[Voice/Open] 07 Shadows
["Son of a bitch," is pretty much what Nico's thinking at this point. For the moment, he's wedged himself in a safe, shadowed place so that he can get an announcement out. His voice is low, trying not to let any of the natives find out where he is.]
To any Shardbearers on either Court planning on ever visiting Leathann: don't. The Seven-Star Oracle, a very powerful and prominent figure here, was killed and they say it was a Shardbearer who did it. Things are going to Tartarus in a wrapped hand-basket.
[Private: Seelie Marshal Lancelot]
Sir Lancelot, do you have anyone who can meet me at the Northwood Faerie Ring? I'm going to need a few hours of rest before I can get to the White Citadel today, and I'd rather have that rest in safety.

VOICE.
VOICE.
That's all you took from this?
VOICE.
VOICE.
Of course things aren't literally going to the hellish place under the earth. That would be difficult since I don't think Tartarus actually exists here, and I'm glad it doesn't.
VOICE.
voice.
Do they have any evidence?
voice.
I think it's hearsay at this point. It's also entirely possible that they'll blame me specifically for it just on account of the fact that I visited her a week ago. I'm not too willing to find out if they will or not.
voice.
But — that's not fair. [ it's war, and she knows that, but still there are procedures to these things. ] They can't just go around pointing fingers, that won't help anyone!
voice.
You're right, but they're not thinking that way. They want someone to blame, and, right now, they're going to use us as scapegoats. It'll be even worse if it turns out to be true that a Shardbearer did it. Demonstrations may turn into outright riots.
Audio
Any news on the Shardbearer's court, or did you get out of there before anyone could even circulate those rumours?
Audio
No, I got out the moment I heard that a Shardbearer was being blamed. Expect news to get out to the rest of the natives, though. I don't think very many places are going to be safe after this.
no subject
No, and let's be blunt: with advancing armies, the locals are going to have more reason to abhor shardbearers than ever before.
no subject
That's for sure. I'll have to see if I can talk to her spirit when I have a moment to breathe. If not, then...I might have to consult other sources to find the truth.
no subject
Assuming you get the time to tap her spirit, how do you plan on making that information credible? If the antishardbearer sentiment is that strong, you might not be listened to.

I can start looking now. Another option available to you might be to consider making use of the written word. There's a printer in Treun that might be able to distribute any conclusions of your investigation, and a pen name might actually give you some credibility if you use it right.

[There's a small sigh to her voice.]
voice (quietly yells ;w; )
[Nico is more than a little frustrated/exasperated.]
voice (pats Nico gently ;w;)
[Her thick brogue turns a bit on the gentle side.]
voice;
Does this mean you are where I think you are right now?
voice;
...Um...yeah. I'm working on getting out right now. Hard to catch me if I shadow travel to the nearest faerie ring.
voice;
[ not panicking! just. you know. worrying a bit. ]
Just- tell me you have a game plan. Please.
voice | private;
Should be fine for a few minutes.
[He hopes. Nico makes the conversation private so that only Seelies know where he's going.]
Yeah. I'm in shadow right now, so once I've shadow traveled to the faerie ring in the Shipyard, I'll be at the Northwood's ring. I can't leave until I can get someone at that ring to look out for me while I rest for a few hours. After that, I should be at the White Citadel.
voice | private;
voice | private;
I'm looking forward to it. Maybe the two of us should try for a quest next time.
[He's...surprised by how easily that offer comes out. Dang, all that traveling with Reyna and Coach Hedge really has changed him for the better.]
How are you doing over there? I hope you haven't gotten in as much trouble as I have.
voice | private;
No trouble at all, actually. Just a lot of archery training. It's starting to get a little boring over here.
no subject
[and here she had been looking at taking up a station over there to keep herself removed from the conflict.]
We can't let this sit for long.
no subject
[It's a very distressing situation, to be honest.]
We can't, especially since it'll likely snowball from here on.
no subject
We'll have to plan some kind of diplomatic visit to smooth things over. Demonstrations mean that people can be reasoned with. How much time would you say there is before things turn too horrible?
[time enough to plan.]
voice;
[ She's not exactly speaking to him at first judging by the content of her words. No, she's rather odd, thinking out loud without properly addressing the person who made this announcement. ]
I'd hope you have the sense to leave as soon as you can.
voice;
I'll be leaving as soon as I can secure a safe spot to rest after. My way of getting out is fast, but not without its price.
voice;
If not, you should make sure that someone who recognizes you can come look for you after. Just in case.
[ That's all she cares to say on the matter. Showing too much concern for a stranger is probably poor taste all around... ]
audio;
[And furthermore, what the hell does that mean for all of the Shardbearers now?]
audio;
[Bitter? Absolutely not.]
I suspect that maybe my visit with their Oracle a week ago might have given them the idea, but I can't say for sure.

[He can't always control exactly where he is going in this world where he has no inherent compass through knowing where his own territory is, so this is more than just a bit worrying.]
no subject
Some have been lucky to leave before anything bad happened, but it's definitely not safe right now. With luck, it'll be resolved peacefully before anything else happens.
no subject
How do I know if I go there by accident?
[voice]
The warning is appreciated, of course, and extremely vexing, all the same.
[voice]
[Why can't these things be simple for once?]
[voice]
Well, I'll keep an ear out, I suppose. I doubt it's impossible to salvage this situation, but it'll be extremely difficult and rather frustrating.
