[ an Oracle of this world is dead, just after delivering an important prophecy, and they're trying to pin the blame on a Shardbearer. just a few days prior, she fought with Luke when he was tasked by the High King of the Seelie court to find a Seer, and now the Seven Star Oracle of Laethann is dead. an Oracle is dead and shortly after, Rachel receives a letter that she might be needed in the search to find someone to take her place.
it's the timing of it, that's what makes her gut twist.
she knew there were Seers here, natives to the Drabwurld that were connected to the fate of it from the start - she's been looking into it more than she's told anyone, just for the sake of knowing. she has to know, she thinks, because that has to be why she was brought here. her purpose, her fate. the war back home had been messing with her power somewhat, but here? she wouldn't have to worry about relying on the ..mental state of the gods. she could be connected to a different destiny, a different set of fates. she could use her power to help again, and isn't that what it's all about? so she's been looking into it, little by little, hoping to find a path, a purpose. she's been looking into ways she can use her own gift of sight to help here, try to tap into the quests given by the monarchs just to give a little guidance, anything, but she never had any luck. it's something you need to be gifted with, something you're chosen for. just like home. but this isn't how she wanted to learn more. this isn't what she wants to be doing to help. and it's not a sense of pride, it's not that she wants that position, but it's a sense of place that makes her feel this way. it isn't her place to be the one picking, even if the decision wouldn't really be hers in the end.
the idea of finding a new Oracle ( a child, the recently deceased Seer was just a little kid. ) and, what, hoping they answer the call? hoping she sees it as an opportunity, the same way Rachel did, instead of turning away from it? it's a little daunting. it's a lot daunting. but maybe things are different here, maybe being the Oracle is a true honor, maybe it's not something people try to run from, or talk people out of. the elves seem to hold their Oracle in high regard, at least, and that's a little reassuring. it makes her feel less like she's been tasked to help find out the next victim of some terrible fate.
which all sounds dramatic, but hey. prophecy is very rarely a lighthearted thing.
so she takes to the library first, starts with the basics. Laethann, and its history. the origins of the first Seven Star Oracle, the type of power they look for in the girl ( which, wow, they... sure are powerful kids, aren't they? ), how they choose if she's destined to serve as the Oracle. the Aellyn clan. which- that's where she gets caught up. her quest ( a real quest, she keeps repeating the word in her head. quest, quest, quest. ) seemed daunting, sure, but possible. something she could help with. but what she learns about the Aellyn elves is enough to make her feel more hesitant, in a different way now. but. two sides to every story, right? there has to be more she isn't seeing. something- something. something books can't properly express. at the very least, why they would seek out a Seelie Shardbearer to help with their search for a new Oracle. ...although maybe it's just her experience that speaks to them, and hey. she can't argue with that. she likes to think if there's anyone that can talk a person into fulfilling their destiny, it's her. she knows how scary that decision can be, but she also knows how important it is. ]
[ either way, after more than a few hours of reading, she finds an empty spot in the library so she can turn on her locket, stacking up a few books so she can leave the locket on top and keep her hands free. she turns on a video feed shortly after, showing a slightly weary but otherwise focused redhead with her hair pulled back in a messy ( seriously messy, untamed mass of curls ) ponytail. ]
Hey. [ she's not exactly whispering, her voice just isn't capable of whispering most of the time, it's a sad fact of being a big-mouth, but she's trying. ] So, alright. I know the timing is bad because of what's going on with the vampires and the elves, but I need some help finding information, if you guys are up for it. [ "you guys" meaning everyone that has access to this broadcast, yep. but she'll act like she's talking to everyone personally, one-on-one. it's easier that way. ]
I'd like to learn more about the Aellyn elven clan. I- [ she's not sure if she should be talking about this publicly, but it makes more sense than trying to navigate around it. honesty is the best policy, and all that. she'll just.. avoid stating it outright, as much as she can ] I've been asked to help them with something, something really important - to me, at least - but the things I've read about them don't exactly paint a clear picture for why I should do it. So, I guess I'm just asking for advice on this.
Judging by what I read, I'm not sure I understand why they'd ask me, a member of the Seelie court, for help. I know there's a lot going on with the different elven clans right now, but have they outwardly chosen a side in our war, too? [ she huffs ] I must sound so ignorant, I'm sorry. Um. [ moving on! ] The things I can do would explain why they'd like my help, and I know the Oracle herself didn't align herself with either side, but it still seems a little sticky, y'know? [ "sticky" is the best she can come up with after being in a quiet library for wayway too long ] And I'm thinking this is an even longer longshot, but - I've read a little bit about the first Seven Star Oracle, how her power manifests and that sort of thing, but I have a few questions about the most recent one, if anyone might be able to help with that. I'd like to know about every Seer that's held the position, but the most recent might be a good place to start.
Uhh- [ she's shifting books around on the table now, flicking through pages ] Prophecies! There have to be prophecies here, right? Great Prophecies, I'm talking about fate of the world stuff here. Did anyone actually hear the last prophecy of the Seven Star Oracle before she was killed? [ she actually winces after she asks, realizing she's probably getting too caught up in this, too fast. ] Gods, this is so- [ she huffs ] I just- I can't go there, to the Spire, and ask the people there for answers when they're going to be in mourning. As they should be, but-
[ ohhhh she's babbling, and she knows it. she shuts her eyes and shakes her head, squares her shoulders ]
I'm just looking for any information you guys are willing to give me. About the elves I might be traveling with, the history of the Oracle, any prophecies she's given that haven't come to pass yet. Anything that might help.
Thanks.

Oh, yeah, I'm pretty sure I saw the King's warning on the network about- a week ago? About the fighting going on. Maybe I could- message him directly. [ even though he's like, Hades levels of intimidating. hoboy. ] I'm mostly just worried about time. I'm not sure how long they'll be willing to wait for me to make a decision, and this seemed like the quickest way to get some answers.

Thank you. With the fighting that is about to break out, I'm certain these elves won't mind waiting for an answer. They might not exactly have a choice, after all.

Though that just brings up the fact that I'm not sure I want to be traveling with a group that also- happens to be at war. If they're a part of it. But I"m sure they are - they're trying to get all the different elf clans to team up and fight, aren't they? [ she pauses ] This might be the first time I miss being right smack in the middle of a big war. At least I knew everything that was going on when I was trying to figure out how to stop it. [ rambleramble. no, she doesn't miss the war back home, she doesn't miss her friends fighting for their lives against Gaea, but yeah. she does miss being in the know. ]

[ not ideal. she likes to think that the objective of her quest would come before anything to do with Seelie and Unseelie. but she doesn't know for sure. ]

I'm starting to realize there's a lot about this world I don't know very much about.

Hey, f we were back in my world, I wouldn't have that problem. The age thing, I mean. Prophetic visions are fun like that.

[This place is weird]
I hope you find the information you seek, lass.

...but he might have a few leads, depending...]
I'm a bit far from any libraries at the moment, though I suppose I could get you some information sooner or later. The different Elven tribes are, at the very least, bound to have opinions about each other, and the Laethan seem fond enough of me that I'd be able to discuss things with them.
I don't know when I'll be able to speak with my main contacts, but they may turn up sooner or later.
Sooner would be preferred, in all honesty, but only because I'm not sure how long they'll wait for an answer from me before they decide they're going to head out on their search.
Although really, any information is appreciated, like so much.
[ she doesn't quite sound desperate, but she's. close. ]
How did you get to meet your contacts in the first place? What are they like?
Their names are Ceilar, Bhelar, and Llenii, and they commissioned me for a magical object after their tribe was attacked by vampires. Llenii's a bit of a musclehead and Bhelar's a bit timid, so Ceilar seems to run things. For all I know, I could run into them, but I'd imagine they wouldn't be quite so close to Caer Glaem right now...

I mean, it's definitely good to know I'd be safe traveling with them on a ..group survival level. I just have to figure out if they have any issues with Seelies. But really, why would they send me this letter if they cared about what court I'm in, you know?
[ totally just thinking out loud, woops ]

It's mostly a pride thing in my case, but you absolutely can never count on that sort of thing. It's simply a nice bonus if it actually does happen.

Whether the Aellyn truly choose a side or not is unknown to me, but they were safe under the Unseelie protection last I have spoken with them.
[ Pause. ]
I have had dealings with them, indeed, and with me travels one of their own. [ He trails off at the tail end of that sentence, correcting himself quickly enough. They have refused him that time, and the sole Aellyn elf has left the tribe in turn. Out of his loyalty to Legolas, or for any other reason, he has not had the heart to question him even all those months later. ] Formerly of their clan.
May I ask first why is it that you wish to know? You speak of a task they ask of you, but what task is it?
Re: video. private
Someone from their clan sent me a letter- they want me to help in the search for the new Seven Star Oracle. Which- part of me wants to jump at the chance, because of course I want to help, but it also made me realize I really know nothing about them. I just want to learn as much as I can about the clan before I agree to help them or not.

They are those who safeguard the future, and it is their task to search and mark the new oracle, indeed. If they choose you for help with it, then they must strongly believe you can actually help. It is an honour, I should think.
Their Artes are varied and powerful, something I believe you would call Magic instead. They are of dark skin, grey to obsidian, with hair as white as pure snow, with a penchant for stealth and secrecy. The tribe itself is split into clans, and a head of each one is a woman, a mother.
[ He's really not all that well versed in all things political, but this is a matter near and dear to his heart, no matter how his failure with the Aellyn is a sore spot. ]
I may allow my Aellyn friend to ride with you if he desires so, from him you would learn best, and perhaps an aelfen guard so you may travel safely... [ At least those who has displayed least animosity towards the Aellyn and the strongest loyalty to Legolas himself, those he could trust not to start trouble. And the old Mirkwood guard. ] But- the price for my help is but a favour, if you choose to aid them, let it be known it is with the aid and support of I Othrann-in-Heneb.
[ Then his smile turns a bit playful. ]
Though I still do not know the name of the one I offer my aid. I am Legolas, son of Thranduil and prince of the I Othrann-in-Heneb.
[ No longer the Woodland Realm, nope. ]

Oh, yeah you bet. I'll sing your praises to whoever would listen, I'm not even kidding. You might have to teach me how to pronounce that name again, but, I'd be happy to let them know.
This is so- Having someone come with me that I know doesn't, y'know, secretly hate Shardbearers, that would make my decision so much easier. I want to help them with this, and I'm not usually the type to be all "whoa, safety first" before jumping into a quest, but that was my main worry, considering I don't think I could bring one of my friends along for the ride if I accept. I think the invite was just for me.
[ babblebabblebabble. she'll be embarrassed about this later. but like, way later. introductions! right ]
I'm Rachel Elizabeth Dare, Oracle host of the Spirit of Delphi, speaker of the prophecies of Phoebus Apollo. [ she was back home, at least. nevermind that Apollo, and the Spirit, both aren't here. she digs the whole title thing. ] It's a genuine pleasure to meet you, Legolas. Really, I'd be going in for a big hug right now if we were talking in person. [ a beat ] I mean, unless you're not a hugger. I'd be willing to settle for a grateful handshake, too.
