[ Lancelot is doing a remarkable impression of someone attempting to look calm and competent. He's getting better at it, although the faint lines of tension and stress are likely visible to anyone looking for them. His surroundings, what can be seen of them, look as if they might be a study of sorts. ]

For those of you I have yet to meet, my name is Lancelot. I hold the rank of Field Marshal here in Caer Glaem. I have no doubt those of you newer to this land have plenty of questions, and if you have patience enough I will do my best to answer them.

As it stands, I have seen plenty of people offering training. I thought it worth emphasising that the training yard here in Caer Glaem is open to anyone of any skill who wishes to either help train another to defend themselves or improve their skill. You may have never held a weapon, may be considered the best in your own land. Either way, I am quite certain you will have something to learn and teach both, and we will find what is best suited.

When all of you were brought here it was because of something inside you, what they call a shard. A chip or piece of a gemstone of great power that found its way to your world. It carries power you can use, and some of us -- myself included -- have been taught how to do such a thing. I will gladly teach anyone who wishes to learn. It is better to be taught than to use it by accident, I think, as such things can be explosive.

Likewise, there is always plenty to be done around Caer Glaem that is not combative. If any of you wish to volunteer your skills, or to be pointed somewhere you might be of use, we will find you something. No skill is useless, no person lacking worth. A city cannot be manned by soldiers alone, it takes more than that to keep it running.

[ ... Is that it? Yes, he thinks he has run out of things to say. Lancelot inclines his head a little, offers a small smile. ]

[Castle nods and listens as Lancelot explains the options. He's really grateful that the man is putting effort into this, though Castle is unsure of how much he wants to commit to one side or the other in this war. At the end of the day, he still feels that it's not his war to fight.

I'm honestly more drawn to the first, as it's similar to the police consultation I was doing at home, though I wouldn't be opposed to the second. I appreciate you putting thought into your suggestions for me. I'll probably have to consider it for a bit though.

Sadly Lancelot is unaware of this. He nods, offers Castle a small smile. ]

The choice is yours in the end, not mine. I will not force you into a thing you have no desire to be a part of. Take as long as you desire to think on it, I am happy to make provisions for you either way. You will not be thrown in without support, I assure you, whatever your choice.

[Castle lives to deal with difficult people. His fiancee was an incredibly difficult person when they met. Of course, Gabranth might be a bit more immune to his charms than Kate was.]

[ Lancelot considers that a moment, drops his eyes and frowns a little -- a touch self-conscious now. ]

When you are sworn into service as a Seelie knight you recite vows. A knight is sworn to valour. My heart knows only virtue. My blade defends the helpless. My might upholds the weak. My word speaks only truth. My wrath undoes the wicked. Those are vows I can live by, yet more than that... the monarchs are good people. Not long after I was here there was a battle near Caer Glaem. Many of the native soldiers fell, and Ridire -- he did not overlook the loss. He told us to take better care of each other, to minimise blood loss. Solais herself has been nothing but kind, she blames herself for our failures, she gives everything she can to keep us safe. I believe in them. Their leaderships, their sentiments, their hearts. They are people I can follow.

[Castle nods as he listens. He understands, though doesn't quite feel the same way that Lancelot does and isn't sure if he'd ever be able to just blindly follow anyone who isn't his family.]

My fiancee back home is a police officer. They take a similar vow.

Morla and the Unseelie are vicious in their tactics. They burn through forests, they try anything underhand to win. Try to scare women into agreeing to marry away their cities for safety. If I am to be on any side of this war I would rather the side that believes in valour and justice. No doubt it would be the same for your companion.

No doubt, yes.

[He pauses, determining how he wants to phrase his next question.]

Have you seen these things that the Unseelie have done with your own eyes?

[Or has he read them in the slightly questionable books in the Seelie library?]

I have. I brought reinforcements to Cothromach to defend it from Morla's troops. Their fires were barely kept in control as they sought to burn through the gates of the Lady Keeper's city. I do not speak of rumour, sir, nor do I act on such a thing. I act on what I myself have experienced. The Seelie are defenders. Morla persists in bringing the battle to our gates time and time again. Eventually we will be forced to act --

[ He knows so, it is already planned. ]

-- but we have been attacked many times before this.

[Castle nods.]

Knights have to do what they feel is right. I understand. And I don't think that your opinion is necessarily wrong. I just think I need more evidence before I decide for myself.
