[ Lancelot is doing a remarkable impression of someone attempting to look calm and competent. He's getting better at it, although the faint lines of tension and stress are likely visible to anyone looking for them. His surroundings, what can be seen of them, look as if they might be a study of sorts. ]

For those of you I have yet to meet, my name is Lancelot. I hold the rank of Field Marshal here in Caer Glaem. I have no doubt those of you newer to this land have plenty of questions, and if you have patience enough I will do my best to answer them.

As it stands, I have seen plenty of people offering training. I thought it worth emphasising that the training yard here in Caer Glaem is open to anyone of any skill who wishes to either help train another to defend themselves or improve their skill. You may have never held a weapon, may be considered the best in your own land. Either way, I am quite certain you will have something to learn and teach both, and we will find what is best suited.

When all of you were brought here it was because of something inside you, what they call a shard. A chip or piece of a gemstone of great power that found its way to your world. It carries power you can use, and some of us -- myself included -- have been taught how to do such a thing. I will gladly teach anyone who wishes to learn. It is better to be taught than to use it by accident, I think, as such things can be explosive.

Likewise, there is always plenty to be done around Caer Glaem that is not combative. If any of you wish to volunteer your skills, or to be pointed somewhere you might be of use, we will find you something. No skill is useless, no person lacking worth. A city cannot be manned by soldiers alone, it takes more than that to keep it running.

[ ... Is that it? Yes, he thinks he has run out of things to say. Lancelot inclines his head a little, offers a small smile. ]

[ here is an oddity. there is always a great amount of time which passes between each meeting of guinevere and lancelot. and while she, herself, feels she is always the same, always guinevere with her fretting and her smiles, lancelot is ever changing. once he is almost awkward looking and she is measuring his arms for an armor, the next, their fingers touch in the dungeon of a terrible place and he is brave and somehow taller and now -- ]

[Nico has pretty much wedged himself in a place in Leathann where he won't be spotted or heard speaking to his locket. It's not perfect, but he's still not comfortable with sharing to these people that he's one of the Shardbearers. At least, no more than Sua.]

I can offer to train people in sword and street fighting, but I don't expect I'll be along for awhile yet. I could do that while you train me in using my shard, if that's alright, sir?

Of course; once you return I would be happy to teach you. The concept itself is not difficult, most find it is the mindset. Then finding someone willing to stand still while you test your strength on them.

I admit, I have never thought what I would ask of an Oracle before. To know one's own future... or what might be... Surely simply in knowing you risk changing your fate, your decisions?

[ considering the war efforts and the fact that his legs are getting the work out of a lifetime, he still has restless energy lingering on his bones. teaching people how to defend themselves has always gotten his adrenaline pumping — and it's something luke misses. ]

I'll trade you. Teach me how to wield a shard and I can at least take a few newbies off your back with swordfighting. I was Head Camp Counsellor of the Hermes cabin back in the good old modern version of your world, and training kids who don't know shit about a sword is what I do best.

Quite literally. The power of these things is strong. I once saw a man who had collected several, and when they overloaded within him they split the ground and made a crater in it.

I cannot say for sure how much damage one alone would do untamed, but seeing as it is within your chest I should think it better not to risk.

So.. do you have any examples of those non-combative things that need to be done?

[Castle knows how to use a sword, and will be training further on it in the coming days (and looking into getting himself a pistol because apparently that is a thing here) but overall he's a lover, not a fighter. If he can hang back and contribute in some other way, Castle is all for that.]

What manner of skill would you say you have? Do not try to give examples you think relevant, list everything you can do. The answer is not always obvious from your own perspective, as skill you may think useless may be essential in a way you never imagined.

Do you know much about these shards? [ Curious ] There are so many rumors that it becomes difficult to know which are true.

I do not wish to embroil myself in a war where I remain skeptical of the cause, particularly not one my lord king wishes against, but if you need folk who might help to train others, I am familiar with both sword and bow.

Any help at all training would be something we are grateful for. I know many have no wish to join a war that is not, as they see it, their own -- but many here have never fought before. If the battle comes to us it is better they have a chance to defend themselves. Forgive me if that is bold, I simply... do not wish to see people cut down when it could be avoided.

As to the shards -- I know some, which is better than none at all, but I am no expert. Forgive me if I cannot answer everything, but I will do my best if you have questions.

[ Lancelot is not entirely sure about this man's tone but you know, it takes all sorts. He carries on gracefully, as if Malcom had asked as politely as humanly possible. ]

I have been told that those not taught to master their shards can activate them without meaning to, suddenly, and the burst of power can be dangerous. I have yet to witness an accidental usage of such a type, but I can say it is so that the shards have enough power to cause damage. Awareness and control of them should help.
