Are the women in this world and your own given as much opportunity to defend themselves as the men?

[ she doesn't wait for any answers, giving a humorless snort of laughter at the locket before continuing. it's not a directly related addition to her question, but it's certainly on the same train of thought: ]

Ridiculous that those already holding power are given the privilege of training to the highest levels of their skills, but those most in need of it are left to rely on the protection of others.

Where I come from, it's not the gender that is judged but race. Qunari, dwarves, elves... are not looked upon the same as a human would be. That is what divides us, back home. How they operate, I can't say with certainty.

[ a nod. ]

I had training from a young age, yes.

Qunari are larger than a human, usually horned. I suppose like with many other things they don't exist in all lands.

[ She wracks her mind, but is quick to come up empty when it comes to it. Aveline shakes her head. ]

No, I can't say that I'd be familiar with such a thing existing... at least by the name. But it sounds as if they're seen similarly as mages, or those with magical talent are in our world.

Not particularly. Mages are feared because without proper training they can fall prey to possession from demons, or turn to blood magic. Most when they show signs of it are taken to what is called The Circle, where Templars - knights who are able to dampen these abilities, try to keep the mages from harming others and themselves.

Those who are never taken or escape are called Apostates. They must hide, because it is against the law for them to be on their own or for others to harbor them.

[ that's only touching the surface, but she doesn't deem it wise to bring up tranquility, and after what happened her beliefs in the system have been a bit. Shaken. ]

Some can go on to become enchanters, or healers - alchemists. There are mages that serve within the Order, and the Imperial Court... but mostly they're not allowed to leave the Cirle, no.
