of it, that's what makes her gut twist.
she knew there were Seers here, natives to the Drabwurld that were connected to the fate of it from the start - she's been looking into it more than she's told anyone, just for the sake of knowing. she has to know, she thinks, because that has to be why she was brought here. her purpose, her fate. the war back home had been messing with her power somewhat, but here? she wouldn't have to worry about relying on the ..mental state of the gods. she could be connected to a different destiny, a different set of fates. she could use her power to help again, and isn't that what it's all about? so she's been looking into it, little by little, hoping to find a path, a purpose. she's been looking into ways she can use her own gift of sight to help here, try to tap into the quests given by the monarchs just to give a little guidance, anything, but she never had any luck. it's something you need to be gifted with, something you're chosen for. just like home. but this isn't how she wanted to learn more. this isn't what she wants to be doing to help. and it's not a sense of pride, it's not that she wants that position, but it's a sense of place that makes her feel this way. it isn't her place to be the one picking, even if the decision wouldn't really be hers in the end.
the idea of finding a new Oracle ( a child, the recently deceased Seer was just a little kid. ) and, what, hoping they answer the call? hoping she sees it as an opportunity, the same way Rachel did, instead of turning away from it? it's a little daunting. it's a lot daunting. but maybe things are different here, maybe being the Oracle is a true honor, maybe it's not something people try to run from, or talk people out of. the elves seem to hold their Oracle in high regard, at least, and that's a little reassuring. it makes her feel less like she's been tasked to help find out the next victim of some terrible fate.
which all sounds dramatic, but hey. prophecy is very rarely a lighthearted thing.
so she takes to the library first, starts with the basics. Laethann, and its history. the origins of the first Seven Star Oracle, the type of power they look for in the girl ( which, wow, they... sure are powerful kids, aren't they? ), how they choose if she's destined to serve as the Oracle. the Aellyn clan. which- that's where she gets caught up. her quest ( a real quest, she keeps repeating the word in her head. quest, quest, quest. ) seemed daunting, sure, but possible. something she could help with. but what she learns about the Aellyn elves is enough to make her feel more hesitant, in a different way now. but. two sides to every story, right? there has to be more she isn't seeing. something- something. something books can't properly express. at the very least, why they would seek out a Seelie Shardbearer to help with their search for a new Oracle. ...although maybe it's just her experience that speaks to them, and hey. she can't argue with that. she likes to think if there's anyone that can talk a person into fulfilling their destiny, it's her. she knows how scary that decision can be, but she also knows how important it is. ]
[ either way, after more than a few hours of reading, she finds an empty spot in the library so she can turn on her locket, stacking up a few books so she can leave the locket on top and keep her hands free. she turns on a video feed shortly after, showing a slightly weary but otherwise focused redhead with her hair pulled back in a messy ( seriously messy, untamed mass of curls ) ponytail. ]
Hey. [ she's not exactly whispering, her voice just isn't capable of whispering most of the time, it's a sad fact of being a big-mouth, but she's trying. ] So, alright. I know the timing is bad because of what's going on with the vampires and the elves, but I need some help finding information, if you guys are up for it. [ "you guys" meaning everyone that has access to this broadcast, yep. but she'll act like she's talking to everyone personally, one-on-one. it's easier that way. ]
I'd like to learn more about the Aellyn elven clan. I- [ she's not sure if she should be talking about this publicly, but it makes more sense than trying to navigate around it. honesty is the best policy, and all that. she'll just.. avoid stating it outright, as much as she can ] I've been asked to help them with something, something really important - to me, at least - but the things I've read about them don't exactly paint a clear picture for why I should do it. So, I guess I'm just asking for advice on this.
Judging by what I read, I'm not sure I understand why they'd ask me, a member of the Seelie court, for help. I know there's a lot going on with the different elven clans right now, but have they outwardly chosen a side in our war, too? [ she huffs ] I must sound so ignorant, I'm sorry. Um. [ moving on! ] The things I can do would explain why they'd like my help, and I know the Oracle herself didn't align herself with either side, but it still seems a little sticky, y'know? [ "sticky" is the best she can come up with after being in a quiet library for wayway too long ] And I'm thinking this is an even longer longshot, but - I've read a little bit about the first Seven Star Oracle, how her power manifests and that sort of thing, but I have a few questions about the most recent one, if anyone might be able to help with that. I'd like to know about every Seer that's held the position, but the most recent might be a good place to start.
Uhh- [ she's shifting books around on the table now, flicking through pages ] Prophecies! There have to be prophecies here, right? Great Prophecies, I'm talking about fate of the world stuff here. Did anyone actually hear the last prophecy of the Seven Star Oracle before she was killed? [ she actually winces after she asks, realizing she's probably getting too caught up in this, too fast. ] Gods, this is so- [ she huffs ] I just- I can't go there, to the Spire, and ask the people there for answers when they're going to be in mourning. As they should be, but-
[ ohhhh she's babbling, and she knows it. she shuts her eyes and shakes her head, squares her shoulders ]
I'm just looking for any information you guys are willing to give me. About the elves I might be traveling with, the history of the Oracle, any prophecies she's given that haven't come to pass yet. Anything that might help.
Thanks.

It's mostly a pride thing in my case, but you absolutely can never count on that sort of thing. It's simply a nice bonus if it actually does happen.
